Thank you for making the video, I have one of these machines and I like it, I find it user-friendly and easily customizable and modifiable, these machines are manufactured to the bare minimum to just get them working, they definitely need to be cleaned polished and greased, in the all have their own quirks, I've made a couple of videos showing what I've done to my machine, and I am always interested in seeing what other people have done to their machines and what they are doing with them, thanks 👍🏻😊
Thank you look for the next video yours helped me I just got and I’m excited to use it to show me that it can do the job that I’m looking forward to do
You are going to love it. Spend some time seeing how it works as it may need some adjustments. Check Mainely Acres for a video on threading needle, loading bobbin and aligning cams if needed.
@@glockstitch Surprise, it was just delivered today. Now to spend the next week cleaning all the cosmoline off of it and get it polished up so it can be used.

Instead of a headlamp, look up the magnetic sewing machine LED lights. Can stick it to the machine and put light right where you want it. Works a treat on a reloader for ammo as well.
Another way you can back stitch is just by flipping your walking foot. So if you have a big item that you can't swing around backwards, you can just flip that walking foot and it will walk backwards; It will walk in any direction.
I bought this machine a couple months ago..the problem I have (I use it mainly for sewing patches on caps) is that I get over half way around and it starts skipping stitches and then will not pick up the bobbin thread even though it isn't broken. Has this ever happened to anyone else?
For a back stitch, do what you did when turning corners. Plant the needle all the way down (wheel at 6 oclock) before turning, otherwise you can skip a stitch.
Spare parts for these sewing machines can be found at Bantam Saddle and tack, courtesy of Harrison Hightower. He has some awesome information on RUclips.
With this sewing machine can you please show me in a video how to sew two ends together with one peace of leather by folding the ends together then sewing them together .
For 8 to 9 oz veg taN LEATHER NEEDS THREAD SIZE 277 BUT THIS MACHINE WONT HANDLE 277 THREAD. ANY SUGGESTIONS , I'M TOLD THAT 138 SIZE IS THE BIGGEST THREAD YOU CAN USE. I WILL ORDER SOME MORE BOBBIN SHUTTLES AND THE ONE WITH THE GEAR ON THE BOTTOM AND WORK ON THEM WITH FINE EMERY CLOTH TO INCREASE THE TOLLERANCE TO BE ABLE TO USE 277 THREAD.
@@jeffallen3382 I havent done it yet but i plan on polishing the bobbin shuttle to hopefully open up the tollerance enough to accept 277 thread. i make and have a hugh backlog of holsters to make, if done by hand i will be very busy till after the new year.
Whats the length of the stitch, normally, without extending or minimizing the length ?! I want to buy one of this machines, but i cant find the normal length.
Hi, that’s a lovely simple machine, thanks for showing. The benefit of a long arm and small baseplate is that you can get to the middle of a big piece of canvas etc to sew a patch but it’s also harder to control straight lines than a regular sewing machine. Can I suggest maybe adding a small smooth block on the base plate next to the foot as a guide for edge sewing so your piece can run up against it. It needs to be lower than the thickness of your piece and it could be held with a clamp. Also, have you thought about making a simple treadle so you can use both hands? Maybe something like a pole lathe treadle with a bungee to a point above. The flywheel’s so big, I reckon if the cord from the handle down to the treadle board was offset to the side the flywheel would carry on past the bottom and be pulled up past tdc by the bungee. PS. I think for backstitch you rotate the whole sewing head clockwise with a thumb lever at the bottom.
The easiest way to backstitch is 1.make sure needle is down 2.raise pressure foot 3.using the wing nuts above the pressure foot, rotate cylinder till pressure foot is facing the other way 4.put foot back down and sew You can also sew "sideways" or 90* by turning cylinder 1/4 turn so foot turns 1/4 ? Now I just got the machine yesterday so I may be wrong. If I messing up machine, please tell me.
Hey there, I just bought myself one of this the other week and i was setting it up this weekend. i keep having a problem with the threat snapping. Both the thread i bought along side the machine and the fishing line like thread are snapping. My booin has also stopped working even though it has thread in it. Any idea on what i need to do?
@ Papa Dragon were you able to get it going? My timing was a little off and I needed to sand my bobbin carrier down and was also advised to put a slight bevel to the bottom edge of the carrier. Once I did that and adjusted cam and rod it works great.
Thanks I found the amazon parts numbers, but neither one showed needles over 18 . I would like a variety pack that includes 20 thru 24 with a flat shank. I follow your site and mainly acres ,you're both awesome.
Can thos machine sew 270 thread with a 23 needle? I just bought this for leather work and cant get it to sew without tearing the thread on the first punch, I'm new to all this and lookin for a little guidance. Thanks
As a manufacturer of belts can I suggest . Pre hole your stitch area. I.e stitch it first without thread to make holes then when you use the thread thers less wear on the thread. Hope that makes sense..
@@cluek9780 when i make belts from a 4mm shoulder hide i do it with a heavy Seiko needle/ foot feed machine have made them for years but with this thing as its hand powered the needle should find the pre hole easily. Also use round point needles not chisel point..

Hi , I am having a certain problem that I cannot fix at all. When I go to sew my stitching is not tight at all , and can basically just be pulled out. I believe that the bobbin isn’t pulling in the upper thread at all , where by the upper thread is just sitting at the top and can slide out of the material very easily. I have tried adjusting the tension in the bobbin but nothing works , please help!!!
You have another adjuster on the very bottom.Get a mirror, and aim it under the left end of the machine. There is a gear in there. There is a metal plate with 2 screws.Unscrew and inspect that area with a flashlight. There is a hangnail in there sometimes, that can be filed off.(on the metal plate)The gear has to mesh with the housing that holds the bobbin case.Mine wasn't moving at all,so we are going to sand the case some, and adjust the gear at the very bottom,so that it will advance properly.Sometimes, there is no clearance for those parts to move,so you will have to carefully sand everything that moves to make it work well.Hope this helps!
Can I use waxed thread ? If so, which needle ? I really like the look of the heavy thread and the thinner threads are usually not waxed. Great video !!
I can see the needle are 110/18 and the thread are heavy duty but how do I know if the thread will fit in the needle ? What the size of the thread you are using ?
Check to make sure that the needle is centered in the slot under the bobbin plate. My needle shaft was a little bent and I had to pull it out and put it on a flat metal surface and tap it gently with a small hammer. Check Roll it back and forth to make sure it is straight Check your walking foot also if you have not made any modifications to your machine. It is poorly manufactured.
