This was a performance with the Boston Pops. Sadly, I think the nightingales are shedding a tear tonight. Farewell Tim and thank you for all the you gave us.
This piece separates the heavy hitters from the rest of us, the merely mortal. If these four had to work at it, just about everybody else would likely exercise the better part of valor before trotting it out onstage. Much easier to listen to than to perform! RIP, Mr. Hauser. You are missed. To the surviving Transfer members, you are cherished more than you can know. Peace and Long Life to you all.
In the 80s, I saw MT perform at Radio City, and they did this as an encore. Everyone who was leaving stopped in the aisles and turned around to listen, their faces glowing with appreciation.
I tried singing the bass part in college with three of my friends... it was fun to learn, but so difficult to perform! Manhattan Transfer = World Class A Cappella
@@scotservs I was a professional Christian singer for 8 years with a Gospel Group called Heritage Singers. So yes, I can tell little flaws that maybe you might not catch. We use do do acapella songs, and would have vocal trax underneath our live singing... So I know it's really hard to do acapella. They are so amazing!
I don't think those were flaws as much as artistic decisions and differing tastes. Or as the French would call, it's the esprit of the day that caused them to deviate from the original arrangement 😉 I have a master's degree in opera. In case someone comes along and ask about my qualification.
This is a difficult arrangement sung by an exceptional professional quartet. How they pulled it off is a testament to their skill. But the arrangement was overly tough - asking the quartet to overcome unusual chords. For comparison sake, listen to a really good amateur barbershop quartet sing the same song, but with a difficult, but more pleasing to the ear, arrangement. You’ll find it on RUclips under the quartet’s name, ‘Midnight Croon.’
Memang penontonnya punya attitude semua. Too bad jaman sekarang mainstream nya disini reality show cari bakat yg jurinya malah main cela2an.
Am I mistaken or did they mess up at 1:50? It seems that way....I've sang this song many times and NOBODY will ever do it better than MT, but I'm 99% sure something went wrong there. There are two variants of that part of the song and it seems half the group did one and half the other...
Here they were really young, I think late '70s or early' 80s. But who is she (at 1:23) ? I'll be wrong, but it doesn't seem like Laurel Massè or Cheryl Bentyne
This has to be, without a doubt, one of the finest examples of A cappella in existence today.
The only music group to have appeared on Billboard Magazine's Pop, Rock, Jazz, Gospel, and Disco charts.
WOW. I didn't know that!!
MANHATTAN TRANSFER defines what GREAT MUSIC is all about...their PURE SOUND will be "imortalize"for the nxt 100 years and beyond...
You will never find a better verson of this song... ever.
Nor will you hear it in their 50th Anniversary Tour.
Heard before a cassette. Same but different. Like it much more than this@@peterkiviat9969
This is truly beautiful lovely... Can you believe I'm really listening to this going to sleep 💙😊😴

Legend, just pure legend.

Most beautifully sung!
Manhattan Transfer forever!!!!
"The moon that lingered over London town, poor puzzled moon he wore a frown" ❤
Stunning. Just stunning.
When they break out into four parts on the word “magic” is indeed very magical.
You'll be missed, Tim Hauser. Godspeed. Heaven will be filled with your beautiful voice evermore.
a very remarkable rendition of a wonderful song, I never tire of listening to this
A Best Arrangement Grammy for Gene Puerling!
Gene Puerling was a genius.
@@bebopj and I‘m a huge fan of the „ Singers Unlimited“♥️
This is such a beautiful rendition! And those exotic harmonies, goodness me, great. Just great.
I love these guys performance. I saw them 4 times at the Hollywood Bowl. Now I love Pentatonix.
I can't make you understand how much they influenced all young jazz singers in the 80s. They broke the Top 20 with The Boy From New York City.
I love them!!! This is their crowning achievement, as far as I am concerned. Brilliance!!

music like this feels like sitting on a sofa eating the most delicious cake and having someone u love put their arm around you

Just got the chills!
Sensacional, Esplêndido, Nota 10 com louvor, Maravilhoso.
So much soul in it!!!
Beautifully done. The dress is tasteful. The harmony and melody is lovely.
great music....thank you manhattan transfer
no one even coughed - a captivating performance
Wish we had a group like that today.
They are celebrating their 50th anniversary and still performing. Just bought tix to see them!
Beautiful!
Their 'Down South Camp Meeting' is also remarkable...but that just goes with the territory!
Exquisite 👏
They are singing "live", which many do not. They are pretty darn amazing!! Flaws here and there.. but they are seriously talented!!
Just curious how do you know there are flaws are you a teacher or your professional singer because most mere mortals don’t know of any flaws in that

The tall Babe just does things to me....... And I've been around since Vera Lynn sang this song....
You are missed Tim...

where was this performed? my favorite. thanks
❤️ 😍 💖
Folks, we'll not hear the likes of this-------------ever, again.
I agree
Wow.......unquestionable pedigree

Isn't it at 2:14 ? That's where I heard something.
@@alexisgs8800 Nope, that part was correct.
Is the humming "London By Night"? It sounds like it
Yessir.
How is it that is spelled Berkeley but everyone sings it Barkley?
Because that's how it is pronounced here in Blighty!
Here they were really young, I think late '70s or early' 80s. But who is she (at 1:23) ? I'll be wrong, but it doesn't seem like Laurel Massè or Cheryl Bentyne
Yes, that is Cheryl
YES, this is Cheryl Bentyne
Like a barbershop quartet... About three minutes is all I can take of this crap.
Dreadful.! Over elaborate and " jazzed up " out of recognition..!!
Try Mel Torme version for how it SHOULD be done !!
