- Madison Behrmann loves typical 3-year-old things like Disney, playing with her brother and helping her mom cook, but is she ready for jury duty? Her parents never considered it until Madison got a letter from the U.S. District Court in New Jersey asking her to fill out a questionnaire to see if she is eligible to serve. Madison’s mom was alarmed by the mailing because it says that she was chosen from the voter registration rolls. Inside Edition Digital’s Mara Montalbano has more.
She'll be sentenced to 15 minutes of timeout , it's tough but it must be done.

My oldest son had his identity stolen whenever he was a month old. He’s 23 now and still has issues because nothing was done about it at the time. I had to prove he was mine and that he was who he is as an infant.
That is crazy... I heard from others that its terribily hard to make the government believe in you after your identity is stolen.

I was getting stuff as a kid because an adult one town away has the EXACT same name. Almost ran into issues when I finally got my first car this year. Overheard "It's not a common name at all." I almost clapped back that it's not impossible & I've been dealing with it my entire life. Never met the guy.

I got confused by that, because some teenagers in high school don't have credit yet (no bank, no credit card, etc) and there is nothing under their name. Although then I thought to myself maybe since identity theft is possible, video suggested that they freeze the stolen identity credit. If that makes any sense.
To be fair, some wealthy parents put stocks and other stuff in children’s names so they have money once they turn 18

I know someone who enlisted in the military at 17 and when they did a social security number check they found someone had taken on their identity and was living in Canada. Needles to say that person got arrested and as they said it made a lot more sense why they had a screwed up credit and such at 17.
I think if they dig a little bit they will find this is not an isolated incident.

I knew a guy that used all 3 of his kids identity. He used them to open up cell phone contracts, cable bills, light & gas bills etc.. I can't imagine how they felt when they got of age & seen the damage that was done. He ruined they're credit before they were even 10! He had $4k bills outstanding then, he'd try the next kids number to see what he could use with it..
When I turned 18, he foolishly talked me into putting his DTE bill in my name & after 6 months, he had that bill up to $2,400.. I ended up having to pay that bill when I got with my husband years later while we were moving into our first house together.. NEVER again will I be naive & put my credit on the line!

She might be more competent than some adults that have jury duty. She'd most likely make the right moral choice if you explained it to her simply enough lol
I can just imagine a jury of 12 three year olds. Every 5 minutes someone is going to be screaming for a potty break. By the time they're all done with the potty, then it's going to be lunch time. Then nap time. Then when they wake up, it will be snack time. And then the potty routine will start again. I just don't see how they're going to squeeze the trial into their already packed schedule.

My niece's identity was stolen when she was 2. Not only did she have to prove who she actually was, she had to prove that she was a baby when the loans came out. She almost wasn't able to go to college.

The question is not just, "why would a three-year-old be summoned for Jury Duty?" But how would they get any information for identity theft when she should have no identity to steal. A toddler doesn't have Credit Cards, or a Drivers Licence. No type of identity to steal.
They still have a social security number. When I turned 16 and got my driver's license and first bank account (back in the 90's), I couldn't write checks. Apparently someone made uo a driver's license number and wrote bad checks on it. I was unfortunate to get the same number when I got my license and all my checks were declined because of the fraud. It was a huge headache to get it all figured out.

What’s weird is the fact that someone can steal a child’s identity and ruin their credit without anything being done. How is it possible to ruin someone’s credit and then not reverse it if it’s proven it was stolen?

If it is identity theft the good news is she’s a minor at the time and can get it all cleared up by 18 with simple proof of her birth certificate, but wrong is wrong

I think this is more technical error as that’s more common, I saw a case of a 3 week old called for jury dutu
If that was my kid I'd have her show up for jury duty just to show them how ridiculous it was. If she wants to find somebody guilty based on if she got chicken nuggets or not that day then that's on the judicial system.

The real question here is WHY DO KIDS HAVE CREDIT SCORES? That shouldn't exist until they're 18. The US's credit system is extremely predatory.

They said her name was pulled from the voter registration roles. Someone used her name to vote. In other instances, it's not uncommon for parents to add their kids name to their acct and give them an allowance. Like if they wanted to get some snacks on the walk home for example, they could use the card. It would be a great way to build a good credit score early as long as it's done responsibly.

Back when i was in school wr had something like this. I ended up in a fight at 16 and had to go to teen court....where the damn teens decided i needed to do 45 hours of community service and set up my fine. This is after i explained i got jumped. They didn't care it was all fun and games for them. But then i also got to be part of it... And the sentencing we picked for other students was based on dumb things like...well she things she is all that or they could have sone better. They had some young adult supervising us who was just as immature as us.
When I was 7 I got a call for child support, I didn't know what that was about but looking back it's funny. They called everyone with my name in the phone book.
The only thing that pops in my head is the family guy click when they find the deficient "kitty".
I would have brought my kid to the court for the lulz.

Pretty sure this means her identity has been stolen. I promise you, if you look into this you will find that someone somewhere has used this child's identity to obtain n ID or something else.

Identity theft is a crime that happens to children quite a lot, because there is USUALLY no sign of it being that they aren't old enough to do anything like this on their own. I’ve been registered to vote for the last 41 years and yet to be summoned for Jury Duty.

While it's possible fraud/identity theft led to this, I'd wager it was a clerical error. Someone in the county with the same name was pulled for jury duty, and somehow the addresses got mixed up in the system. My grandma's health insurance was cancelled recently because of a clerical error - a death record was entered with an SSN one digit off, and her insurance company was notified that she was deceased. Usually you don't have to tell the deceased about their own passing, so they quietly ended her coverage, unaware that she was, in fact, still going to need it...

In NH the jury is made up of people who hold NH drivers licenses, not registered voters

Stole identity is common in my area. Parents, guardians or family members have destroyed their credit. So they'll use their children social numbers. I've only witnessed gas, water, electricity, phone and cable bills under a child name and social. Children's credit is usually destroyed before high school.
Her parents should have given her a crayon, then the jury duty questionnaire and let her color on it till she's done. Then mail it in... and then just wait and see what happens!.😂

Often times people will try and put utilities into their child’s name because they had the utilities shut off in their own name. Situations like that I imagine is how a child can be mistaken as an adult.

When i got my first id at a young age we found out my identity was stolen, and it took hours to correct it. I had prove who i was to the secretary of state and everything it was a living nightmare.
