    *there is a sublime and elegant beauty to this cover that transcends any and all reasons for petty bickering and finding fault with others...just sayin'*

    Always loved the vocal versions from e.g. Blackmore's Night and Rednex, but this version by Tim Simek on Hammered Dulcimer, with its passionate flow and rhytm is just outstanding. Thank you Edward, greetings from Sweden!

    There are so many words today that are falsely, and grossly overused, in descriptive language, for things that rarely meet any threshold of the definition. And when you find something that is truly amazing, astonishing, sublime, or manifests a metaphysical response in your soul, we are left with very few words to describe that experience. So I’m going to explain, as best I can, what happened when I just listened to this….
    I’m sitting at my desk at work. It’s a relatively calm nightshift. I find this video and I know I’m a big fan of both the dulcimer and Pink Floyd. I put in one of my ear buds so if something happens I can still hear what’s going on. The music starts and about 3rd bar I close my eyes. And for the remainder of the song there’s nothing else. There is a singularity pushing out all conflict. It’s as if for 4 minutes, everything in the world doesn’t matter. There is just me, and this music. As a musician, I’ve listened to all types of music. And I appreciate them all even if they aren’t pleasing to my ears. Every once in awhile I come across something that captures my attention and takes me to a place that transcends the physical world around me. This did that. So if there’s an adjective that justly explains that experience, that’s the one I would use to describe this. And all I can say is “Thank you”.

    I think the musicians exquisite play reveals the complexity of David Gilmore's song writing. What a joy to listen to. I played the video back-to-back.

    Can you help me find a good used dulcimer like yours? I am in Knoxville area and don't know where to start. I took a class in another state and was able to get a loaner from the Dulcimer Society and learned that I have a natural talent for this instrument.

      I would start at Smokey Mountain Dulcimer. Mark may be able to help you out.

    What a great instrument for drummers, if they want to play something more melodic.

  • @fjb4932

    As a non-musician i'm wondering if it has to be played so hard. Striking the strings gently may be...softer ? Sounds like in an airport or mall and he'd trying to play over the noise. Unappreciated audience. Sounds like he starts out trying to make them listen. You can lead a horse to water... ☆

    • @EdwardGoodman
      @EdwardGoodman  7 месяцев назад +2

      You are right. The force with which the strings are struck affects the volume of the tone created, just like on a piano. In this case, he was hired to provide background music at a quilt show in a convention center.
