Hello from Vermont. I’ve been checking out your videos for years now without one of these patchers and I stumbled across one at a scrap metal yard as it was being loaded into a crusher. The operator got out and charged me $10.00 metal weight. I’m planning to rebuild her
I have a project coming up that involves a lot of leather stitching. I don't know how to sew, but i love learning new skills. One thing I might mention is with the advent of cameras in cell phones, before you disassemble the sewing machine, take lots of pictures so when the time comes to reassemble you know what it original looked like. Great video. Thanks. And I will subscribe to your channel.
I appreciate not only your voice, but the entire key in the videos is the picture of the position of the shuttle when it stops turning counter-clockwise and the downward direction of the needle. Depth of the needle also. had to adjust the cam timing slightly also. I was lucky to set it up properly the first time, but hadn't cinched everything down and broke a needle and that threw everything off. leaving it sitting there for two years did not help it repair itself. Finally found the time . Ten or fifteen minutes of Watching the thing and Identifying the cycles and setting the shuttle was key, but setting the cam timing wrong helped me to set it right, and I'm way down the rabbit hole of mods on this thing as it works like a charm! Thanks!
I just finished this video and I'm so excited to get started on my new machine. Bummer is, I have to work tonight so I have to go to bed now. Thank you so much Harrison! I will be watching all your videos at work tonight lol!
I just got one of these and I watched this video and for the most part it’s all still relevant . There were some hardware “upgrades “😂 in the form of screws for the springs instead of just pins holding the ends. Mine is green vs. your kind of red here and there 😂. Thanks 👍🏻
Great video, just recieved mine in the mail and jumping into a full tear down for cleaning and a fresh coat of paint......mine is in ROUGH shape but not for long
Thank you for all of your clear and informative video's on this sewing machine! I make knives, and it always is one heck of a job to stitch those leather sheaths by hand. Your video's encouraged me to save some money to buy me one of these, I recon it will save me a bunch of time and my fingers 🤣👍
Awesome! I plan to break my machine down & do a lot of cleaning, filing & put a better paint job on it so it doesn't look like such a cheaply thrown together mess. Of course I'll need to do a few projects with it first, but won't be long! Lol!
Halo there, I just wanted to tell you that I have my machine today, and ges what? It looks terrible, but thanks to all of your videos that I been watching I think that I can solve the problem, I'll try again tomorrow, thank you so much, please keep helping us with them.
@@MainelyAcresFarmBrooks Wash that puppy off with break cleaner first thing like a bath to get rid of all debris on slides etc. well worth filing sanding and bending into shape. Not a thoroughbred but what a little mule, best bang for your money !
Harrison, for your next Q&A, could you show how to diagnose and adjust the bobbin and top tread tension in order to get the knot at the middle of the material being sewn? My machine came with /69 and when I stitch leather, the bobbin thread is very loose so as the knot coming out at the top of the material. Great video series!
I drilled a tiny hole in my bobbin shuttle now I can pull out easily with pointed tool also when I take the bobbin out I shimmy the crank while pulling on the bobbin thread and comes right out. Still a nu bi with this machine and a great addition to my Faff 130.
Hi brother I I really enjoy your videos brother I bought one of the machines and greased it like you said it seems to work pretty good the only question I have for you is 1425 leather 45 ounce leather what is the thread that you should use that machine came with I think 92 or something like that and I just wondering what what thread you recommend to use if you happen to get a chance give me a holler
Thanks for the video! It is so helpful! I succeeded in dismanteling my machine and I want to clean the cast iron body. I found someone to sand blast it in cabinet but... I am not able to get the big open bearing out... Any idea or stategy on how I should tackle this?
I was able to pop mine out with a screw driver. After I remove the shaft, I took the screw driver on the back side to catch the back edge of the bearing, then hit the screw driver with a hammer. It took a few good wacks but I was able to get it out. You might have to work around the bearing to free it up. PB blaster or WD-40 helps to free it up too
I tried this video in reverse and don't understad what you saying, can you record audio in reverse and put as secondary track? Hahahaha :) Thanks for video!
Harrison, When the presser foot is situated for the leather to go away from me, the needle is centered between the presser foot. If I turn the presser foot 180 degrees, the needle is really close to the side of the presser foot. Is there an adjustment for this?
Would like to know where you get your Bobben and Bob. and Parts purchased a machine and they were smashedEnjoy watching your videos and help would be appreciated
mine came in pieces, I have to figure out how to put it together LOL also, I didn't get a "threading rod" nor did I get a stand, just figured that out watching the video
The stands that come with these machines are unstable and most people just throw them out. There are a couple good videos out on RUclips of people making wooden stands or attaching it to a table. For the threading rod you can make one out of some left over wire or you can order one here: www.bantamsaddletack.com/Threader-for-Chinese-Patcher-Sewing-Machine_p_56.html
Help. Subscribed. I disassembled the machine, polished all the parts, reassembled it by reversing everything in this video, and it runs quiet as a church mouse, but my walking foot does not walk. It stays in one spot and the needle goes through the same hole. What causes the walking foot to advance. It looks to me like the slotted short bar has a tapered bottom that the springs are supposed to pull the foot forward while the foot is in contact with the leather while the needle is in the up position. What did I do wrong to keep the foot stationary? You have an excellent series and I appreciate the time you have spent making it.
Hopefully this new video will help you out: ruclips.net/video/2tlT2prY8qg/видео.html If not feel free to send me a message and we can meet up on a video chat.
I took my machine apart after watching your video and got it all back together,at least I thought I did. My pressure foot no longer operated. It does not raise when I turn the pressure foot handle and it does not go up and down when I turn the handle. Do you know what’s,wrong? Thanks.
Glad I found you ! I have a question the 2 tension springs , well when I received mine I think mine is in the wrong place , so should I put it on the flat piece like yours ? Because where its at it doesn't make any sense to me ! I guess that's why the person sold it to me . Grease (black wheel grease) is all over it , so I'm wanting to try and fix it right ! Thank you for taking the time for us !
I know this is an older comment, but my machine was the same way "from the factory" with the two tensioning "disk things" seemingly too close together. I had exactly the same question you did about moving one of them. Did you move yours and how dod it work out for you? Thanks.
My machine wraps the top thread under the bobbin case and breaks the thread on the first revolution. --- (using normal thread ) If I thread it up with Berkley fireline fishing line it will sew - but not with normal thread -- Any ideas ?
Ether the timing is not set correctly or the needle bar needs to be adjusted further down. (Using normal thread) What size thread? Bonded nylon? What size is your needle?
@@MainelyAcresFarmBrooks thanks for the response-- I've got the needle post down even with the top--- the thread is 135 from bantam and also the lighter weight that came with the machine?? --- -- needle is what came on , size unknown --- the top thread is immediately jammed between the bobbin case and compartment wall or stuck under the case -- the opening in the bobbin case lines up perfectly with the needle as it starts back up
The needle that came with the machine is too small to run the 135, but it should run the thread that came with just fine. It sounds like the timing is set to the correct position. The only think I can think of is the needle bar depth. Maybe this will help: The issue may be that the needle driver depth is not set correctly. To ensure that your needle driver is in the correct location you’re going to place your index/pointer finger under the hole on the bottom side of the sewing arm. With your finger in place slowly move your flywheel in one complete rotation. If the needle comes through the hole and starts to drive into your finger you need to stop moving the flywheel or back your finger away from the hole. (I don’t want any negative comments with people piercing their fingers because they went to fast with the flywheel.) If that happens your needle driver is adjusted to low. You should only feel the tap of the needle when your needle drive is adjusted correctly. (When I say a tap I mean that you can feel the needle, but it does not hurt or poke through the skin. If you see blood then your needle is too low!!) If your finger is in place and you don’t feel anything; your needle driver is adjusted too high.
Thanks for your help--- could you send me a band aid ? -- just kidding -- got it sewing with your advice -- bantam provided the new needles--- thanks again !!

You can try adjusting the presser foot, but I don't think that will help because it starts centered. Sounds like a bent needle or needle driver.

It should be slightly bent
