Hi Yuko, This explanation really helped, that small つ had me baffled for a long time, I was actually pronouncing it when reading text not knowing it's silent! Thanks for the explanation and keep up the hard work ありがとうございます!
Thank you ma'am. I'm learning Japanese from last 2 weeks and 'tsu' came while learning and i was thinking what is the use of 'tsu' now i know because of you. Really appreciate it.. ありがとう❤️
Well explained this difficult concept. Wish you had private online lessons. Your hiragana/katakana mnemonics lessons were extremely helpful. Thank you.
It's helpful lesson , specially for me, You removed a big problem off me, because my name have double consonant "HADDAD Mohammed" Now I can write it without any problem . Thank you so so much sensei
HADDADさん、I am sorry to say this but this double consonants rule does not always apply to foreign words like your name. To write your name in Katakana, you have to ask a Japanese person to actually hear the pronunciation of your name and to transcribe it. For instance, the English word "bed" doesn't have double consonants but to our ears, it sounds "beddo" so we spell it ベッド with the small ッ. On the other hand, "kitty" has double consonants in it but to our ears, it sounds "kiti" so we spell it キティ without small ッ. We perceive foreign sounds differently.
This was very helpful! I got to this subject in my book and was having trouble making sure I was pronouncing it correctly. Thank you for the nice explanation!
I didn’t understand the difference between Rokku and Roku at first but now I understand that one must be slowly pronounced vs the other. Thank you にほんご の せんせい!!!

I am finding it very hard to see the difference in chiisai tsu and tsu in Japanese writing. Tsu is already "shorter" by a little than most other syllables in Hiragana. The katakana chiisai tsu is easier for me to differentiate.
@@magnet4214 For example we say Mohammed Ali with duple M and we spell Double Consonants in Arabic too . في اللغة العربية كما في اللغة اليابانية هناك حروف مشددة و نلفظها مشددة و على سبيل المثال : كلمة حلال المرققة بدون شدة تعني عكس حرام ، بينما حلًال باللام المشددة تعني الشخص الذي يحل عقدة أو مشكلة فنقول حلال مشاكل . أرجو أن تكون قد وضحت الفكرة
For the first one (さか) you pronounce it regularly with two beats For さっか , you pause a beat between さ and か (this one is explained in this video :D) For さあか, the extra あ sound makes the さ’s vowel sound extended さかあ is the same idea, but instead of extending さ, your extend か’s vowel sound I hoped this help and isn’t confusing
So like? There's a short gap like with 学校 there's a short gap between the が sound and the こ because there is a small っ in between? I think I get it 先生, ありがとう
Hi there Yuko-sensei, I am very confused about this phrase "入ってみたら?" Why exactly is there っ in this sentence? Is it because "Nyū" is like "Nyuu"? And why does っ change the 入 from "Nyū" to "Hai"?
The small っ in this sentence is used to double the t sound in て. When you conjugate a ~る verb, such as 入る into て form, it becomes ~って, or in this case 入って (はいって, haitte). Most kanji have different readings when paired with other kanji, compared to those when used with hiragana. 入 can be read as い, にゅう or はい depending on the context, but it still means "to enter" or something very similar (eg. 入学 or にゅうがく means enrolment, or more literally, school entry). I hope that helps!
I saw some japanese words from an online hiragana test I took that contains small tsu and I also saw the romanji format but instead of doubling the consonant the romanji of the small tsu turned into the letter T. Sorry I'm a beginner and I just found this recently. I'm really confused. Thank you!
This is a bit late, but "Miruku" comes from the english word "Milk" and "Gyuunyuu" is the standart japanese Word for Milk. They both have the same meaning, but "miruku" is used way less.
