Some of the best bass and drum work in the rock world. It amazes me that when people talk about great bass performances, Cake is so rarely on the list. They should have a dozen songs on the list.
If they are in time here, then they are not in time on the album version because it is clearly different. Unless of course, any old way he decides to do it is in time. I guess it's his song and he can say how it goes.@@sailorman8668
This song has a very special place in my heart because of Chuck. One of my favorite shows of all time and this as the theme song really completed the show.
I love these guys. Their music is so much fun and unique. I love their deliberate chonk, tushy-cushed with heavy base. BTW- I wear a short skirt and jacket. :)
I love this album. It came out at a great time in my life, and all these songs bring back good memories of the friends I had and our adventures together. You're Never There reminds me of this tune, and The Distance is also great. Many more.
Ultra funky! I've always dug Cake's music. Guitar Center Sessions has put on a lot of bands that I wouldn't normally see & they've done a damn good job!
God bless Guitar Center for letting these 90's bands play again..I still remember my high school and college days..the 90's were the best years of music!
When I was kid I did this guitar hero live thing and we were gonna play comfort eagle then they changed it last second and played a Michael Jackson song we later went to one of their concerts and my dad emailed the trumpet player asking if they can play comfort eagle first because of what happened and they opened with that song without my knowledge during the song my dad leaned in and said “i requested that song for you buddy” by far the best concert I’ve been too not including how amusing the singer is
Just saw these guys a couple months ago... if you're wondering... yes... absolutely... this performance is simply a microcosm for their entire set. It is weird, and amazing with fantastic crowd engagement... if you have the chance... go see them.
Awesome stuff - my own Cake discovery was while on a business trip to Colorado Springs. Staying at the Antlers, I took a walk and found Cake playing, I think, at Brooklyn's, either 1996 or 1997. I was hooked from the start.
If you had a chance to see cake play shows in the mid to late 90s and early 2000s you know how everyone feels about this band. They were everybody's band they were such a good time you could be in the Ska, Punk, Metal or jam band stuff and it didn't matter... cake was transcendent
"your seat is valuable.wtf" ha lol. went to a concert ones and the opening band ask the audience to sing along and he pointed the mic to the audience and it was just silence, he just walks out of the stage. lol best concert memory yet.
lol i love how around 3 minutes in, he had to get the people to sing the "nana" part by convincing them they had to fly their way over there to perform XD
That wasn't a "Cowbell" that was Louis's #$%&. Just Kidding. I thought the band was tight, song was great man, although He showed he can't retire as a kids music instructor. The audience sounded like a ship of drunkin sailors. Fun ! and a thumbs up..
The makers of Vibra Slaps should send these guys Christmas cards. From 1:15 to about 1:28 does it sound like it is quoting Sweet Jane? Very cool what ever it is.
The rhythm section of this band is rock solid

Just 1
definitely! I'm still partial to the back up vocal execution. Hey! - Oh! - NaNaNaNaNaNa
Every single member of this band is absolutely killing it here!
Todo en su lugar
Except for the singer...
The vocals are not in time
@@waltergoring8428 The vocals are in perfect 'time' - clearly, you don't know this song and the way it's constructed.

That drummer is rock solid.
DeadlyApples666 that's what I said! There is nobody who agrees but you apparently.
@@zacharywilliams2 Rock solid!
With you on that
Yeah for sure!
Uh,,,the rhythm section (bass and drums) is,,,complete.
Just saw these dudes live a few nights ago. Can't stop listening to them. Such a great band in every way.
The guitarist is completely underrated that dude tears it up.
The bassist is the star of this band, oh yeah....
+John Jareo Yeah. Pretty much.
It's really the trumpet, that's what sets them apart
+eh. I thought it was the hat
John Jareo Each member has their own unique style, thus the band has its own unique style, nobody sounds like Cake!
John Jareo he’s actually my uncle Gabe Nelson 💯✌️
This song has a very special place in my heart because of Chuck. One of my favorite shows of all time and this as the theme song really completed the show.
Very warm feelings of fun, action and great characters whenever this plays on my favourite online radio channel... CHUCK RULED!!!
I always liked this song. I loved watching Chuck. Jeffrey and Lester were so funny
One of my favorite baseline driven songs of the 90s,...
It came out in 2001
Bassline. It is good. Trying to learn it. 😢😂❤
Love the 🎺 trumpet! Whole band is fantastic
Most underrated band, there is nothing they are missing...
here’s what they’re sorely lacking: humility
@@jasonjon im curious. why do you say that?
@@jeewizzlers Because Jason's the MOST humble. Way more humble than Cake. And, clearly, he has far less reason to be humble than Cake.
@@TheSkinnychef1620 lol I'm just asking. I love cake but when I listen to interviews of John McCrea I get the impression that he's kind of a douche

Do you have a Chrysler LeBaron?
Love these guys in 2023
"deliberate chonk, tushy-cushed with heavy base" is absolute poetry. I think I'm love!
The Vibra Slap!!! Gotta love it!!!
This is a brilliant tune. Never heard of CAKE before. The guitar rift is brilliant
Check out there Cover of Black Sabbath " WAR PIGS "
How is that possible? All over everything....howevee this is he worst version i have heard. See some live versions or the video which is hysterical
I saw them in El Paso and the crowd and band were so bad ass that it was the coolest concert I've been to.
Live the way those drums sound. Perfect tuning for the song.
Does every band raise their game for guitar center or do they just have the best engineers. The tones and levels are awesome
Most of it is recorded in a studio afterwards. Sorry to destroy your illusions.
These guys are tight. Love em and I'm 64 and a classic rock guy.
Still not tired of this song even after watching Chuck tv show 10 times over and never skipping the intro ...ever
Love all the horns Cake puts in their songs!
This song always puts me in a good mood!
I love this album. It came out at a great time in my life, and all these songs bring back good memories of the friends I had and our adventures together. You're Never There reminds me of this tune, and The Distance is also great. Many more.
My takeaway from this performance is that studio audience seats are valuable and one must automatically sing crowd parts without much encouragement.
This is true.
The guys in the band would know just how valuable because they toured the facilities.
Lol

So many layers to this song.
Yes I have special feelings because of Chuck, but this song is freaking tight anyway!!

Lisa Hollingsworth nice production on all their shows.

Great band - and the drummer has especially amazing technique.
the bass is fucking ripping nice .
Their rhythm section is tight as hell.
Video quality is stunning. Especially for when it was originally filmed.
I don't think there were dinosaurs roaming the Earth in 2011 😄 They had HD back then.
So very little music today really comes from the HEART. This song totally DOES
I am a retired mortician/embalmer, played this for a funeral of a really awesome deceased. 👍
I bet he deceased was fast, and thorough, and sharp as a tack
This is one of those songs where each instrument and sound flows perfectly together . Awesome ! Such a jam!
i am completely entertained by this 'gig',,,, this band....anything....and all that they do !
I'm glad to have seen them twice live. They will be my favorite band from the 90's to 2023.
Love that bass line!
"With fingernails that shine like justice; and a voice that's dark like tinted glass..."
One of the best lines in music
That drummer is tight! He puts the whole thing together!
Never realized how integral the vibroslap is to this song.
You are the first person I have seen here to have noticed vibroslap...and said something correct. Thanks

Professional musicians flown in on jets from far away.
hahahaha right on, nailed it ...... such damn perfect musicians with fresh ideas / melodies / tempos
Maybe one of the most Gen X statements ever made
