FOR THOSE WHO CANT FIND THE TITLES FODLER:
1st find final cut in applications
-right-click on icon and select "show package contents"
-open contents folder
-open plugins folder
-open MediaProviders folder
-open MotionEffect.fxp
-open Contents folder
-open Resources folder
-open templates folder
- Then select Titles (This applies to Transitions, ETC as well)
Next
- Open download folder
- YOU MUST click on the zip of the plugin to open it and it will duplicate the folder 'eg.motion blur 2'
- right click this new folder and copy
- Go back to original finder tab
-Copy the Adjustments Folder
- Paste the folder into Titles folder (or folder of choice)
Next
- Re open Final Cut and you should find the folder name 'Base Correction & Look Grade' in the titles folder on the left hand side
Hi,
I've just paid for this plugin and its still showing missing titles.
I've tried both methods - the movies route and the fcpx contents route.
I can see the Adjustment folder in my titles but when I add it to the timeline it just has the missing titles warning.
dude thank you so much. I appreciate you for this
Thank you so much dude!
@ yessir!
Thank you!
i dont generally comment
THE BEST COLOR GRADING TUTORIAL FOR BEGINNERS. PERIOD.
THANK YOU.
Can anyone HELP ! I have to use regular paint as blood, so i need to color correct only this "paint", so do i use a darker or lighter colore? Wich one is easer to color correct? (or do i use a green screen/blue screen colore instead ?)
Yeah this was a big help
same here! Amazing tutorial
100% agree.
couldn't agree more!
I know it's 3 years later but you're still helping people with this content. Thanks so much :-)
No joke. This is probably one of the most well explained, easiest to understand videos regarding color grading. Thank you for this gold my friend
SO helpful, informative, yet easy to understand! Found out I've been doing it all wrong all along and this organizes it much better.
THANK. YOU. This is the MOST educational, MOST efficient, and MOST easy-to-understand color grading tutorial in ALL of youtube, and I've been searching for a good one for wayyyyyyyy too long. Thank you soooooooo much you legend!!!!!!!
Two years later, this is still one of the best starter guides for color grading in FCPX. Thanks for sharing!
5 years later and you are still helping people w this video! THANK YOU, this was amazing. V well explained
oh my god I finally understood how to color grade in final cut!! thank you so much
As the saying goes, "Not all heroes wear capes". Thanks for this, you're time invested in creating these videos are making a huge impact for all of us here.
3 years later, this tutorial helped me a lot. Thank you.
Whenever it came to color grading, all I did was playing around with obvious adjustments on color board and going berserk with LUTs.
Thanks for this great explanation. I think I have learnt something valuable today!!
I honestly use video to help colour correct my music videos when I edit every 2 weeks, this is the most helpful video on the internet for getting your videos looking amazing!
Huge Love Dan !
thank you for the FIRST final cut color grading tutorial i’ve watched that doesn’t immediately link me to LUTs
Note: if you have a fresh install of FCPX and you don't have anything in your Motion Templates folder, make sure to add the Titles folder. After adding the Titles folder, select it, press cmd + I, and under Name & Extension tab, make sure to add .localized to the folder name, so it becomes Titles.localized, it will hide the .localized part when not in Get Info tab. Make sure to restart FCPX after having copied the Adjustment folder into the freshly created Titles folder. This way, your FCPX will recognise the folder for sure. :)
Thank you so much. This is where I was stuck and your instructions were the answer. I appreciate it.
This was one of the best little videos with tips I have seen in a long time. I have been exploring LUT and grading and shooting in Slog2 with a Sony FS700 in both 4k and 1080p and I found your tutorial very helpful. My wife is now learning to edit and I will pass this along to her as well. You make it easy to undetsand , there is a sound logic to your process here and beautiful examples of what the out come is. I am a Video Professional with 27 years exerience and I think this was smashing.
Omg I found your channel today and I'm so happyyyyy because i'm not a pro as you. I really like to watch all of your videos because you explain it so easy love it!
I usually catch onto editing tricks and tutorials pretty quickly, but color grading has always confused me and seemed too complicated to teach myself, but this was SO HELPFUL and such a great first step for me to take in learning how to color grade
Thank you for sharing your workflow!
I learned a lot by trying to apply it to my own project. Few thoughts on that:
The idea of splitting correction adjustments for each clip and then adding a global style is very effective. The routine of watching for the lumina waveform and making the base adjustment step by step is really useful.
What didn't worked for me though is having a layer (title) for each of the base adjustment because it got unhandy when dealing with transitions between the clips. Also my projects usually are made up of multi camera clips and switching between those cameras means I will end up having to do the same base adjustment to the same camera-clip on multiple points in the timeline.
What I will try out next time: Applying the base adjustments directly on the raw clips within the multi cam clip, then adding a new correction on each cut if needed (when lights in the scene changed) and then adding your style layer (title) to this corrected timeline and make a globale style adjustment to that. Maybe this works better for me. :)
Dude, I've been following for a while now. I don't ever really comment but I just got final cut pro, And by far I don't even need LUTs with this tutorial. As far as color grading, you're the goat with this tutorial. This is hands down THE BEST color grading tutorial. You could actually charge for this. With these small tweaks I just did my first one on one of my kids vlogs and This is the way from now on I color grade. THANK YOU GENUINELY from all of us. Youre sick man. And bananas with the broll too!!!
hello, love this video, just one question, when are there alternative ways to get the folders into final cut considering when I type in 'movies' nothing appears to drag to folders into...?
Need help on this as well!
@@jackie.mendoza Same. nothing appears for me
Thank you so much for this video! I've been a RUclipsr for 4 years (on a different channel than this account), and the whole time I've been scared to death of color correction, because every time I mess around with the color board in FCP X, I just seem to make things look worse. But I just went and played around with your method, using some clips from a previous project, and WOW, the difference is stunning.
I like your style, man: direct, thorough, articulate but not pretentious. I'll definitely be watching more of your videos for further tips.
Great tutorial, thanks! This is what my vids are lacking.
This is one of the most concise videos on color grading within Fcpx I’ve seen. Well done, sir!
I always like your tutorials but this one is great for getting that cinematic look without plugins and pretty much no cost.
I'm looking forward for the color finale tutorial as I just bought it
Hi Daniel! Ottawa here :)
Oh man! I just learned in 10 minutes what I’ve been struggling to “comprehend” for so long. So simple and clear! Thanks a lot! I’m in the process of filming my first feature-length doc for non-profit charity. Everything is self-funded. And badly needed this knowledge to have some decent look to my footage! Much appreciated!
You NAILED it!
Hey man I just came across your channel and this was actually the best one I’ve seen for color grading for beginners like me. You explained the saturation stuff really well. I always had problems understanding it from other places where they seemed to be geared toward people who understood colors better
Buddy that was just superb and really useful for me ... Thankyou so much
Love when I run into a youtuber that gets it
You are not only one of the best RUclipsrs, you are a great teacher and you are super helpful. You actually teach us things we not only need but in such an efficient and thorough way. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
Great tutorial! Very helpful and easy to understand!
I can't believe you squeezed all that info into 10 minutes. You're a true pro. Thank you for doing this.
Really good tutorial, this helped me a lot! Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed!
This video was posted a while ago but is STILL SO HELPFUL I had no idea how to color grade until I watched this!!
Very very helpful, man!
This is actually my first ever comment. Your video was helpful in ways for a beginner like me can easily understand.
This was one of the best tutorials I've seen. Short and easy to learn. Thank you! Quick question out there I downloaded the ZIP files but I don't have titles inside my motion templates folder, actually I don't have any folder inside my motion templates folder. How could I add this titles? Thanks!
Diego Asunsolo same issues :(
This is the best video on color grading in FCPX! I feel confident after watching this
I accidentally just watched a ten minute ad about color grading beacsuse I thought it was the video
One of the best Final Cut Pro tutorials on RUclips. 👌
hey D, great tutorial and a lot of help. just used your tecnique on my latest video, b-roll of the city of bern. my question, since your video is over 2 years old, do you still do it like this or have you found a new way to colorgrade? if so, can you make a new/updated tutorial? anyway, your channel is great and i like your style! peace
Exactly the help I needed. I'm not a filmmaker, but I need to make a short film for my video game. I knew I would have to color grade it, but I'm a total noob to Final Cut Pro X. Thanks for going thru and explaining exactly why you were doing what you were doing and showing how to do it...great job!
Amazing, thank you so much! SUBSCRIBED!
i love you for the amount of value you bring to us. thank you. hope you are doing well!
When I go into motion templates, there is no titles folder
Can someone tell me why I don't see titles folder?
@@uniqueleo5593 I dont see the folder either....I tried to search the mac as well :/
You can add a titles folder there and include the titles.
You need to create a new folder called "Titles". Double click on it and select Get Info.
In name & extension, you will need to write: Titles.localized
You can do the same with Effects and Transitions. Create the folders and add .localized in the name&extension.
Hope it helps!
just make it just make sure that localized stuff
@@tricksandtrips thank you!
the curious thing is that I've intuitively (without tutorials) taught myself how to colour grade and when stumbled upon the teal/orange effect, I started using it in my projects. Your video mentioned teal/orange as being commonly used in film and it gave me a confidence boost that I've always been intuitively on the right track. :)
DUDE YOU ARE A FUCKINGGGGGGG WIZARD!!!
:D
Yer a Wizard Harry! Side note good stuff thanks
Man, you’ve changed my world! Thanks so much!
Hope your luck in life will be as big as your generosity! All the best!
my motion template folder is empty. i tried creating folder named accordingly but didn't work.
Same problem.
I have the same issue
First create a folder under the given name
then click on get info of that created folder
then add ".localized " in name and extension
it worked for me!!
you're a genius thanks!
This helped us THANK YOU
This tutorial is fantastic! I’m working on a big personal project and was fumbling my way through the colour grading process but now I have a methodical approach to guide me through! Thank you!
When i drag the base correction layer over my clip the screen goes red with a big T and a triangle with an exclamation mark in it. Why is that. I really wanted to use this knowledge
Same did you ever figure it out?
@@baraa712 It seems you need to update FCPX.
Thank you so much! Best color grading tutorial EVER! So fast and intense! No "uh... uhm" and no long intro on how to import! THANK YOU!
installed the adjustments and put it in motion templates folder then pasted it on title'f folder. nothing happened.
it shoult appear under titles when you open final cut
mine appeared under "custom" instead
I don't have any files under motion templates
how did you install the adjustments like how did you download the two colors I cant find a link it just takes me to a shop
THIS SERIOUSLY HELPED ME SO MUCH! I used to just slap on LUTS and I doesn’t really work! Using your method makes me see how trash the coloring of my videos were until this! Thank you so much for this! I know you made this 3 years ago but it’s still relevant in 2020 and I’d love for you to make an updated full advance video on color grading without plugins
the layers aren't working, when i drag it on top of my clip its just a red screen with a "T" and "!"
Me too! I also had to drag in the folders using the "Show package contents" way mentioned in the comments, finally got it to appear within final cut but cannot use the plug in due to the red "T!" screen. :( Daniel please help x
same here . Any luck with solving this issue?
I had the same error, i found an older adjustment layer here and seems to work
forums.creativecow.net/docs/forums/post.php?forumid=344&postid=1346&univpostid=1346&pview=t
Thankyou Kevin, I tried this adjustment layer although still am having the same issue. Im using FCPX version 10.1.4 and suspect the problem is due to me needing an update?
To everyone having this issue, I believe the problem lies within what version of final cut you are using. I am pretty sure that Adjustment layers only became possible in Final Cut beginning with version 10.3. I recommend updating to the most recent version. Please let me know if you are still having problems on version 10.3!
5 years later and still a great tutorial. I learnt more about the colour board in a few minutes than I did for a paid tutorial.
Someone help! I can't figure out how to get the adjustments into final cut, I have them downloaded, and watched the other video but its not working
Same here! I don't know what to do
how did you download them? did you buy them? where's the link
This is GOLD. It's nice to know that one of my favourites media creators uses FCPX and share this tuts. Thanks!
Why do I not have "Adjustment" on my titles bar?? I just can't find it.
you have to download it
I don't usually leave a comment on RUclips videos, but your video was really helpful ! I've been trying to have the best colors on my videos but couldn't find any easy tutorial to understand how to do something cool but natural. So thanks a lot !!
this is by far one of the only useful color grading videos I've seen. THANK YOU
Thanks for this! Just got my A6300 and ND filter today. I’m somewhat familiar with fcpx but haven’t done color grading yet. This is extremely helpful!!!
Just discovered you. Your vids are for sure the best I've seen at teaching and walking through the steps. Subscribed my dude.
I see how useful that adjustment base is and I had no idea about it until this video, thanks you just made my work faster and easier
This is the tutorial I by far most often refer to. Absolutely brilliant.
Great video, Thank you! I am realizing that my 30 min video has a billion clips and that makes for a lot of tedious cuts and corrections but its worth it!
i got you... after i tired to check fo a good colour grading tutorial in youtube. you are far better than other youtubers. i have poor english, but i understood everything you explained.
Thank you sooo much for this. I needed it so bad. I am going to practice so much. I am so happy you're one of the few that still uses Final cut pro. Keep putting out videos. I love your simple style of teaching.
Now, trying to find simple and useful information about color grade in FCPX.. Thnx Mate!!
This tutorial made color correcting seem so much less daunting. Thank you for making the process easy and tangible! Really appreciate it!
This is hands down the best and ONLY color grading video I needed to watch. Thank you so much for this quality content!
daniel, you're a gem. thank you.
This video is very good, I am quite new to colour grading and I was overwhelmed looking at the in built options in FCP, your video made it simple and easy to understand. Thank you. appreciate the effort, liked and subscribed :)
Dude! I finally get it! I have struggled with color correction for some time now...and using your plug-ins and WOW! You ROCK Dude!!!!! Love your content
Keep coming back to this video! Thank you!
You are the most talented person on RUclips
The best color correction/grading tutorial i've seen. it's awesome how you were able to pull this off in about 10mts... you are a gem. thanks.
This is a perfect guide for beginners like me. Extremely clear and useful to learn about the basics for video editing!!! Thank you so much
I couldn't tell how much I love this tutorial. Thank you so much for sharing!
Very big help for people who are just getting into FCPX!
Hands down one of the most valuable videos I have watched! Thank you! Subscribed, liked, and shared! Ive always said if you can't explain it, you don't really know it. You explained it so clear and made it easy to follow. Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!
This made my day! I’m new to film making and only has Final Cut Pro for now. It was taking me forever to figure out how to color grade. Thanks a lot 🙌🏼
Thank you very much. just a teenage kid that likes to make movies w friends. this is great! I knew a lot of this stuff already but I learned a lot. thanks for making the best video I could find on this topic
Your tutorial is so easy to understand and to apply. I finally see some progress in my color grading thanks to this great tutorial. The flow with the layers you allow us to download saves a lot of time. Thank you very much. I wish you the best Daniel.
Wow!!!! I've been searching for a tutorial that's easy to understand and I finally found it! Thank you so much!!
I’m just getting into FCP for my channel and want to get more into color grading. This was exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for the great video!
I've come back to this tutorial so many times. thank you!
My guy really just changed my life !
This has for the longest time been my go to colour grading tutorial! Thank you so much for creating this!
Invaluable information as always!
This was soooo helpful, THANK YOU! I used to just slap on luts and wonder why everything looked awful lol. Color corrected - correctly - for the first time for my Iceland vlog and loved the results. Glad to have ran across your channel!
The way you explains things make life so simple! Keep up the good content. Oh yea come out with some LUTs 💪🏾
showing references like nobody els on youtube!!! love it! great tutorial please make more!
thankyou!
downloaded the data
my many shots have different lighting
thus i am kinda stuck to handle all the videos editing
You're really good at explaining how it works
I keep coming back to this whenever I need to edit some video. Thanks a bunch!
Daniel, love your videos. I have seen many tutorials on color grading where the RGB overlay scope is used to adjust the colors relative to each other. You are grading with only your eye. Which method is most accepted in the industry? Keep it up!
Hey Daniel, i have watched many different tutorials on color grading, but the technique that u have shared within this video, really helped me fix a video that i recorded with a very entry level canon 1100D in low light with around 70% black background. i am definitely going to be using this technique for all my future videos... i think i am even going to fix my own wedding video 😂
thanks a million once again. i have subscribed and clicked the notification 🔔
