Thanks for posting all those DIY " How to" tweek this rudimentary machine to run like a Ferrari! and sharing your sewing experiences for achieving good results! Just ordered one and have already mentaly allocated time to tweek all issues befor even starting to fail sewing successfully and then getting frustrated. Your videos are great encouragement that this can be turned into a nice little workhorse! Best regards from Tasmania ( close to Antarktica)
Mr Hightower,(heavy on mister) :) Gary here, I bought this machine in February, finally got needles, thread. I, like many others, have seen all your videos many times. Sir You make it look easy.( you have done a lot of work behind the scenes just to make it look easy) All the Timing is as you stated, needle height is right, tension is good (per job of course). Thread is as you recommend, I like/want the heavier type 192,205. The machine does a nice job on the smaller thread, but lousy on the heavy thread. I have tried for hours on end to find the problem. One little change at a time I am using a 22 gage, ( it will also cut the thread on a 20 gage needle) I get 3 good stitches (205 thread and 192 bobbin) and it friction breaks the thread, I watch it in slow motion, slow turning and when it comes up on the forth, the thread is cut in two. ( not melted) fairly thick leather, soft and pliable ( 5or6 maybe, still learning ) There is nothing even close to the needle/thread. I did a lot of filing in the needle hole (shuttle base) just to make the clearance accept the needle an thread The machine is setup as yours, I don't think I missed anything. Bobbin thread is fine. With this machine I had to enlarge the hole in the shuttle bed alot, 18 gage needle was hitting the sides.I needed to make a new cover plate, bigger hole(steel that I can work with). I have discovered the shuttle bed will move and breaks the needle. That changes a lot of things when it moves. The three bolts are tight also. It took a few times to get everything back in place when it did move. I have made a free floating thread holder, separate from the machine, no binding there. everything is nice an clean an smooth, and oiled. It runs very well, nice an smooth. I get all my parts and thread, needles from your recommendations. Nobody in town even knows what I'm talking about for anything above 18 gage needles or thread above 30 weight,, (close in maybe in size. the thread info sizing is really hard to understand even the sewing center here in town can not understand it) I really do not understand what is wrong, I'm sure I've missed something somewhere. Do you have an idea or anyone else out here. Thanks Gary
I have watched many of your hints and tips over the last week and have been very impressed so I dived in and ordered one! I went for the eBay option from a local vender to me (I am in Birmingham U.K.) Ordered on Sunday after noon,it arrived today, Tuesday! The finish is amazing ! All the roughly finished arms and the flywheel on the ones seen on RUclips are chrome plated on the one received... well done on your videos,,keep them coming!

Hello Harrison, This is Heather Flanders, I bought or received my machine last Monday, it;s a IronWall by ColourdPea. I don't know the difference because they all look alike to me. I have had nothing but problems since I received it. It did sew when I got it but it had wire thread. I am a leather Crafter and that wouldn't do. So I changed thread and everything went to pot. I have watched a lot of video's and everyone says something different. I have watch a lot of yours and you are an outstanding teacher I want you to know that. I guess I have the timing off for starts I thought I had it back. I have the same problem most people have the bobbin doesn't seem to really fit the machine. It does go in but very rough I sanded it down but it seems to me that the very pointed piece on the bobbin holder cuts the thread .... but that piece that you say needs to go just to the back of the needle doesn't. I've tried adjusting things (probable making things worse) but the thread got cough up really badly and i finally got it out. I've worked 5 days trying to fix this machine. I have been a seamstress for years and brought my 65yr old Singer trying to sew leather. Bought another and sent it back because it would do what it was suppose to do. We watched your video on taking it part night before last and put it together last night. But it didn't help. Please can you help me, I agree with your new charges, should have been doing that all along. I am 83 yrs young and this is really starting to get to me. I am mechanically inclined but this is over my head. Thanks for reading this book, sorry to be so wordy My email address is : hkflanders11@gmail.com
I got one recently. So far your vids are the best. The bobbin wonder kicks my ass until I drilled a hole in the bobbin and found not to hold the excess string too tight. I messed mine up by over lessening the thread length
Thank you, thank you, am a newbee to this game just got my chinese leather patcher on a base, half assed cleaned and a few trial stiches that were ok on the top but the bottom was not being pulled up into the mat'l the bobbin tension is brutal (factory wound bobbin) I backed off the screw spring and deburred the bobbin carrier holes but not much better. Ran outta time will try a new rewound bobbin and not the fishing line that comes with it. But thanks to your vids at least now I have an idea what to look for and what I am doing other than not stabbing my finger or other important body parts
I got quality polyester thread and quality needles from TheThreadExchange dot com. An amazing world of difference, after a thorough cleaning, timing tune-up, and checking the other tips from Mainly Acres. He has been a life saver.
So a smooth pressure foot would help there! Also I was concerned about the slight angle on the ring on my machine, and you answered my question! I just ran a series of stitch holes in a piece of paper and sure enough there is a full mm difference between the shortest and longest stitch stroke! Thanks now I need to remove the arms fix that and the disc too is off so I may try to fix that too!
Harrison. Thanks for all the excellent instructional videos! I am looking to buy a machine to sew synthetic webbing, such as seat belt webbing. Have you done that? Do you see any problem doing it? Any recommendations on thread or needle size? Thanks for your help. Cheers
I am having a major issue with mine! I have watched all your videos and find them so helpful! My top thread keeps getting caught in my bobbin well. When I go to thread my machine, and pull the thread out with the loop of bobbin thread, it is so tight. What can I do?
Hi, first of all Thank you for your videos it is very helping getting an hand on the machine. I still have issue with tension and my Nylon thread 🧵. Also my needle keep breaking 😕. Could you please provide others tips for this!!? I’m trying to set up my machine for days now!!
Hi, Thanks for your videos, been a true help working thru patcher issues. Also wondering if you know if Bantam Saddle Tack is still in business. Tried to order, tried to call, tried to email via the site and no response. Thanks
based on my 26 hours of chinese shoe patcher ownership. It seems a bit of scotch tape on the bobbin makes the bobbin winder functional, but I fully intend to remake it with a magnet trick I saw somewhere. And a self drilling screw in each leg seems to stiffen up the included base enough to work with it, but it's still tippy so I'll be making a new base next week. Thus far I've refilled the bobbin three times just playing around with small stuff :P
We mounted our tripod backwards first time. Two legs out front so arm balances between works better. One leg behind. It's stable now. Until I make another type stand.
Harrison, thank you for all your videos… I have been working on mine since December and have gotten no where. I have watched and complied with all you videos multiple times and it just will not work. Is it possible that I have a bad machine? I don’t really see how that could be as they are so simplistic… thoughts… thanks!
Can you make a vidieo on the screw on the top main bar and what its for? I cant get my 29k-2 to sew properly it sews in one spot very tiny stiches and dont seem to push the leather any where id really like to be able to sew with this fantastuck machine thanks 😢
are you saying "spend time with that family?" or "spend time without family?" because.... both are decent bits of advice, depending on one's circumstances.... But thanks for your videos on these machnes - without a doubt, they're the most comprehensive I've found. I took my machine apart to clean *all* the rough edges, to polish *all* the moving parts.... and that was a few months ago. I was actively putting it back together when you posted this video! You've obviously done some work on your machine, including paint (I think) - I know you've done it in the past, but would you be willing to do another, another remedial, "chinese sewing machine tutorial for dummies?" I get the tension right for a few feet of stitching, and as soon as I feel like I've *finally* got it.... something goes off and it takes months to get it to do more than 2-3 stitches in a row, before my top either can't get caught by the bottom hook, or the thread snaps (top thread, usually) or... both.... or some other problem which I haven't figured out yut I've tried basically everything I can think of, except to have taken it apart and smooth *all* the rough edges - hopefully that will have worked. Anyway - just figured I'd post some of the things I am hoping to catch, but either way - thanks again for your videos!
Oh, holy crap! I didn't see the last video's notification (or it never came through.... that's common) - I just went back to your page, so I'm watching that video now!
Idea... Seems a little tool of some sort would be useful to serve as a removable manual pressure foot (in lieu of your thumb) when not using the presser foot of the machine. Something that would reach around the needle to hold the fabric down on three sides.

It could be the stich adjustment screw. If you adjust it too far down or up it will stop the presser foot from moving. If that doesn't fix the issue I will need to see your machine to help further.

I customize nike air force 1's. however, i never fail to snap the thread. what can that be due to? Especially my bonded nylon thread versus my monofilament thread. yes

I've tried everything. My top thread keeps getting under my bobbin. It won't pick up the bottom thread. I'm ready to throw it away. What can I do.

Try adjusting the height of the needle, you might have placed it too high or low.
What is the largest thread and needle sizes this will work with?
T-207 with a size 23 needle

Looked on Amazon and there are 8-10 brands from $75-$130, is one that sticks out as better than the rest?
