I'm so grateful to by ex wife for turning me on to this incredible band! I'm especially grateful to her for taking me to their concerts in LA and Seattle! The funk is so alive with them! Now I'm saving all that lovin'for someone who loves me! I will survive!!! Love the bass player especially! And you've got to love the horns in Cake too!
This rendition is absolutely perfect. All the musicians are marvelous. The drums, the bass line, the guitar are at their peak. When the trumpet enters "into the room" is magic and always makes me cry. But nothing is better than the voice and the acoustic guitar of the vocalist. His interpretation is like a actor in a theater play. He btings a whole new dimension to the kyrics that I admit never realized, although I've always known this music, with the gerat Gloria Gaynor. I just heard this on the radio today maybe for the first time or maybe a few times in the past. The radio playing the good old hits of the 90s and early 2000s. This is the best version of I Will Survive for me feels like I can really relate.

Cake is probably my most favorite band. I've memorized almost all the lyrics of their entire discography. Cake is truly one of those timeless bands that will never fit into any era.
You're right about the timelessness. This band could have easily hit the scene in 1969 and they would certainly not have sounded out of place then. I'm reminded of War a lot with the eclectic blend of everything from mariachi to old school country, rockabilly, soul, funk and obviously given their era, alternative rock. Their music still sounds fresh today. Great band. Got to see them once in Del Mar years ago. Was not disappointed.
