Welcome Back to RBR guys, and to an extremely Vivid preview of what every Bentley in the new generation is going to look like.
This is the 1.65 Million #Mulliner Batur coupe, the most powerful Bentley ever, at 18 units all sold out. Totally irrelevant for most of us right? But wait, don’t write off the Batur as irrelevant to us regular car folk just yet. The Batur previews the future Design direction that #Bentley will take in its soon-to-come line up of future cars, most crucially their BEV line up.
Revealed today at #carweek Monterey 2022 and Designed and built by Mulliner - oldest coach builder in the world at 250 years. They built cars like WO’s 8 Litre and the legendary R Type continental - and more recently the equally expensive and rare Bacalar - the Batter follows that same line of cars.
The Batur is the first design by new head of Design Andreas Mindt, and likely previews what a future Continental GT could look like in hybrid and EV form.
The basis of the design is the “Resting Beast Stance” like a predator about to attack. The grille is immediately identfiable as Bentley, but much larger and more upright. Within it are triangular like chevrons, called. Batur chevrons, which we will also see inside the car.
The car features an “Endless bonnet” seam through the side into the window line/greenhouse connecting the glass to the bonnet in a very unique way. The lights are typical Bentley, large and shaped not unlike Bacalar - yet slimmer and more modern. The body in general is muscular, and all of these front and side elements are modern but familiar - the rear however is a big departure from the norm. Slim rear lights, active rear spoiler, and a 3d printed set of Akrapovic tips make up a very different rear look for a Bentley.
This is one of the last cars to feature the famed W12, with it being in it’s more powerful form ever here with 740PS and 1000nm! A huge bump Vs the GT Speed’s 650 and 900. The is thanks to new software, a new intake system, upgraded turbochargers, and new intercoolers.
The rear is fairly similar if you know the GT Speed’s underpinnings - the usual 8 speed transmission, eLSD, four wheel steering, 48v electric anti roll stabilisation and adaptive air suspension.
The first BEV to use this design is due in 2025 - I theorise similar tech to the Taycan and ETron - given the platform sharing between Continental and Panamera already existing within the VAG group.
Inside the car is less revolutionary - a largely Continental interior awaits with some parts from the Bacalar. Like that car, this is a 2 seater only, here finished in black, orange and red dynamic. The Batur chevrons details are on the seats, 18k gold used in the 12’O’Clock steering band and gear selecter - and the best bit is the Laser etched sound wave in the trim miming the W12 sound profile! This and much more to show you in today’s video!

Looks like a certain Korean Car called Genesis!
Go Genesis!
Looks like CRAP !
Hate to say it, but I prefer the round headlights.
They'll always exist
I hate how here’s this trend for single strip lights going on in the automotive industry. It’s like all these brand names ditching their creative logos for bland font with dark blue coloring. Everyone’s getting in line with the WEF with the uniformity. As for Bentley, them ditching the circular lights is a travesty and a departure from the iconic and timeless design that made it unique. Porsche is doing the same with its Mission R...
Yes, totally agree. Round lights are part of the Bentley DNA. Recognisable to even casual admirers. Having said that; from the side profile I’m getting Aston Martin volante vibes.
I don't hate to say this but Bentley was stuck in 1999 with ugly designs. They finally came to their senses and took a step in design. That said i have to agree these headlights are ugly and the whole front of the car looks cheap.
@@NarasimhaDiyasena I love that trend lol. A simple, yet elegant design that can fit any vehicle
Amazing new genesis 👌.
I was thinking the same thing.
I think you don’t know what your talking about lol
A genesis can only dream lol
Beautiful car...excited for the future aspect as well. Love that Rory is at Monterey Car Week, though that limited his time at the display area for this car, pretty sweet you got this access to it - in the UK somewhere, I assume? Need to make it there once in life - leaving California soon - bestie from HS is in the car industry (Linkage Magazine), so really feeling the desire to go with the photos he sends me each year.
Not about to prance, I left it on the first mention, tigers don't prance, predators don't prance when attacking, they pounce!🐯
Looks like a Genesis a little bit. I prefer the Continental even though I can only afford watching them on RUclips
Question: I'd be interested to learn how you manage to get the exact same camera angle for all cars...🤔
I've never seen that on YT !!
Props to you and whoever helps you with that mate 👌🏾
It's a standard photography angle, most manufacturers use it; so he uses the same angle for his videos. He gets the images from the media site and adds the sparkle.
@@mojojojo_BB oh really ? He even gets the engine etc...that's good to know thanks
We ŵ
Not sure about the exterior, maybe it will grow on me, and the interior is so similar to the Continental, not sure of there is enough diference
I actually prefer the front of the car of the old Continental with the round headlights
Same. Its not 1.1m better than a normal continental
5:00 The grill looks like a smiling "Brian Griffin" the cartoon dog
I love you and your content, but did you just say us regular people whilst buying a Bentley haha 🤣
Thanks for your sharing
Looks more like a Jaguar tbh.
Hi 👋 there sorry to have border you but I saw your comment section and I say I take the time to tell you.have you ever heard of investment trading earning?
1:09 - not so sure “us normal people will buy” was the right definition 😅😆
Lol yeah, had to pause the video and scroll to the comments when I heard that. I was not disappointed 😋out of touch with reality much? Cool car though
i like tht there isnt a big ipad in the middle of the interior
Beautiful 😘 well done Bentley nailed it and took courage to change the design its much better looking
Great video as always but I think you mean pounce 🐅 not prance 💃🏻👯🕺
I think it looks great!
We are still waiting for the 7 series review after many months of unveiling
Looking really good. It also has an attractive elegance
It reminds me little bit of GTR 35, little Aston Martin and mostly continental GT
Luxury at it's finest, I honestly think, it's got a little too much horsepower for a luxury vehicle, but hey it is what it is, I definitely wouldn't mind pushing this!
I think the separate rounded headlights would be better but still good looking car
What always distinguished the forerunners of this car was that, in certain ways, they looked like nothing else in this segment. This was down to some key proportion and characterising details in the design. Notably, these included very pronounced and proportionally substantial rear arches with strong crease lines and geometric relationships between details such as vents, surface lines and glasshouse shapes etc. Other essential identifying traits included Bentley motifs signature shapes in the rear lights and side vents - here, needlessly removed. This car not only changes the overall proportions from the side view, making it look much less low and long (not necessarily a bad thing but a radical departure from a key identifier of the car's linage) but critically brings in pastiche elements from brands that rank below it. It also fails to cohere these various changes in the relationships between lines shapes and proportions.
The overall roof line is overtly taken from the last 20 years of Mercedes coupes and the rear is a, jarringly incoherent, pilfering of the rear end treatments of just about every Aston Martin coupe of the last decade. This produces a superficially arresting and attention grabbing design but at the expense of trading off key and unique brand-identifying elements. Don't get me wrong I like this - but I won't for long and I can't say its a cohesive or mature design when compared to others that made the brand so memorable. This is a, comparatively cheap, and ultimately sub-par design by Bentley standards (however superficially modish and fun). Add to that the aftermarket looking wheels, with none of the style-over-fashion design that usually distinguishes the brand, and the failure of this car to be a true modernisation, rather than a high street me-too pretender, is all too apparent. This puzzling bit of fashion signalling design will never be a classic. If it was a Hyundai Genesis product (or anything from the Audi stable) I'd think it was great - but it's not is it?
Nah I completely disagree. The overall proportions look very “Bentley” with the recognizable grille shape. The *only* difference is the headlight shape. Also how does the rear look anything like an Aston?
@@fifteen8850 Nah, the differences I point out here are material and measurable. The grill is not one of them (neither does it need to be to significantly break from the Bentley design language). The omissions I pointed out in terms of detail are significant signature items such as the "b" side vents, the lights and their treatments in terms of shape and finish. These have been hallmarks of Bentley coupes and overall design for years and are easily capable of being updated in a modern way while retaining their unique features (here deleted). In terms of proportion, the car has had a breakaway (from all other Bentley coupes) with a shift of visual weight in the greenhouse area when viewed from the side. This effect is achieved by the use of a Mercedes design cue which consists of a more curved less stepped (front to rear) arch to the roof line and upper glass edge to the cabin from the side. All Mercedes coupes employ this detail / proportion combination - this is not used by any other Bentley and is a Mercedes signature that changes the visual sense of mass in the upper area compared to other Bentley coupe designs that have that upward kick in the bodywork to the rear of the glasshouse. The rear under-bumper blacked out graphic is a classic Aston Martin treatment, emphasising technical aerodynamic engineering over aesthetic refinement in terms of finish and material choice - which are essential Bentley design values. Again this stylish but crude design element has been a signature look for Aston Martins for 10 years or more and wholly absent from Bentley cars on the road. Our subjective response to a design is not the same as the objective and material changes made to it. These departures from the Bentley design language are objective and measurable and once you see them, you can't un-see them. I think the changes here run the risk of weakening and trading the cars brand identity, design integration and maturity for modish signalling and transient appeal. I still like it but I'm not sure it's appeal is pure Bentley or that it will last.
@@fifteen8850 It looks like a squashed SUV. Not like a continental at all. It's way too tall. More RR phantom like than a continental. It looks like cars are just getting bigger and heavier now.
@@lamenamethefirst squashed suv my ass
Front looks like a jaguar with a Volvo grill. The rear end looks like a Camaro. The rear lights look like they are from Aston Martin. The old saying “Heaven is when the Germans are organisers of the picnic and the Italians are the chefs.” Not the other way around.
When I first looked at this car I was like, “ what the ****” but I think the design grown on me
Sleek elegant looking car, onley and onley wish they colour coated the back bumper, that huge diffuser left in black is like the paint shop guys run out of paint,a lot of new cars coming out now with half the bumper painted.
Is the large black area at back plastic?
I cant believe they copied Hyundai Sonanta's window trim extending to headlight.. (or reverse of Kia k5 trim extending to rear)
This is beautiful 🥰❤️🔥
Okay this is disturbing. At 13:38 it really seems that the golden ring is not in the top center of the steering wheel.. Maybe it's my display but it looked really offset.
I think it’s the angle of the camera
I don’t like the rear tail lights and the entire rear view though.but the front is superb
This is a beauty.
Doesn't look like a Bentley unfortunately. Needs round headlights.
This is beautiful
Looks a fantastic beast. Great future setting 👌
Brings the car into the future.
Jaguar inspired front and rear with a hint of Mercedes AMG GT. Try to unsee it.
Not hard to un-see
Portland, JAMAICA in the Building !!!!!!!!!!!
Huindai, BMW, Mercedes, AUDI
Cool Mustang. 👍
It’s very nice
The lights got it look like a Mazda
Not sure on the back but I guess you have to make it stand out if your wanting people to pay £1.6m
Jag front and a Camaro rear qtr. I do think it looks good but it doesn't scream Bentley aside from the grill.
outstanding, but doesn't it resemble jaguar a bit??
its sharp fr
Not sure about that design (taillight and headlight look awkward).. and I'm pretty sure it's one of those reasons why this thing cost 1.6 millions 😅
Nice 👍
A BENTLEY....LIKE A TRUCK???? THE MARKS ARE GETTING CRAZIES????
Where did you get that wallet from bud the looky looky man from benidorm Beach?
The paint choice looks amazing
YES YES THATS WHAT IM TALKIN ABOUT KEEPING UR DESIGN, YOU DONT COPY SOMEBODY ELSE'S LIGHT
LIKE BMW YES,THEY SCREWED UP BIG TIME WITH BUCKTEETH GRILL AND LIGHTS ALL SCREWED UP
I HAVE GIVE IT THESE GUYS BENTLEY GROUP KEEP UR DESIGNS ALIVE
MIRACLE
HAve you ever noticed how when a new car model is released, the previous edition immediately becomes old and slightly undesirable? LOL. Good thing for us ordinaries they become cheaper too
Yes I agree. Mercedes S Class comes to mind lol
Hi 👋 there sorry to have border you but I saw your comment section and I say I take the time to tell you.have you ever heard of investment trading earning?
NICE CAR
Sorry hted the headlamps ...bentley is know for its quad round lights and loos sexy this looks like any average mustang look alike
Suits you my bro
😭😭😭 Why did they make only 18 then they're sold out already.
It's like a car from a cartoon
If you had told me some years ago, starting with Dodge Ram pickup trucks, that, what I call "The Petebuilt" front end would become popular...well, I'd still be laughing. But looks like others get the last laugh.
Inflational exuberance.
Looks like a Charger. They made something special look regular.
one of MY DREAM CAR
🙏 AMEN
Looks like they went to West Coast Customs to get the car Pimped.
Nice jaguar lol
All that money for a Continental in a slightly different body, VW really do make peoples cars
YIKES
The side of exterior is giving me kia / Toyota vibes
It looks a little bit like a Polestar 1
I like bentley cars
Wow😎
looks korean
looks like a korean car. in no way is that a bad thing but i don’t get why bentley would get rid of their identity like that
I don't like the headlights, the round ones have always been the signature design. The rest of it is ace though. I'm not looking forward to EV everything. A car like this should ignite all the senses, the looks, the smell of the leather, the feel of driving it, you could even taste it if you want. But the sound is such a huge part that I feel is lost with EVs. Steals so much character away from a car.
Bentley portofino?
Reminds me a bit of a Jag.
Beautiful vehicle but price is a little hot.
Look like a Mustang, with a souped-up kit.
No back seats!? Almost $2Mill on a bulky hatchback that resembles a ‘Hyundai GENESIS’. With no backseats!!!?? I’m confused as hell. 🤔😤
It may resemble a Genesis. Not sure about the Hyundai Genesis though🧐
@@josephalba978 it’s the same damn thing
@@planetstar524 not at all. Hyundai Genesis were a sedan and a coupe model part of the Hyundai lineup. Genesis Motors is a separate brand part of the Hyundai Motor Group
So mr mint the designer who came from audi i think he forgot to do his homework and just reused and audi design and added some blobs under the front lights
From the side the squint test i seen an audi tt not a Bentley
Sorry this isnt the right direction for Bentley for me but may be it will sell well in china
Is that a Genius
Oh dear Bentley.
Looks like a Jag TBH
"that us normal people can buy"
Very Volvo-esc from the front 🤔
A GT car with no trunk?
>Bentleys that us normal people buy
Haha yea about that...
Looks like a Mazda.
Yeap, like new mazda 6 and half
All that design then put pants wheels on it
Normal people don’t buy Bentleys, they buy Hondas
It is a electric car or not.... Pls someone answered me?
Why is this car styled like a Jaguar?
Front looks like a mustang
it looks good, but not 2 million dollars good
Doesn't look like a bently in first glance, looks more like a Chinese knockoff EV. I don't know how the front end is overshadowing the body shape which is still same and taking away its presence.
Agree
I think your completely wrong. The front end complements the rest of its body shape by being just as in-your-face and and just as “Bentley-like”
Looks like a jaguar
At last they have finally got rid of those ugly bug like head lights!!!!
100% improvement, now its a nice looking car!!!
Prefer the Continental Speed. Nicer looking car from all angles
Has this car actually got a boot for storage. Doesn’t look like it.
