I've never seen a ham cooked that way. You put the flat side down and put the foil over the ham but you secure it on the sides of the pan. That prevents it from dying out. Before you glaze it you flip it over so the glaze drips into the spiral cuts.
Me neither. I like to buy Honey Baked...less hassle. But...spending 2/3 LESS for a Costco Ham is worth some extra work on my part🤑. I found a recipe on YT that calls for 350 F for 2-3 hrs. I'll compare it to the Costco pamphlet.
Thank you. I've been making this Ham for years. Initially I baked it on its side and covered the pan in foil. I tlstarted making it flat side down and it's week great but I feel like it loses a lot of the glaze. I'll start flipping it to the side for glazing this year.
Thank you for this video and to the viewer who commented that it should be baked flat side down and sealed in tented foil to keep it from drying. I bought this product this morning and will be cooking for lunch on Christmas Day tomorrow, but the instructions are missing from the package. So thank goodness i searched and found checked out this video today, so i know i need to befin the initial baking of mine at 8:30 am tomorrow morning.
I cook it flat side down, I also use pineapple juice instead of water and throw some pineapple in the bottom of the pan those last 10 minutes. Delicious!!
Do you mean pineapple juice in the glaze mix? 😋 Just wanted to make sure I do it right! I usually make the glaze like he does, but I brush each of the sections with it (not just brushing it on like he did) since there's so much glaze included..and hey. why not? 😆
Yea I'm cooking one right now in a baking bag. At the 90 min mark it was only 56 degrees. Wow thats why I watched your video. I cranking up the heat to 350. it's rising faster now. Thanks for the video!
Hey Chef dog we just bought this one from Costco just a bit ago. We are making this tomorrow so this is great that you actually made a video of this ham.
@@ChefDawg Yeah I watched it. And after watching your video I was so confused on where the stupid instructions were at. lol. You tear the lable off and its behind the lable. Lol. And I was too late but I set the timer for 2 and a half hours like you did. I hope I don't mess it up. I have never had to baked a ham before in my 44 years. I have baked a turkey though. The first time I did a turkey I had the thing upside down. But would you know it that the turkey was really moist. It came out pretty good even though I put it upside down. I should be fine with this ham that is already pre cooked. I hope I don't over cook it lol.
Thanks for the video. I have two of these to cook for an event tomorrow. This will gave me some insight on how I’m going to do mine. Doing mine on the pellet smoker covered. Think I’ll try mine at 325 and split the difference. Definitely going to get a little earlier start than originally planned just in case.
@@ryankillpatrick I just cooked mine. If you put the ham flat down at 275 for 2hrs, and ~10mins on 425 it came out perfectly to 140 internal for me… this video should probably amended.
@@robbiemcbobbie8030 I was amazed! my apartment smelled like my mom's house! and the ham looked like the commercials! But I tell you what, I totally forgot to place it flat-side down and it DID end up taking me longer than suggested. Plus I ended up trying to use the package glaze which didn't crust up like I hoped. But for a ROUND ONE try...way better than I hoped! I'll try again for New Years with your suggestions and see if I can make it happen! happy holidays!
Wow.. I'm glad you said that, because I just put one (same kind as he has) in the oven and I put mine in like you do, I saw someone on tv or somewhere cooking it that way... THANKS1
SERIOUSLY?! Loved how you talked about "1" way of cookin it...oh an the part where you were like see...when ya took the plastic part away..SAID NO ONE EVER
@@ChefDawg I really like to use the glazing brush to separate each section and brush each piece lightly when it's time to glaze them.. Those guys LOVED the glaze and by giving each of the sliced pieces a light brushing, YUM... it's so moist and flavorful. SO glad you mentioned those updated temperature directions b'cas wow... 275 degrees was taking forever. I haven't cooked one of those in eons which is why I wound up on here.. 😆 I have one in the oven right now (it's only 4:50 pm up in Anchorage) right now... 😋🐷 THANKS!!
Hey Chef Dawg! I appreciated the additional editing that you did in this video. Next time I’d suggest turning down the music. I liked it being there, but there are moments it’s as loud as your voice and it got distracting when it should just be in the background.
I know, its just a hard for me to know what volume sound is at and ever since we got a new mic its been harder for me...putting in the music is the most stressful thing.
@@ChefDawg some people are so critical. The video was perfect! Baking a Kirkland ham this year and plan on covering it with heavy duty foil to help keep it from drying out.
My son and I do the best we can... love doing it... mainly because it's his passion and as a dad you only get a few chances like this so I'm running with it.
Your not a chef . Get that stupid chef smock off. I’ve cooked probably 5 of these in the past . All were perfect. Why, I cooked them flat side down. I tried it on the side this time as you did and it dried the ham bone dry.
@@ChefDawg oh ya... I liked the video. I flipped to your channel with the sound blue toothed to truck speaker... Skird me... I turned down sound... After I dug the wedgie out....
@@ChefDawgYou did follow the instructions on label. I watched your video because the 275 degrees seemed very low. I watched your video up to the point when you put it into the oven. I did kind of question you laying the ham on the side instead of the bone side down. My ham was 10.5 lbs. I set the timer for 2 hours and 15 minutes. Took it out to add the glazed and it was barely warm.❤ Had to postpone dinner for over an hour. Had I watched your entire video, I would have cranked up the heat.. I cranked up the heat to 350 and it was pretty dry for an additional 45 minutes, glazed it--and it was pretty dry. So, I added pineapple juice, brown sugar and the pineapple chunks, and it was delicious! Thank you so much for this video! You did a great job!

For real.... whoever they got their cooking instructions from must have been using a 4 pounder.

Took 3 hours

@@ChefDawg thanks! Just watched it. Very helpful!
This video was really comical.😂😂
Glad you liked!!!
The refrigeration temperature needs to be accounted for.
Maybe use an oven bag instead of foil, prop it on a rack on a sheet.
Also make sure the foil is not the heavy duty kind, the shiny part inside.
I wonder if Chef's oven needs calibrating?
Awesome! Great video!!!
Thanks!!
I love your video I’m making this for Christmas. I hope I do it as good as you, since you’ll be here eating it🥰

The thermometer you can leave it in ham while cooking ,not the reader run wire out off oven door close oven, should be 10 minutes a #@350

275 is too low, I also would take the foil off at the end so it isn't soggy.
You are right. Mine turned out soggy so I’m putting it in the oven at 300degrees for another two hours. It’s a 20lb ham.

There were no directions for the Costco ham I bought. I will not buy again.

Put it a crockpot on low for 4 hours, done!!!!!!
How'd it turn out?
Supposed to cook it bone side up, ham flat down….
FLAT SIDE DOWN
