      well honestly, not to "undertstand" them. A high handicap player can actually understand the meaning, but he wont be able to put it into action. the mechanic of swing must be very clear already. The difference here is simple: most players, not low handicap, dont hit the ball by putting pressure on it from above. Most players think they have to "push" the ball ahead. That's wrong. Once you start realizing the real meaning of "putting pressure" on it, and start creating different impacts and divots, you can understand the real meaning of this lesson.

    • @thenextgreat8652
      @thenextgreat8652 10 месяцев назад +3

      @@MrCatsailor My best answer as this worked for me, is to focus on the “squeezing the towel” example. In relation to the grip, you’re not necessarily ringing out water from a towel because the grip pressure would be too tight. However, that same opposing motion in the hands done lightly is what keeps the club face square and it feels like the hands are connected throughout the swing. The “aha” moment for me was noticing that in my backswing, my hands were rolling in the same direction which resulted in the club face being wide open. At that point, everything else becomes hand eye coordination and the club can’t do what it’s intended to do. As I’m far from the expert here and just letting you know how it clicked for me, just pretend you didn’t read this if it doesn’t resonate with you as we all grasp things differently 😉

My positions at take away and at the top of my backswing were already pretty good, but his comments about equal opposing forces in the grip was transformational for me since it keeps my wrist flat through impact. Also, his simple recommendation of firing solely from the left shoulder has taken my right side out of the downswing, as it should be. On my first time out to hit balls and then play after watching the video and practicing at home, my shots were more solid and on line with my intended target.

    Saw this on Friday night and practiced the principles that Pete shared and the next morning shot the best game of my life on a difficult course which I played only the second time. First time I finished with the same ball and hit most my shots where I wanted it to go with no wild shots to either the left or right. Face control allowed me to hit the most greens in reg and was in less trouble than usual. Kept getting praises how easy I seem to be hitting the ball with no effort but getting it long and straight.. everything that Pete touched on is trully an eye opener from the grip to how the club should work on the downswing. Thank ypu so much for this excellent video!

    I’ve been playing for most of my life (I’m 56) and am a mid single digit handicapper. Therefore, I am highly skeptical of “new” swing methods. What sold me straight away was how quiet James was. This is a guy who knows golf and if the gears in his head were moving that much then I knew there was something here. Like most of the other comments here, I’ve watched this video multiple times. It has so much info in such a short amount of time that I want to absorb it.

    Thank you for sharing this with us James! That was definitely a master’s class. In an upcoming video could you teach us what he was having you do in the fingers (opposing force) during the backswing? I didn’t quite pickup on the exact mechanics of that.

    • @fedup3449
      @fedup3449 2 года назад +13

      If I understood him, think of the club grip as the towel. Twist the fingers of each hand inwards against the twist of the other hand. This wrings the handle, increases control of the clubhead and locks the shoulders in. The whole lot together creates more consistent striking.

      You cannot miss when you swing with your hands opposing and you strike the ball, it's uncanny!

    • @Dreyno
      @Dreyno Год назад +1

      Think of a “Chinese Burn”. As you’re looking down, twist your left hand clockwise and your right hand anti-clockwise. Not excessively. Just enough to feel your grip stronger than before. You’re not looking to strangle the club. Just hold it as normal and then move each hand around 1cm. You’ll feel it when it’s right. You’ll instantly feel your grip strengthening without the need to grip harder. Once you get it, you will have a stronger grip that doesn’t need grip strength or conscious effort.

      Start by looking at your backswing in a mirror, and place the triangle of your arms, so you can see your shoulder in that triangle, then make adjustments for a fade, higher and draw lower. It's a start, lol.

    I came across your videos by chance the other day and I’m hooked finding them both entertaining and informative in equal measure. As others have commented the lesson with Mr Cowens was an eye opener. I’m 67 and until two years ago played off 9 but now crept up to 11 having lost distance and a draw! Having watched the video I went straight to the driving range to put into effect his teaching. My yardage and draw are back. So many thanks for putting this out online. I would ask for a follow up to see how to fade the ball 🤞as I couldn’t quite see how this is done. Regards.

    I’ve started playing golf again this year after a 10+ year hiatus, and I’ve seen this video at least 10 times since it was posted. I keep finding gems that didn’t click for me in previous viewings. Initially, I was trying very hard to understand the mechanics of it, but what’s resonating with me the most after a season under my belt is the last bit about practicing without the ball, where you focus on the right movements instead of trying to beat the ball with the same deficient swing. I’ve been practicing this for the past few weeks where I hit less than 10% with balls, and it’s made a tremendous difference. My off season will be primarily focused on this.
