I have only seen Cake twice. First time was in 2004 at a festival (long after they made it big).
Last year I moved to Sacramento, and I found out that Cake is from Sac Town. I was amp’d because they will probably play here when if/when they start another tour. 🤞

I'm new to CAKE so I can't weigh in productively. But I can relate, it kinda sucks liking psychedelic non mainstream bands in term of reality perception. Whether you were just high and imagined it or the version you heard isn't locatable anymore, the struggle is real.

I'm kinda bummed that this shorter version is now the current "album version." I lost my original CD (that had the longer cut), so I bought a new CD. It has this version now. Plus, a couple of other songs were changed a bit. I'm OK with making changes, but label it as such, please. Where can I get the original?

The lyrics are based on a passage in the New Testament of The Bible: Gospel of Matthew chapter 25. In this passage, a shepherd divides his sheep and goats, with the sheep going to heaven and the goats to hell. Because goats have cloven feet, they were considered unclean.

@@garrettgodfrey4679 It was from a parable that Jesus told in the Gospels using sheep as a metaphor for Christians, and goats representing the lost. In the Old Testament, both animals were used for various sacrifices, but sheep were specifically used for temporarily covering one's sins. Jesus was the "Lamb of God," the final sacrifice that would permanently cover the sins of those who repented and accepted the payment on their behalf. Not that I think Cake were necessarily Christian believers. From the lyrics of some of their songs, they seem more like religious sceptics.
