As someone who loves to buy old machines and rebuild them to a level beyond the original specs, I really appreciate this video You sir are an amazing craftsman. I recently purchased one of these patchers and immediatly saw the potential for improvement. I would love to see a very slower video with some details about some of your observations. I see alot of really well thought out modifications and scratch built parts, that I would love to to know more about. Beautiful work
I rarely comment on videos but I am just blown away by how nice this build is! Such amazing craftsmanship on your part sir! Well done. Taking it from how it came to where you brought it, is just incredible!
Hi Sir, that was a pleasure to watch and the reconstruction build was a beautiful work of art and engineering at its finest. Thank you for sharing, keep up the good work.
This is what happens when you give a rough draft of a project to a machinist. Very well done. I had to do a double take to make sure that I was looking at the same machine
Thank you! I went into it with the thought that there's not much I could do to make it look any worse. lol! I hadn't really planned to go that far with it but it was so much fun I couldn't find a stopping place.
Props to an artist ... I have been involved with and viewed many projects similar to this one, but few were to the level of detail and craftsmanship that you've demonstrated with this patcher. Congrats on one fantastic job, cheers!!
OMG! You've proven you CAN make a silk purse out of a sow's ear! I'll bet you love the old stationary steam engines, too !!!!! Have you entertained making one of them, yet? That's an absolutely beautiful piece of work/art ! We would love to hear it in operation, also, with no background noise.
Aaaaaaaaaa….. I would love to place an order for one please!! OMG that’s what I’m talking about, good old American know how. That’s is a work of art, great job!!!
Yeah, but does it sew? .LOL! I am beginning to believe that there are people who buy this thing primarily to sew and others who buy it to tinker with and if it sees that”s a bonus. Either way, for the price, it’s all good. You are a brilliant machinist sir!
Very nice job at machining all Tahoe parts and improving the aesthetics of the machine. Beautiful job. I have 3 of these set up with different threads. One is motorized. Mine are moded heavily but not like yours. The biggest draw back of these machines is the lack of feed dogs. I like that it can sew in different directions but it does not even come close to my cylinder arm machine. The raceway bearings are also a weak point. Have you made mods on the bearings?
🤩Oh my goodness! I’ve watched several of these rebuilds. And some have really been good. But this is by far the absolute BEST!!! You sir are a true craftsman! Can I send mine to you? Name your price!
Beautiful! Did you simply move the motor from the plastic housing and fabricate a custom bracket? I assume it was a plastic housing. Looks much better without it.
Beautiful ! That the way to do 👏, those Chinese machines got some good raw materials and price but in did need to be "refurbished/finished", at the end if it's do it right (or awesome, like you do), you got quite an industrial, inmortal machine and a unique pice of art, thanks for share.
I am working on a work table like that, with a few difference. I don't have all those tools for cutting and welding, so most of it will have to be bolted together. Thank you for sharing.
I concur with all of praise you’ve received on this build! I own two of these, and my biggest question is why you didn’t install bearings on the inner cam like they put on the outer one?
so interested in doing this myself... have all the tools. wondering how much you kept? anything besides the frame? And what was the reason to use chain and sprocket? Why not direct drive? Beautiful work.
I used the chain drive so I could build the ratcheting mechanism into the hub because I wanted to be able to use the hand crank as well as the motor...which has an electronic brake.
So I THINK that the original machine was called a Global model 9929, because I have seen facsimiles of its service booklet, and those images seem to me to be interchangeable with this Chinese ‘clone’. Now I too own one of these, having discovered some great deal of nasty, dirty, oil, rust, and bits of tiny shrapnel. The screws are so soft I’d actually say they are mushy, so those are gonna need to go. Other than the very loose and dirty post fabrication that left mine basically unprepared to be finished, was finished anyways, and they went ahead and gave it their coating that only enhances the unfinished state of the thing. So now after seeing how far you’ve stripped yours, I wonder after how much time of using this thing and learning it’s in’s and outs would I finally be willing to risk tearing this down to give it that same sort of attention and replace so much of it - still confident that I’ll even be able to get the thing back together and operational once again? Really cool ideas you’ve shared here, I thank you!!
Hay que entender que los chinos si pueden hacer algo así y hasta mejor solo que sería incomparable...de modo que para ser asequible lo hacen así rudimentario
This tutorial is great, but I packed mine up and sent it back. I spent hours trying to get mine to work properly, in addition to watching many “how to” videos. Oh, I had it all bolted together and threaded properly, but the thread would keep snapping after every few stitches. I’m not a mechanic or engineer, I just wanted to enjoy leather craft as a fun hobby. It’s easier to just stitch it by hand. My view is that if I have to take a machine apart and rebuild it, then I shouldn’t have to pay over $100.00 for it.
You Sir took a D+ project and turned it into an A+. Any chance you'd put together a video showing the rest of us how best to go about turning this machine into a solid C/C+
Really cool upgrades. The only thing I saw that I would do differently is that chain final drive. I would use a belt instead. Why? well if (Heaven forfend) anything at the business end jams up, a belt will slip while a chain will continue to apply force, likely increasing the damage. While the probability of a jam up may be low, good old Murphy is always lurking in the wings!😁
Wonderful craftsmanship! How much would you say it cost you to build this fantastic unit? Did you sell these machines? I own one of the units and would love it to look and function like this!
Fantastic job but I see you greased the am & rollers. The rollers should be allowed to "roll" as opposed to "skidding" on the grease, chasing them to flat spot & muck up tolerances to ect.
well done video ,fast no bs,,just the way it should be. could you go through the electrical work, what size motor and how is your peddle feed set up,i see a box. thanks for sharing man.
This is a piece of art Wow! But not many people have the skill or the equipment to do that and now that cobbler of 125$ become one that would sell for as much as a regular shoe patcher by looking at the quality of the work. How that machine would compare with a regular shoe patcher. Could you still unmount the cobbler from the big heavy stand if you want to make it portable again? Because the reason for buying those Chinese cobbler is to save money and carry them, it mostly defeats the purpose. I agree with other people, the best ever seen.
Thanks for the video. I need HELP! My walking foot doesn't walk. The upside down U shaped piece barely moves left and right. So I followed that part to the other end, to the base. That arm has very little space from the end to the base. Also, one of those rotating levers at the base doesn't even press against that arm which is part of the U shaped piece. It's like the machine is damaged or I put it together wrong. Are both of these levers supposed to touch a metal arm?
WOW that’s amazing what u did to ur sewing machine .. I’m looking on purchasing one my self I was thinking on putting a some type of motor on it but when I seen yours I was like WOW .. have you ever thought about selling any parts for the sew machine just like the one got right there ..
Wow ohhh wow💞💗🥰Beautiful work. I have this Chinese cobbler machine. So afraid to open the box. As all reviews say you need to file clean up etc. I would love to learn. Those who can teach. I'm so inspired. I'm in London UK. Would love your advice and help. To turn my dream into my reality.
Excellent outcome, it looks brilliant... on a practical outlook - it is a complete waste of time and effort as the time and effort and cost involved could buy a high end sewing machine. but it is clearly done for the pleasure of the process and the beautiful result, for that, i applaud your effort
I would love to see better details of parts of the machine especially the replaced thread tensioning arm.. Great idea on the sprocket to belt configuration.
What a cool video. Is there anywhere I can get replacement parts? I'm looking for a new Pressing foot. Mine broke. If anyone could give me info, I would appreciate it. Thank you.
You done a amazing job on this 150.00 machine and I would like to offer you your money back and I'll pay shipping. Just a guess on the shipping cost should be around 40.00 so I can enclose a check for 190.00 . If the shipping is more I will get square with you on it, if it's less you can keep it.
That's a Gr8 modification. I assume you encourage a Guard over those pulley and Chain. Would look BriLL if you'd design one out of Transparent PLastic similar to the type used in Caravan Windows. With an adequate thickness this can be very strong and wont shatter under vibration etc.
Hi rlndl66, First of all, wow. I didn't know I could be so attracted to a machine... : ) and secondly, what kind of grease were you using? I just tore mine down (no modifications, except intense polishing on anything that contacts other metal) and want to get it right going back together. It won't look like that lil' beauty, but I'm hoping it will run smoothly.
Watched again after two years. I wouldn't call this a custom rebuild, that's too mundane. I'd call it a work of art! Beautiful.
As someone who loves to buy old machines and rebuild them to a level beyond the original specs, I really appreciate this video

Looking beautiful, gotta love the maker spirit!
WOW... That's all I can say. This thing is beautiful. I love all the detail. The stand, the brass, everything. Well done!

This is what happens when you give a rough draft of a project to a machinist. Very well done. I had to do a double take to make sure that I was looking at the same machine
Dude's got some badass engineering and fabrication skills. Well done! I just got one of these and was looking to doll her up some.
Almost no prototype. The most crazy sewing machine. you are a genius
That is a deeply pleasing video. Wow. I'm a fair hand in the shop but you make me feel like a 7th grader making an ashtray in pottery class!
Thank you! I went into it with the thought that there's not much I could do to make it look any worse. lol! I hadn't really planned to go that far with it but it was so much fun I couldn't find a stopping place.
@@rlndl66 Now you have to send all your parts to China and have them build your machine to specs. Then we can have one. Beautiful work!
Props to an artist ... I have been involved with and viewed many projects similar to this one, but few were to the level of detail and craftsmanship that you've demonstrated with this patcher. Congrats on one fantastic job, cheers!!
absolutely amazing build. You have taken this machine to a whole other universe..
"To another LeveL" or "WhoLe New Level".
Other Habituated Universes may not have ELectricity.
What a craftsman. Wow. What a work of art. Beautiful!
OMG! You've proven you CAN make a silk purse out of a sow's ear! I'll bet you love the old stationary steam engines, too !!!!! Have you entertained making one of them, yet? That's an absolutely beautiful piece of work/art ! We would love to hear it in operation, also, with no background noise.
I was looking for a part of the machine that you didn’t rebuild or fabricate. I finally found it. The needle.
Aaaaaaaaaa….. I would love to place an order for one please!! OMG that’s what I’m talking about, good old American know how. That’s is a work of art, great job!!!

hi Robert, it's fantastic custom!!! congratulation... have you a link or contact for explain the project or buy the kit ?

Even if I am a woman. I love to watch these kinds of tradesmen. Yet again beautiful work SIR!!!
Thank you!
Super cool! I just got one of these for Christmas and I can't wait to mount it up and get it stitching

A retired machinist with a master's degree in fine art!
THE best rebuild video yet! Can you add one sewing something (leather, denim, upholstery)?
Holy crap! You damn sure knocked the ugly off of that thing! Damn fine work, sir.
Wonderful job ... no doubt. A chain and belt guard would be nice additions.
Nice work, hands down. Clean. Never sewed a stitch.
Excellent, would be nice to see some more information on the bar that holds the bobbin
Absolutely outstanding build!!!!!
Yes its a work of art, very nice but i think the modification is more expensive than the chinese sewing machine. Tnx for sharing
That's a work of art!! Loved it
That thing looks absolutely beautiful. I am curious how much time and money you have tied up in that sewing machine
I bought mine to save myself some money...
It looks like you bought one to spend yours.
Nice build my friend.
🤩Oh my goodness! I’ve watched several of these rebuilds. And some have really been good. But this is by far the absolute BEST!!! You sir are a true craftsman! Can I send mine to you? Name your price!
All it needs now is some gold leaf labeling and some hot rod pinstriping
Beautiful! Did you simply move the motor from the plastic housing and fabricate a custom bracket? I assume it was a plastic housing. Looks much better without it.
Amazing , i want one of those! looks beautiful and well engineered
I am sure you can sell them

Turning a hundred dollar machine into a thousand dollar machine. brilliant.
Very nice build!
What a work of art. Ive been wanting a singer 29 for a while now. Now i kinda want one of yours instead.
Un freaking believable. Stunning
Nice job. Best I've seen so far.

so perfect。from china。

did you polish the sewing machine ? If so what did you use and did you have any tolerances you had to watch?
I don't need a rich man I need this man
Agreed a work of art!

👍👍👍 BRAVO!!!!!!!!!!
Beautiful wonderful machine, I have one from china, but it is very simple.
Greetings. Maybe you can assist me. The bobbin thread is getting tangled and I’m not sure how to correct it. I haven’t even been able to use it.
A quick question if you're still watching the replies: are the arms scratch built or did you rework the original ones? They look scratch built.
Hi Bob, Yes they are scratch built. I used the old ones to get the hole location.
Do you make rebuild kits of everything but the motorized parts? Like new arms, slides etc? I would purchase a rebuild kit
Do you make and sell any of the parts?
So why not start from scratch ?
I just looked on Amazon and there are about 8 to 10 different makes on there. Anybody know which one is best?
That's a Gr8 modification. I assume you encourage a Guard over those pulley and Chain. Would look BriLL if you'd design one out of Transparent PLastic similar to the type used in Caravan Windows. With an adequate thickness this can be very strong and wont shatter under vibration etc.
