I heard a comment relating to a sweet story on another video with this song about how this lady had bought this CD in the 90’s, and then when she played it in the car with her dad riding along with her. Suddenly when this song comes on, her dad gets this look of surprise and joy on his face, and then he says, “hey! I know this song!” And then he started to sing along perfectly in tune and in sync in Spanish, with him giving the songwriters positive notes on how they were able to translate the song so well from Spanish to English. The lady loved her dad and since he passed a few years ago, she wasn’t able to start playing this song without thinking of him.

Of note: Doris Day wasn't the first to do an English language version of the song. That was Desi Arnaz in 1948. The Spanish original by Bobby Capo was a year earlier.

I never realized the brass are doing a "call and response" thing to the vocals. Even Doris Day's version uses this concept (ish). It's better in Spanish/Latin though. Cake does respect the Latin vibe and this trumpet recording on an AAD CD is still sexy to this day. Probably for a long time too. Trumpet, Sad Songs, and the majority of Waltzes aren't selling this year.

Anyone who loves this track should check out Don’t Throw Stones by Prince Buster. Definitely taking some inspiration with the lyrics and especially the horn solo.
Perhaps is a well known song and covered by many. Originally a Cuban song called Quizas and written by Osvaldo Farres and was first a hit for Bobby Capo in 1947. But there are some great covers of this song out there, including CAKE's.
