for reference, the real names of those characters were from the second game were: シルケ・シルビプシ = Shiruke Shirubipushi はなびしん = Hanabishin スパイシー = Supaishii (aka "Spicy") デンブー = Denbuu (pronounced similarly to 臀部, which means Buttocks) フャンシー = Fyanshii (i'm assuming this is just "Fancy"...?) i don't know Japanese that well so i'm sure i'm missing some puns here but, at the very least, that's how they're pronounced!
I've made it pretty far into Blade Arts, and will continue streaming it until it's done. I don't perfectly understand it, but progress is steady. The attempt begins here: ruclips.net/video/cs2z5U0a4-k/видео.html
Would you believe I actually spelled the title of the game incorrectly in the video description! That would explain why you were having trouble finding it 😅 I've updated it now to Engacho! Which is the correct spelling. I had a quick look on ebay, and there does seem to be some copies on there. Although they are a little pricier than what I expected 👀
I sure as sh@ was not expecting to see mr flying butt, so up close and personal, as to the see it's starfish push open and dump on the screen. I think my mom would have passed out if she saw me play it as a kid.
This series has been pretty great and enjoyable thus far! I can't wait to see the next episode. By the way, if you by any chance haven't seen this game yet, I'd recommend adding "Remote Control Dandy" to your list.
I found a text version of the credits for Blade Arts, and the first two characters listed (presumably the MC and the bad guy) are voiced by Showtaro Morikubo and Norio Wakamoto. Pretty big names in the voice acting business! The roles aren't even listed on their respective Wikipedia pages, that's how obscure the game is. Also, one of the composers is Tsuyoshi Kaneko, probably most well-known for Segagaga on the Dreamcast, and the other is Shinji Nukaga who, uhh... played guitar on the opening theme for Ever17 ~The Out of Infinity~. And he has a RUclips channel with guitar tutorial/tab videos. So, yeah.
Just to let you know you've got one Japanese sub in me to judge all your mispronunciations and stuff😜 Seriously though, it's always great to see some genuine 90s obscurities represented on YT whereas I've seen in an awful lot of cases so called obscure Japanese games are not that obscure in Japan and they simply lump all the unreleased/untranslated games into either obscure or (occasionally) hidden gem categories. Blade Arts looks legit promising, and from what I gleaned from your footage the plot involves a healthy amount of occult and pseudo science-y stuff going that was popular back then around the year Y2K, which is right up my alley. I've found multiple let's plays in Japanese but none of them appear to have English subtitles, as expected. I also came across a walkthrough on an ancient HTML website which is kinda amazing but I'm afraid putting a link here might mark me as a spammer so yeah.
Haha please judge away, and alow me to apologise in advance for the inevitable future mispronunciations 😅 Thank you so much for the info! I try to digg up as much information as I can for each game, but English websites can be pretty limiting unfortunately. If you wanted to avoid risking the RUclips spam police. You could always send any links to my channel email: contactseanseanson@gmail.com I'd let people know in the next episode that there's some playthroughs of BA available if they wanted to check it out, share some in the description. Of course I'll give credit to you as well for finding them, it's only fair 😁 Either way, I appreciate the comment and thanks for watching!
@@SeanSeanson As it turned out, there seems to be only one channel that did the entire playthrough for BA, and that wasn't even on RUclips but on a Japanese streaming service; It used to require signing up and I don't even know if they allow access from overseas w/out a VPN to begin with but anyways here's the playlist: www.nicovideo.jp/mylist/18441226 And for the walkthrough satoyama35.sakura.ne.jp/sonohoka/bladearts/bladearts.htm Hope this helps, though admittedly I suspect those who are peculiar enough to take a deep dive into such an obscure game would more or less make it without any handholding as you sorta did haha
Blade Arts looks awesome, those mechanics look better than what should be possible on a PS1. Crazy there isn't a fan translation out there for it, it seems like something that would be a really appealing candidate.
That flying arse... sorry, our Lord and Savior ! Thanks for this new video, it’s so nice to hear your voice (and Orla’s) to start the year ;) P.S. : LOVE THAT BMO PLUSHIE 😍
praise the wheel! Congrats you've shown me another game to haunt my nightmares. Engacho looks like exactly the kind of puzzle game I love with the look of something I hate. Gross. Poor Orla. Also did I spy a game titled Alice in Cyberland? Colour me intrigued.
Thankfully there's tons of cat games, so I'll get orla to crack eventually. Alice in Cyberland is based on an Anime/Manga series I think... So you should watch it immediately.
About the last game, so sad to see so much work go into a game just to be immediately ignored and forgotten. Or maybe I'm underestimating how much AA games used to sell
Blade Arts looks really cool, but that language barrier would stump me too :/ Wish it got localised! The other games....cant say they would be my cup of tea 😅 but enjoyed learning of them! Great series so far look forward to more!
That second game is a very interesting concept for a puzzle game. I've seen similar stuff in TRPGs but I wonder if there is anything other puzzlers in the same vein
Hey Sean. I know you use DuckStation to record footage. Do you use Software rendering or some other setting? I'm always conflicted between the "authentic" look and upscaling it to 4k.
It all comes down to personal preference really, I could see why some folks would like to play in 4K but I think it's benefits vary wildly from game to game IMO. Personally I try to keep the games looking as vanilla as possible to try and convey a close representation of what you'd expect when playing it on a regular old PlayStation. When in doubt, trying to get the games looking as normal as possible, tends to upset the least amount of people when you're showcasing em on youtube! As for settings I find Vulkan with no adjustments to international resolution or extra effects gives me the best performance/customistion over software rendering but once again it's all down to preference really!
I did not expect to see Blade Arts. I looked into that a while ago and there is some interesting stuff. First, the subtitle is Tasogare no Miyako R'lyeh, R'lyeh being a city from Lovecraft where Cthulu sleeps. There are some IGN articles about it and apparently there were plans for a localisation, but they never happened. Which is a shame, there really aren't a lot of action games like this on the PS1. Brightis, a similar game, also almost got a western release. This channel here has 9 hours of footage, should be more than the first level. And there are other videos too. watch?v=DRGBZ40Wd30 If Engacho ever gets a sequel, it needs dickbutt. But it's already disgusting enough. I don't want to get a POV of dickbutt killing me. First game reminds me of a PSX shooter which is a homage to 70s mech anime, Geppy or something. PS: I really hope you got Brightis on your list, though it's probably really hard to play without Japanese.
Dickbutt would be perfect for Enchago 2! Thanks for the info on Blade Arts! Shame that a localisation was considered but never came to be. I checked out some footage of Brightis just there and it looks really cool, definately something I'd wanna check out. I should likely have it on the games list, but if not I'll get it added right away. Thanks again for the info and appreciate the comment!
Whoa can't believe you actually mention Brightis out of all things since that's exactly the game that came to my mind as I was watching this episode. I remember once playing a demo of it, included in an issue of IIRC Hyper Playstation Re-Mix mag and quite liked it although the controls were junky to put it mildly. I didn't get around to own the full game but it left a bit of an impact on my taste in gaming as a preteen back then. In hindsight Brightis and Blade Arts to some degree seem to have been thematically ahead of its time? Certainly we got tons and tons of dark and gritty 3D action RPGs and brawlers in the PS2 era.
Do you know one game that the protagonist fightning against green slimes in the some kind of castle or ship? He has red hair and locks like Koh from Asure Dreams? I searching for weeks for this game on internet but I can't find it. I even cannot remember the name of this game because I was young when I play it. I want to play that game again.
This is a bit of long shot, but it kinda sounds like a Net Yaroze game called Terra Incognita. It has a protagonist with red hair, it starts on a ship and has blobs that you fight? It came with certain demo discs. It might also be either of the Alundra games? There's a surprisingly large number of red hair protags fighting slimes haha
