Learning japanese feels like learning 3 or 4 lenguages. My intelectual side is happy, while my lazy one begs for mercy.

See, I knew this already, but the little beat thing you used to explain it blew my mind. If someone had said that to me in the first place, I wouldn't have had spent so many hours listening to the same words over and over again. 😂

    Excellent explanation
    ありがとうございます
On side note: if you have hard time spelling word after writing it on paper -- spell only first letters of syllables and those long vowels
Foreign word more visible that way
    Example: Staabakusu, spell it Stabaks

Katakana in particular has been hard for me to memorize. I guess because hiragana is used primarily with my beginner textbooks. This video has been very helpful with my struggle with katakana! ありがとうございます!

The video explains it very well and I understand this much better now. However it takes me way to long time to read certain katakana symbols, so I better practice more and see if I have improved by reading furigana. :P

Katakana words can be more challenging than Hiragana especially if your native language is English. Take your time and keep practicing. You will eventually improve the speed of reading them. がんばってください!😊

I have a harder time figuring out what katakana words mean that I do hiragana or even kanji. カタカナ嫌い. lol
I was very surprised at how many business signs you see on the streets were written in katakana.

What gets me is that I have to "japanesify" a word I already know. So, I have to enter Japanese thinking mode, but then I have to look at a word from Japanese, but it's not a Japanese word, so it's weird and I struggle to understand it. So to understand it I have to switch to thinking in English and translate English sounds --> Katakana --> Sound out to find the English word. It's better when it's a word not taken from English, but man, it's a process sometimes to figure out what a word is. Especially if it isn't something common. (I won't hesitate a second when it's a brand name. But someone trying to use a word that'll sound foreign and stylish, forget it. I'm gonna take a second to process that one.)

Ronさん、わかりますよ。It's even so in the menu at a restaurant, right? Katakana words are especially challenging for people who are English speakers. がんばって練習してくださいね!

@@YukoSensei At the restaurants I went to the waitresses didn't want anyone trying to speak japanese. There were always pictures on the menu and they wanted you to point at the food you wanted. I even saw them do this to people who were clearly Japanese.
      とてもおもしろかった!

I also find katakana a bit more difficult to master than hiragana. One of the great challenges for westerners, with no prior experience, is that the Japanese writing system is so completely different. Especially when it comes to learning kanji symbols!

Nothing, if u say chiketto, it means you're using at a loan word, kippu would be an original Japanese word. You can use both
