This past Monday: wife sez, "We're taking the Dodge? It's kinda far." I say, "Sure, why not?" She sez, "I was just thinking about comfort." On the way home, she's got her head in my lap and she's alsleep on that great big bench seat (1965 Dodge Custom 880 wagon)!
Great story!!! Driving through town last week. Young man with his girlfriend setting next to him in a 70s pickup in front of me. From the stop sign, i noticed him moving a shifter up and down on the steering column. For a moment, i was 16 again with my girlfriend in my 1970 torino with a three on the tree. Maybe there's hope?
@shakin-it-boss this song was a thing on a cassette to 8-track adapter in 97 driving in my $300 1970 Dodge Dart with a 3spd and bench seat. I turned 18 that summer.
I remember hearing this in middle school back in the mid/late 90s at a party. It was noisy and I thought he was saying “I need you, here with me, not way over the fuckin sea.” I still laugh about this when I hear it now.
"Stick Shifts And Safety Belts" Well, stickshifts and safetybelts, Bucket seats have all got to go. When we're driving in the car, It makes my baby seem so far. I need you here with me, Not way over in a bucket seat. I need you to be here with me, Not way over in a bucket seat. But when we're driving in my Malibu, It's easy to get right next to you. I say, "Baby, scoot over, please." And then she's right there next to me. Well a lot of good cars are Japanese. But when we're driving far, I need my baby next to me.
In the 80s trucks were the only thing left with a bench seat. You would see guys cruising with their girl next to them in the middle. I hope some country artist redoes this song and makes Cake some money because this song so perfectly captures this slice of American culture.
Underrated masterpiece.
I'm 13 and have a super cool dad and he told me to get this cd last year, just started listening to it. Thanks dad.

Favorite song of forever. When ever I hear the question of what song could you listen to for the rest of your life.... This one.
I sang this song to my daughter as a lullaby. She is 17 & still loves Cake. It’s one of her favorite songs.

That’s fantastic
😂😂😂 it does sound like that
As they used to say -- If you're going to sit way over there on the passenger side, at least clean the car-door windows!
Anything new on the works?
You guys were your own genre of music.

Thank you Paul from Fabrats for mentioning this song, I dig it!
Same Paul. But I thought I would have heard it before. Nope
This song reminds me of, "Hot Rod Lincoln" is a song by American singer-songwriter Charlie Ryan, first released in 1955.
Those telephone poles look like a picket fence! 😁
To me this is the apex of rock n roll. I love it.
Go play Valorant 😎😎😎
3 weeks? I share your music so often. The sultry voice with the instrumental, rhyme, and rhythm make every cake song amazing.
Best band ever

Old but gold
The 90’s isn’t that old. But agreed, old music is the best.

Does anyone knows songs that are similar to this one singing wise?
Cake Love

Wish it was longer... It feels a bit unfinished to me. Which is a shame cause I like the sound.
CAKE!!!!!!! 👏👏👏🤣🤣🤣
A 3 on the tree, no seatbelts and a big bench seat….they don’t build them like that anymore.

I would bet my life savings that not even 5% of today's new age radioplay guitarists could play this song.
It’s not that hard
