    Played this weekend and didnt have my own clubs so they gave me a rental set of Smoke Irons. I was absolutely not in the market for a new set of irons with having just bought a new set of Ping 525’s but these things blew me away on feel and distance. Reaching out to my pro shop to see cost, etc

    I just got a custom set of AI Smoke originals, they are almost identical to my Rogue ST Pros. I got mine 1Degree weak and had to decide to keep them all long or shorten to normal, so I decided -.25 of in. I am an 11 handicap, use to be a 4.5, but don’t play as much and that’s mainly due to driver issues. These are compact, I don’t understand how anyone can say they aren’t: they have less offset than almost all Players distance clubs, even if you compare 7 to 8 iron T200s still have more offset. Perfect for 5-15 handicap

    If you go back to the Rogue St pro. It was such a different design with a great look. I always thought Callaway was testing a change with that iron. A very underrated iron. But it was too small for the masses, even smaller that apex 21. I see the same look in this standard model with the high chrome and shaping, but these are bigger.

    Standard loft specs are just a starting point. Can bend these 2 degrees weak if you need more spin. A lot of players won’t - these fly high and land on a steep angle. Indoor testing always shows lower spin because it is off a mat surface.

    • @hcharton5722
      @hcharton5722 6 месяцев назад

      How would weaker lofts increase spin?

    • @davidmeeks7449
      @davidmeeks7449 5 месяцев назад

      Law of physics. Weaken lofts to add spin, strengthen lofts to reduce spin. A wedge spins more than a 7 iron due to having more loft.

      Just been fitted for the HL model. I’m an 8 h’cap and used to blades without a launch or distance issue. These just make the game easier (save me practicing twice a week too!) and are sooooo consistent. Folks need to take out their EGOS and this nonsense term ‘game improvement’ which is an utter misnomer……..I hit these further, higher and more consistently with no huge feel difference to my mizunos.

    Not sure I like what Callaway is doing with the Paradym AI Smoke series. Callaway used to just have the Paradym for Players Distance and Paradym X for Game Improvement. At 0:40, this vid shows us three models of AI Smoke, then he says there’s two models. There are actually FOUR; Paradym AI Smoke, AI Smoke HL, AI Smoke Max, and AI Smoke Max Fast. I guess he’s confused too. Along with Paradym X, Callaway actually has FIVE game improvement irons! We only have so much time with a fitter and we should walk in with some idea of what clubs we’re interested in. Isn’t the Paradym AI Smoke series spread a little thin to make a real difference?

    These are not clubs designed for me but could suit my playing partner.
    Back of the club is a bit too busy for me, not as bad as some of the irons of the past - yes Cobra I am thinking of your irons where the back of the club was a glorified advertising billboard. Overall not a bad looking club, although there haven't been any really bad looking clubs since the Taylor Made MGCB which I considered to be eye wateringly ugly.
    Spin rates are a bit low for my taste but I suspect for the golfers these are aimed at their longest iron should be a 6i.
    Would be interesting to see someone with a slowish swing speed trying the HL and Fast models to see the differences

    That regular smoke isn't going to work for a lot of guys. This tester is a lot faster than the majority of golfers and still couldn't generate a good level of spin, or a good landing angle. The HL fits the average guy a lot better.

      Good question and thanks for watching. We really like the new AI Smart Face technology in all the AI Smoke clubs. Mishits just perform much better. With that said, the original Paradym model is really solid too for a little lower price. To me, it depends on your budget. • @davezalinko1354
      @davezalinko1354 Год назад +2

      Mizunos are super nice, feel like knife going through butter. Just wasn’t happy with my performance with them. I’m 55 and need something with more distance. The Paradyms gave me this. On average 15 more yards.
      If I was getting same numbers with the 223s I would have kept them.
      Try them out for fun. We all swing different.

    • @davidmeeks7449
      @davidmeeks7449 11 месяцев назад

      Gotta say I had the 225’s and then the standard Paradym and I thought the Paradyms had them beat. Very powerful irons that feel great. They do not take a back seat in feel to the Mizuno hollow headed models. The Callaway microspheres do a great job. Super forgiving on thin hits, much more so than the 225.

    • @TheKeinan96
      @TheKeinan96 11 месяцев назад

      Yes I can do that. I may go hit all the new ones and see how the compare to the Paradyms.

      Reason why smoke is cheaper they are cast , over forged for Paradyms.

    The loft-jacking continues! A 28 degree 7 iron isn’t a 7 iron. It just isn’t. You can only hit it high enough with a steep enough descent angle if you have high swing speed. And if you have high swing speed you don’t need a 28 degree 7 iron that goes almost 200 yards. You’d need 5 wedges! Bonkers

    • @2ndswing
      @2ndswing  Год назад +18

      It's true, iron lofts are getting much stronger! But as noted in the video, there are lots of players that benefit from it. Our fitters see a ton of golfers with above-average swing speeds that have steep attack angles and an out-to-in path (lots of former baseball players who have picked up golf). Most of the time, these golfers benefit from strong iron lofts. Is this best for everyone? Absolutely not. and to your point, if the 7-iron is going 200 yards, we probably won't recommend that set!

    • @2ndswing
      @2ndswing  8 месяцев назад +4

      Lol, thanks for watching! Kevin is a superb player and has no problem getting his irons in the air I assure you. If these irons work for you, that's awesome! You probably generate more spin than him due to either swing speed, attack angle, or both. Kevin's swing lends itself to lower spin rates, hence why he plays higher lofted irons than the Paradym Ai Smoke.
