  • The Bentley W-12 engine is nearing the end of its production run, and one of its final appearances is in the Batur Convertible. This model is inspired by Batur, a crater lake in Bali, Indonesia, and follows the 2022 launch of the Batur coupe. However, the convertible is even more limited in production, with only 16 units available, compared to the 18 coupes made.
This convertible isn't the last Bentley to utilize the twin-turbo, 6.0-liter W-12 engine, but it's among the final few. This engine is the most powerful version yet, boasting 740 horsepower and 737 pound-feet of torque. Like its coupe counterpart, the convertible delivers substantial power. This engine is set to be discontinued later this summer.
The W-12 engine, a stalwart in Bentley's lineup for over two decades, has seen a 40 percent increase in power and a 25 percent reduction in fuel consumption over its lifespan. This power is transmitted through an eight-speed, dual-clutch automatic transmission that complements this luxurious grand tourer. The exhaust system, developed by Akrapovič, is made entirely of titanium, including the impressive 3D-printed exhaust finishers.
Bentley displays the Batur Convertible with its roof down in all official images. However, it features a soft top that can be operated in just 19 seconds at speeds up to 30 mph by pressing a button. The company offers extensive customization options for the vehicle, ensuring that each car can be tailored to the owner's preferences.
In contrast to the more practical Continental GT Convertible, which can accommodate rear passengers, the Batur Convertible offers a two-seat configuration. Unlike the coupe, which features an active rear spoiler, the convertible incorporates a permanent ducktail spoiler. It also sports distinct 22-inch wheels and a tonneau cover that conceals the fabric roof when it's folded.
The Batur Convertible Car #0 prototype is representative of what the production models will look like, featuring Vermillion Gloss satin paint and glossy carbon fiber accents. The interior is equally luxurious, with rose gold inserts that could complement a rose gold iPhone, along with a blend of traditional and modern elements such as classic dials and an analog clock.
While Bentley has not disclosed the price, the Batur Convertible is expected to be significantly more expensive than the Continental GT Speed Convertible, which starts at around $330,000. The coupe version was priced at approximately $2.1 million, indicating a premium price for the convertible as well.
