This song has a deeply cherished and personal meaning to me. This was sublimely beautiful, and I thank you sincerely for choosing to add this song to your body of masterpieces.
So soothing. I remember this song during one of my traineeship octet exams for my choir. We had a crazy arrangement of this song that made us tremble during the exam. Listening to it now and I am just loving it. ❤❤❤
Not the version I’m used to but superbly done! I grew up listening to Manhattan Transfer’s version way back in the 80’s when I attended a Jazz College in my early 20’s. What fun that was...
I was privileged to hear the Manhattan Transfer perform it live at the National Arts Centre opera in Ottawa. During the performance you could have heard a pin drop, and then a burst of applause. This VOCES8 rendition rates up there with them.
Absolutely sublime. A fan of Manhattan Transfer, this exceeded their performance in every aspect. Puerling Perfection! Blew me away. Thank you so much.
Gorgeous, but I wonder if V8 listened to the Manhattan Transfer rendition of this classic, particularly the resolution of all voices to the final harmonic chord. Unsurpassed, to this listener.
It's a Voices8 arrangement and perfectly done for that. Its a minor rearrangement of Manhatten Transfer's arrangement, and i personally perfer their clarity. Otoh, this has been coverd by absolutely everyone. Vera Lynn's original 1940 version is hard to top, i love Mel Torme's take, and there are dozens of others, but for acapella SATB arrangement, I'll go with MT.
‘Minor’ rearrangement? I think it’s been altered a bit more than that Rick...but VOCES8’s version is definitely cleaner for sure 😊, a true professional rendition.
@@teunis37 "cleaner for sure" - I agree this is a totally different arrangement that TMT's Grammy Award winning arrangement but are you serious about this being "cleaner"?? Hmm... not sure I understand your take, there.
Love this group. I like to think that the tall soprano and the tenor with the beard have kids. The male and female mezzos work well because he's an alpha and she's submissive. The cute blond soprano is into large animals. Has one at her way to small place. Maybe I'm getting her mixed up with the mezzo. The other three guys are enjoying the gay life in London except for one who has several children with several women and is living a very complicated life. I listen every night. I'm far away and greatfull.
The most beautiful rendition of this song I’ve ever heard
It is unfortunately so rare to hear the lead-in verse. Glad they included it.
I want to sing in a group this good some day.
The Voces8 version is, for me, unquestionablly the best slow tempo version of this amazing song. Ever.
You finally got to me, I'm crying now. Such beauty to behold.
Magnifique, every time I listen to it!
I sang this at my audition at the Blackheath Conservatoire of Music and Arts. I was accepted !
oooh! Pure tone, perfect harmony, intense dynamics.Chill running up my spine in the final phrase and measure.
Simply gorgeous
This is freakin' amazing...their harmonies, and just that overall sound....DAMN...LOVE it...
Uniformly excellent.

I do love TMT's recording. The arranger won a grammy for that one.
Remove humanization of beautiful voices, amazing!!!!!
Lovely.

This group might sound more musical if the echo was cut way down--they may need to do it in a studio!

Hmm... not sure I understand your take, there.
that Eb at the end though
not really live, made in studio?
This was recorded last year. 🙂
Seems to be studio recorded. No mic pickups visible, and acoustics don’t match an outdoor venue
Sounds like an echoy courtyard space to me. Otoh, i cant see how they were miked.
Oof dah
