i hate to comment but have some of you ever heard of a gate? if you want a snare to sound like this with no moongel it needs AGGRESSIVE processing. why would this be faked? why would one of the fastest growing bands still keep a drummer that couldn't play relatively basic (albeit very good) stuff well enough to record a video live? furthermore there's NO REASON to suspect this is fake, there's nothing inhuman happening?!
it could still be fake, but ultimately its a waste of everyone's time to even discuss if it is, go watch some of the 100000 fake metalcore drummers instead
Ask Mr lever himself I'm sure he'd love to podcast with you ! I feel like the snare is just heavily compressed and then augmented with Room samples Or room gate expender trick ...
Noise gates are used in every style of music, in every setting imaginable any time a PA system is used. Stadiums, coffee houses, the seafood shack that has cover bands on weekends... If someone is using a PA, they are using a noise gate. Including every natty reference drummer on the planet.
Nap Voucher 😂 I can't stop laughing at this video. Vessel II is a great drummer, saw Sleep Token live about 3 weeks ago and have seen Vessel II's solo videos on YT. They're amazing to see live, Vessel I is one of my favourite vocalists. I just love them.
I showed the Hypnosis drum video to my drum teacher and he was moved to tears. I don’t think I’ve ever seen the guy as moved as he was that day. Sleep Token is an absurdly talented group.
I love watching videos of this song live because for whatever reason he hits the snare so hard during the ending that you can hear it echo off the walls of the venue and its beautiful.
Commented the same thing on the recent drumeo one. It's so pleasing to see a not gridded video of a metal kind of drummer. This guy sounds so pleasing to listen to. Really kills it live too. Well in lad.
I saw a post on UK Touring FB Page that mentioned how incredible the lighting and audio production was at the O2 arena. So, I started listening to them properly and my goodness these guys are brilliant. Next show in London, IM THERE!!!
George is known for using ridiculously tight gates on his drums. Sleep Token is probably the most drastic example, where Loathe is a bit more laid back. You can hear the same snare sound in Kubrick's songs.
This song is so heavily influenced by the white pony days of deftones. It’s a good thing in my opinion and the snare is totally in the same tone vein as Abe Cunningham.
I asked dw drums, what kind of snare head he does use ( G2 Evans was the answer) the cymbal he uses are worth between 2'500-3000 USD... overall his setup is a high level priced kit but sounds awesome.... this dude was a drum teacher before ;)
@@theopinson3851 Yeah that kid has a great sound but it's mostly triggers. His snare and kick are forsure triggers but not sure about his toms but I would imagine they are.
This is a brady block snare, doesnt need moon jel generally for dampening. The wood itself is extremely hard and were only manufacturerd in Australia (I beleieve this one is made is Jarra block) - theyre incredible drums at a really high cost, worth it for the sound though!
Well that was fun. Hi Craig!! Can you check out the drum playthrough for the song exercises in futility by mgla? Sick cymbal work, not a drummer, but I can tell that much.
I would trade my soul to be in a band with as much mystery, lore and intensity as Sleep Token... I always wonder how they managed to start... Imagine being a local band with complete anonymity... I must have been near impossible unless they started fresh out the gate with some kind of deal... Which I guess helped the rumors that they are well known for other things..
The bassist is from holding absence, I'm pretty sure a member of loathe was something to do with it as well seen as they're signed to the same label / always on similar line ups with holding absence and neither ever clash with sleep token. To me it's safe to say they're a super group.
@@dkorody81 I use the term super group in the context of a band made up by people originally in other bands. Who are they then? I read the singer is some guy called Leo but I'm not sure about the drummer.

If you crank the underhead of the snare you can get rid of a lot of ring, i think it sounds quite legit and on the other hand he could have remove the FQ in the mix.
Maybe so, Though not really confirmed anywhere but Apple Music "credits", Which aren't always a reliable source. Nonetheless III and IV are phenomenal musicians. If they're not involved in writing for ST maybe they write for other things.
Since you brought it to our attention, on the shots looking down there's only one moongel on the 10inch, instead of the four we see from the throne. Anyone else catch that?
Want a super dry snare with no moon gels or o rings? Put very thin cheese cloth(or any very thin fabric. Gauze, thin silk w/e) on the bearing edge before you put your main batter head on. Pull the cloth tight right before the head gets too tight to move the cloth. After that? Tune as usual. Dryest snare you will ever hear.. Won't noticeably change tone or tuning. I personally prefer covering the entire diameter. But you can use narrower strips if it's too dry. I have one snare with batter and reso head covered, one with just batter and one with a 6" wide cloth strip on the batter side.
Right?! Dude talks too much….too caught up in stuff that doesn’t matter to enjoy that masterpiece. Was he still saying stupid shit at the end? Bet he was, couldn’t make it that far.
Well so called Renlord- this is clearly you in a mask going for a double nomination bid. Cool idea and means we dont have to see your gurning. Double opportunities for sponsorship too.
From the looks of the thing (and sound) it must have a ton of built in dampening. Pretty sure that’s the deal with the inner ring but I haven’t seen that head before. Kind of like a Powerstroke.

That snare rips. I've heard this band in random playlists, but it's cool to hear a really solid drummer is underneath all of that.
Snare sounds like thousands of other snares before it. You just started listening to music yesterday, yeah?
@@heavyswing a few examples? Genuinely curious.
His snare drums make me think he was heavily influenced by Abe Cunningham from Deftones. Which is amazing.
Same thought
The whole band has a Deftones vibe if taken to some sort of pop/djent extreme.
The opening to their song “Gods” is 100% inspired by “Goon Squad”
100%, this band has a lot of Deftones and Muse throughout
He confirmed this in the drumeo vid today - great pull!

I saw them live last year, I'm pretty sure the sound guy cranks the snare and adds reverb for the ending. Makes it sound huge!
They’re called snare bombs. They use effects for specific snare hits particularly in breakdowns and whatnot
