Enjoyed that, great comentary from Claude. Funny watching Rick 'itching' to try out everything Claude was saying, only for Claude to say 'No Ball' and Rick looking so dissapointed to have to do a drill without a ball.
Honestly? I think that is the best golf video I’ve ever seen, and my God I’ve seen an awful lot. Haven’t we all?! I’m sure this is an eye opening revelation to 95% of us. Absolute credit to Claude for doing this. His focus and single mindedness to have Rick concentrate on what he is saying is one of the things that makes him the coach he is - no deviation, even when his Dad was walking past! Full credit to you Rick for putting yourself in such a vulnerable place for us all to see. The way you took it all on board and came out at the other end to fix your swing issues says a lot about who you are. Brilliant watch.
Yeah, thinking the same, gives us good thought/practice tips. I’m sure it’s a win for Harmon too who has all that expensive tech setup to give great bio data. Man, it’s the next step up from launch monitors measuring ball/club data..... to actual body movement. Wish we had this offering over here
Totally agree. This also shows how import this pressure mat is. Golf swing happens in matter of seconds and even though the coach is filming you on the phone, how likely is it that he would spot this very minor "wrong" weight shift?
Listening to Claude talk about in the pod finding the one big problem of the golf swing and fixing that, and then actually getting to see it is really cool.
Would love to see Rick do a video with Marcus at Zen. Seems like the drills and aids used by Marcus are just what Rick needs and fit with the recommendations made here by Harmon. This was an excellent video and would be a great companion video to one with Marcus.
You can tell what a genius Claude is by making complex changes & tweaks sound so simple and easy to understand. Incredible content Rick…well deserved, but man you’re one lucky dude to have had that lesson 👍
So many people understand complex concepts in the golf swing, the very best teachers can explain them so simply its crazy. You can tell just from this video why Claude is one of the best
Its like I have just had a lesson with Claude there. This is why you create such good content. You have so many strings to your bow. Roll on the 2023 YT catalogue!!
I watched this video three times. Once for entertainment, twice to get the information and try it, third to make sure I have the right information because it was mind blowing. This is exactly what I needed
The speed at which Claude was able to figure out the issue is unreal. I’ve wasted so much money on lessons over the years with not a tenth of the insight that Claude produced in 15 secs. Absolutely incredible!!!!
Wow this was incredible. Rick, your ability to go from leader/coach imparting knowledge on to others to being able to soak in knowledge from someone like Claude or Dan Whittaker is what makes for such great content. Love these videos, can't wait for the one with Brad Faxon
This seems like the trip of a life time for Rick. He's done so much and played such different courses and interacted with so many high level golf professionals.
Oops. Someone missed the 'beep' @12:46 😅 Love this Rick. Your 'issues' are exactly my issues - just not keeping that pressure moving forward. So, your Claude Harmon lesson is my Claude Harmon lesson. Thanks for the freebie 😁, I can't afford his old rates, let alone this new "extra zero and comma" one 😉 P.S. @RickShielsGolf, just remember, don't use this lesson to change your driver swing 😋
What an absolute legend! So incredibly professional. This man has given thousands of lessons and still brings the passion, the energy, and the enthusiasm!
"No Ball".... Such a good reminder that these drills and feels need to be mastered away from the ball. We're all guilty of rushing into it after a couple of rehearsals, and we're not all filming 20 mins yt videos.
Everything Claude talks about is relevant to, not just scratch golfers, but to all golfers. And so easy to understand. Super vid. Nice to see Butch too.
Unless someone is already doing those things but feels like they aren't so they start overdoing it. Lessons are individualized. What works for one may destroy another
This video and the Brad Faxon putting video are probably the most helpful golf videos I've watched on YT. It looked like you were a having the time of your life in America. More like this please Rick.
Fantastic, discovered an insight into the true golf swing and also how hard it is to separate the wheat from the chaff with regards to purported on-line golf instructors😍😍
I've watched your content for the better part of a decade and enjoyed pretty much all of it, and this was the best I can remember. We've all seen your swing and tendencies for years, and Claude's drills and how he worked you through the paces and helped you tackle your gremlins was fascinating.
And just to think most golfers (me included) think the game is hitting the ball with a stick. We know the game is technical because basically its body physics but when you see a professional instructor relaying the information to a qualified professional who with all respect Rick looked partially lost at intervals it tells you something. This game we all love is more than a stick, swing ball, its a bloody hard hobby to have and which I have been telling non golfers for some 30 years. But yet when it is explained it does make sense. Great video as was the BF putting lesson. I always tell starters, get yourself lessons and keep them going. My instructors were tour pros playing on the telly and trying to imitate their swings.
Went from a 25 to a 5 after this video😂. In all seriousness, this was a great video and as a mid handicap, a really good lesson. Rick, I appreciate as others have mentioned, you putting yourself out there on camera to benefit not just you, but others. I enjoy your channel and always have fun watching your absolute enthusiasm with the game we all love.
I have a similar problem to you as I don't transfer my weight very well and tend to hit thin shots despite playing off 5 so this has been very useful. Thanks
Best lesson I've seen from a top teacher!! Any golfer can benefit from this material! One additional comment: don't lose your tempo! Rick gets quick; he needs to keep it a little slower (smooth) and he will play some really good golf!
This is honestly one of the most insightful and best videos I have watched to do with golf. Simple techniques I have never seen before. Yes we all know to get weight forward, but as you probably thought your weight was forward, it clearly showed it wasn’t until you tried a few push strokes forward. So simple yet so effective. I hope to shoot a pb next round and love golf even more than I already do
If you won’t a insightful videos, When you get a min. Look up a guy channel called zen golf mechanics. you won’t be disappointed. That where he’s got the board idea from. 👍
It’s very good when you said Sometimes I put the ball out front making you go forward I was also doing this last week 9 iron ball forward making you go forward with the swing
Thanks again Rick for some fabulous content. I loved both Claude and Brads Podcasts, and cant wait to see the putting lesson you have with Brad. This particular video was just superb, and I cant wait to try some of these drills. I absolutely loved Claude's passion for teaching, and his use of basic teaching tools and technology was fascinating. Cant wait to see how your golf progresses in 2023.
I have exactly the same issues re inconsistent striking. I watched this video, then spent an hour in the back garden doing the zero and half swing drills. Unbelievable. Awesome tips. The best I've seen.
As I've decided to get back into golfing again I've came across your channel. While this particular video is great with loads of info. I will is it all season for reference point to hon my our game.
Thanks so much for this Rick, it’s really insightful. This is something I’ve been working on with my own coach, just with a different language, and perspective, but this different communication method really helps with my own understanding of what the coach is trying to get me to do. Good luck with the improvements.
Claude’s got a new fan. Loved the podcast too. Seems like such a down to earth guy that is so passionate about golf. I’d do a lot to get a lesson from him. Way to go Rick!
I think u should watch and practice that everyday and you would qualify for “ The Open”. That might be one of the greatest 25 minutes of golf instruction I’ve ever seen! Worth every penny!
Just watching this tells me this is a habit I have too - which is why I’m not getting a consistent strike except off the tee. I find it extremely fascinating and so good to watch the actual application of not just the tech, but being able to actively replicate and adjust it and see it in action - fantastic stuff
just don't overdue all these lessons, you learn so many new things that you can't take them to the course and revert to what you have been doing. keep it up!
Should've listened (read) what i wrote to you here 2 years or more ago about EXACTLY all this in ur swing.... been doing it a number of times .... GLAD to see u finally doing it kiddo ;))))
I think if you wore some looser shorts you could get more blood flow to your lower bits. Great Video Rick. Nice to see you're like us. That you need to be reminded about the basics.
I have a feeling that after this lesson, you will have to change the name of the game to break 70 because 75 will not be an issue anymore. I'm loving it Rick, keep it up!!
Pretty much the best instructional video I've seen. CH3 would have picked up the weight transfer issue without the tech, but the tech certainly helps to hammer the point home.
Excellent, funnily enough I have the exact same problem as Richard and similarly I can hit the driver great but struggle with the irons. Great work Claude.
What a great video, great insight on how things work with your swing and how he will change you game have watched this 3 times already it like getting a free lesson from one of the best in the world looming g forward to see how it improves your game and hopefully mine once again great content
So good to see a golf professional needing and getting an important golf improvement lesson. It shows how amateur golfers could use a refresher lesson every once in a while. Now get started fixing the 1 million things Rick!
Unbelievable video Rick thanks for bringing us along a lesson with such an intelligent coach. He so clearly gets the swing and how to translate it to the average player. One question I had is when he says you have a more lateral swing rather than rotational. But then he says try to feel like you’re moving all the way to your left on the downswing. Is he saying left relative to the target or relative to where you’re facing at setup? Wouldn’t trying to get all the way to your left somewhat promote that lateral movement he’s trying to get rid of? I have the same problem and want to make sure I’m looking for the right feel before compounding the problem. Thanks to anyone who has insight on this!
Amazing to see that one bad swing element effect so much....clubface....head position.......swing path and balance. So cool for Claude to take the time with you so we can also benefit. Great stuff.
Any one else here a fan of zen golf mechanics? The board the pressure mat. Get yaself up to donny Rick, would be the greatest golf vid ever for myself. 👍
What an teriffic inside into the golfswing and what your body does before and after impact. It gave me so much new information which I can use myself to understand what happens if the ball goes to the left what I have done wrong and how I can correct it. The way Claud explained everything, it is understandable for everyone. Great video, keep up the good work.
It’s a great lesson on weight distribution and movement. Funnily enough Iv seen a clip of your own teaching a simplified lesson on this. Just place a blade of grass or a T an inch forward of the ball and aim to take the T as the bottom point, all weight forward! Very clever tho, loved it!
As said below probably the best golf lesson I have seen. Pete Cowan/ Danny Maude does not have a patch on this. The tools CH3 uses, his tone, his feedback, his positivity, every coach needs to adopt - love that!

Ditto!
Only if they apply to your particular swing issues. Otherwise you're likely to create more issues
This is basically ZEN Golf Mechanic teaching with the weight transfer and the board he is using. Great stuff.
Would love to see Rick do a video with Marcus at Zen. Seems like the drills and aids used by Marcus are just what Rick needs and fit with the recommendations made here by Harmon. This was an excellent video and would be a great companion video to one with Marcus.
Was looking for this comment. Started watching zen last summer and went from 22 handicap to 12 with no silly swing thoughts.
Thanks gents. That was awesome!
