Said it before and I'll say it again. I thoroughly enjoy the detailed explanations you give on different aspects of clubs, shafts and swings. Thanks and keep it up. Also like your humility and humor.
Thank you mate :) keep jumping in the comments, it really does help!
I went to a fitting recently and the AI Smoke (standard) hits were quite forgiving, and went like rockets when hit well. Lofts a bit stronger than I ideally wanted, but the main issue was that just I didn't like the look of them. Obviously completely subjective, and if that's not an issue for you, then I'd highly recommend people giving them a go.
That's fair ...You have to feel confident with your clubs and if you're not quite convinced with them sitting behind the ball, don't force it :)
Great review. Callaway don't actually make a big deal of the face insert on this in their marketing and I'm glad you've shown it to be there, because I always find that irons that have a TPU or foam insert, feel way better than hollow body irons like the Ping's for example.
Given that they have 3 versions, it's always such a shame that the 'players' version of the release has such strong lofts. They've gone with 28.5 for the 7 iron which is ridiculous and only offer 2 degrees weak as a custom fit. Why not go with 30 degrees as stock and then offer +/- 2 degrees, so many more people who just want stock distances with a bit more forgiveness would buy them. I don't want a juiced up 7 iron that goes 190 and then have 20 yard gaps all the way to my 50° wedge!
Good points there, I guess the lofts are stronger to make the ball go further and then the Apex line of clubs aren't as aggressive loft wise as their alternatives - Shame the HL is only available in the more offset/Max version in this case!
You need to look at the big picture but also the individual hitting them. Apex, speed, launch angle, descent angle, spin all play their rôle
@paulmcgee1867 indeed ...fitting is key ...shame there's good and bad fittings out there with different retailers and quality of training ....also integrity vs sales targets 😅 ruclips.net/video/oLsUzHelUTQ/видео.html
Since I currently use the Callaway Mavrik irons I found this especially interesting. The Mavrik has much the same technology so I don't see any reason the change my irons. My only complaint is that the offset is more than I need. My normal swing is in-to-out about 5* with the face open about 2*, so I hit a slight draw almost every time (starting the ball a little right and drawing in).
Sounds good to me! In this scenario, I'd test the new heads with the closest current shaft with one of my pupils in a similar scenario ..I'd imagine that they wouldn't be enough of a jump in flight benefits to warrant a new purchase most of the time ....the time it would make sense would be if that pupil has grown out of the old clubs and a new spec is needed to match the current swing
That could come from more speed / faster or slower (normally faster if i'm teaching them ;) )
Sometimes in all fairness the speed and spin changes and a golf ball change makes all the difference
But I'd do a fitting even if it simply fills the player with confidence current clubs are on point
@@FredzGolf Thank you for reply.
love my ai smoke. i would say if you dont play a high spin ball they are too low spin. i was using a urethane vice pro and they were nuckle balls into greens, not a bad ball but not top end spin.
lately ive been playing tour b x bridgestone and they are performing better, but my drives are a bit more spinny then id like and not as efficient as a bit lower compression ball for me. im 100 ss. so im gonna bend the ai smoke 1 deg weaker, i think that will be just fine...
Good idea indeed going weaker loft! and the golf ball is a good place to look for spin changes
I thought the Max Fast came with graphite as standard?
Performance difference with graphite?
They can, retailers will normally hold steel and/or graphite if they do hold stock - graphite is an option as opposed to the standard shaft found in them straight off the rack
(I do fittings from a Demo kit and don't hold stock so I'll order as and when based on the customer fitting results)
they do come with graphite as standard and very light graphite.
@11BCampbell11 I think I misinterpreted the first comment 😇 all Callaway irons can come with graphite
anything available for Canada?
I'm not sure about the Canadian market unfortunately
Seems pointless testing the Maxfast in a steel shaft when its only available in a 40grm graphite.
They're not "on the shelf" in steel, but if I custom fit them and a golfer needs them in steel, I can order them in steel with a lot of choice as well 👌
Just custom fit with a steel shaft and they are amazing! Only thing is the chrome finish seems to wear quite quick on em!
@@mervas87 Nice 👌 interesting point on the wear, I'd not thought of that!
