This is a type of game review I haven’t seen for a long time on RUclips, doesn’t talk down to you, very informative but not 5 hours long. You provide branching paths to investigate various other games and media, which help inform opinions of the game even if you’re not familiar with the references. No crazy theatrics but not dry as dirt. Hope to see more of these
Considering most Kickstarter spiritual successors tend to turn out bad, Eiyuden turning out to be a mixed bag with a decent amount of positives is probably a blessing.
I agree with pretty much everything you say, especially for people who're in love with Suikoden Series back then. The lack of consequences/ death in a war game is tearing the plot of this game apart. Suikoden 2 works because as war go on, you see villages burn, people died. You see even your dear friend could die too. But in Hundred Heroes, no matter what war happened , there's almost no consequences whatsoever, and people just live their normal life. All the villagers still intact. No-one really died in the war too, as if the war has no consequence in this game. For the combat, since i pick hard difficulty, the boss battle is mostly fine and have some challenges, but I dislike how restrictive the customization is on 80%~ of the characters. Basically only the CHOSEN 20% are allowed any meaningful customization (like mc and a lot of casts joined near the end of the game) I know they dont want to make the game too ez by allowing players to have access to powerful heroes too soon, but making all the other casts suck is NOT the way to do it. You also get good runes way too late into the game. At early game , every characters pretty much going to wear the same runes. But side mission/ collectable/ building base/ recruiting is doing so great i spent more time doing them. It's such as shame this game has such great casts and side content, but not a good enough plot and combat depth to back it up.
Thank God! I was trying to find an excuse not to play this! Finding "a hundred" heroes was really easier said than done from the get-go! But having to do tedious mini games, side quests and fetch quests in order to have them join the party just feels like a pain in the ass! And if you really want my personal opinion, It really should've been a platformer like Rising because that was easy to get around despite having too many side quests! Don't tell me suidoken was probably like this from beginning, right?
11:10 I fully expected a Rave to bust out. Okay, This took me back. Inot too fast, it's not too slow, it's comfortably in the middle, frank critique is very much welcome. 7/10 is a fair score, I'm a giving this a 10/10 for making a MLG chill. Can't wait to see more.
just FYI they already confirmed Eiyuden 2. Murayama left them an outline and the game is selling well. I'm quite happy about this because I do think the game could very easily be an all-timer with some tweaks. well. maybe a lot of tweaks. I agree with all your comments except I hate most of the side activities and genuinely kind of love the combat, maybe because I really did experience absolutely brainless "same at hour 1 as in hour 50" combat that completely ruined a Kickstarter game... in Sea of Stars last year lol. at least it feels like there's progression in Eiyuden! overall I feel like what this game needs is 1. TURBO BUTTON/SKIP ANIMATIONS IN BATTLE OH MY GODDDDD 2. make the side activities/minigames not suck ass 3. QOL features like why are town names not on the maps??? I think I'd still give it a 9/10 personally (this is an extremely generous score, but it is MY score) because I genuinely love the vibes. I think the characters are so good and the gameplay loop is a blast.
yea sea of stars combat really needed to iterate and it didn't. i gave that game around the same score last year, but SoS' combat is a little more tedious because of the minigame approach to the attacks. Which would be fine if they gave the characters more to do. I played through Tomato Adventure (GBA, Alphadream) a couple of years ago and it also had the minigame approach to combat, but they kept giving you new attacks in every new location so it never got dull.
The game is far from perfect but we must remember that 1. It's a kickstarter project 2. It's a new IP, even though it's trying to mimic Suikoden The game has its flaws but they are especially apparent when you compare it to other great RPG and especially to Suikoden 2 (which is the clear inspiration especially story wise). However, Suikoden 2 is one of the best games of all time. Even nowadays, there are few RPG that can compare to it I have high hopes for future updates or for a future sequel, and if this game needed to be the Suikoden 1 for Suikoden 2 to exist, I'll happily accept it
Its fair but we also need to remember that the team thats making eiyuden is the one that makes suikoden 1 2. So people get hyped for a reason. The only saving grace is just hopium for better sequel
It seems like they did at least make a plan to fix the incorrectly applied stats on some characters, while the rest has been quality of life stuff. There's supposed to be DLC at some point so they may make further updates by then.
I had the general same feeling with the game. I think the devs bit off more than the could chew with this one. I was so disappointed by with the 30 hours I put into this game
Really you dident like Eiyuden Chronicle ? I really liked the game and all the fun battles and quirky side games :) I loved the cooking story and fun character interactions. Also the story is pretty good. Is it a 10/10 hell no but definitly 7,5/10 !
I am a Suikoden big fan and didnt feel the its vibe in Eiyuden much.. i like your review of the game its spot on but i give this game 6/10 also i hated the fact that rune-lens werent that special like a True Rune vibe and because of it Noah and the others didnt feel special at all
All these Japanese rpgs …suckkk compared to Xcom 2 .( in Xcom 2 you can customize everything, class appearance, gender, nationality….and if you want permadeath you just turn it on ) 1) place Xcom 2) place fire emblem for tactical battles
I overhyped the game too much and kinda let down by the actual game 🥲 I was expecting a 10/10 game and got a 7 maybe 7.5/10 The game is good tbh, would love to get more like it.

If Eiyuden 2 were so improved that it made the first one feel like a prologue, that would be the most Suikoden thing possible.
Considering most Kickstarter spiritual successors tend to turn out bad, Eiyuden turning out to be a mixed bag with a decent amount of positives is probably a blessing.
yea, it could've been an absolute disaster! instead it's a game that could turn out OK if they continue to address concerns post-release.

Regarding those skill descriptions, most of it seems to be due to the shoddy localization. Aka, they are mistranslated.
One Indy Action RPG i really liked was Cross Code. I don't know if you heard of it, but if you have not played it, give it a try.
CrossCode is great. I know some people don't love the length of the puzzle dungeons but I really liked them. I still need to do the DLC at some point.

Castle building does sound like fun... Hmmm
I have thus in my backlog. Have they continued to update the game and address issues?

I’ll just replay Suikoden tbh
Seeing a lot of PS1-era Breath of Fire influence in this one
I had the general same feeling with the game. I think the devs bit off more than the could chew with this one. I was so disappointed by with the 30 hours I put into this game
I have like 50 games with "1 minute played". Anyway nice review
OOooooo I can't even say that I've completed a few hundred games, much less a thousand hahaha NICE!!

oh so i was right not get hyped for this. good.
Still better than Final Fantasy 16
I actually drop this. When i actually finish all 5 suikoden games even suikoden 4. The battle, the war is boring. Hope eiyuden 2 fix this
I dunno, I quite enjoyed myself with this game!
Also, that pronunciation of Nowa... it's painful...

Same. It's not bad, its just okay. But i was hoping for something great. Theres even missing qol from game nowdays
