@@mehere8038there's a difference between not wanting to do your civic duty and not being able to.
I don't know about now, but when my son was little, having the care of a small child was supposed to be an automatic excuse. But in spite of saying that I had a small child and wished to be excused, they kept sending me notifications for jury duty.
I'd then have to write a letter stating that I had the care of a young child and ask to be excused.
I finally got tired of it and wrote a letter stating that I kept getting called in spite of having a young child. I had no one to watch him, and couldn't afford a baby sitter. I stopped getting summoned.
I had served previously. And had I not had a young child, I would have been willing to serve again.
I didn't get anything else about serving for years. When I got something, I wrote a note about a medical condition that I have, Meniere's disease, but I was willing to serve. It can cause vertigo attacks, among other things. They called me and wanted more information!

be sure you find a way if that's how you feel about your society obligations. That's what helps your country going in the correct direction, that only a certain demographic actually see responsibilities like this as an obligation & actually attend instead of trying to get out of it. Much the same as voting, some see it as something to get out of, others see it as their civic responsibility to always participate in

Before going into the court room for possible jury selection or dismissal, they told us that we'd being given $20 (or something along that amount) per day and if we wanted waive it, we could tell them that at that time. I remember thinking to myself, that I'm spending , God only knows, how many hours and days here and burning my gas to get here, I wish I would refute five cents if they were going give it to me!! The nerve of them to ask such a thing!!!
