- Josephine Wright from Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, is battling a land development company who she says is trying to force her off her land to build a residential subdivision. Bailey Point Investment LLC is trying to construct 147 townhomes. Josephine, 93, has lived in her home for 30 years, and the property has been in her family since the end of the Civil War. And she wants to keep the property in her family. Inside Edition Digital’s Andrea Swindall has more.
The fact they tried to offer her 39k for the whole property is simply awful, I hope she not only wins her case, but also that those realtors go BANKRUPT.
What an insulting offer. Go to a car lot and offer $500 for a brand new and you would be laughed at.
Disrespectful! Leave moms alone! All her kids and grandkids should build houses around the property and build their own community…

This is disgusting. Whenever a real estate agency wants to buy your property to develop something bigger and you say no, they will try to step over you and invade your rights as if they’re entitled to whatever they want. With that money, hopefully they can build a gate and purchase cameras. That property needs to be protected.

Something similar happened to my grandpa in the 1960’s. The state was building a new highway at the time and my grandpa’s house was in the way. They gave him a check for about 1/3 of the value of the home and told them they had to be out in 2 months. He always resented NY state after the fact. 2 months later the bulldozer was at his front door. If you look up Route 135/ Seaford Oyster Bay expressway in NY, that is the highway they built when they destroyed his home.😢

This woman is a treasure and brought tears to my eyes. Thank God she has powerful support.
Sadly this is happening in a lot of places my grandparents who had several acres of land and the land around them used to be stunning forests, they were forced to move out. I'm sad they didn't fight it. I visited last year and there used to be a long dirt road and across it were blackberry bushes we would pick as kids. We're replaced with pavement and ugly ass cookie cutter houses. I'm so mad at that company 😡

Well 5 children now in their 60s and70s will inherit. They all live out of state. Family spread all over usa. House is only 30 yrs old and her retired husband died soon after built, so children didnt grow up there but in nyc. 5:04 Who do you think will stay there. @@impressiveemu1259I think a trust is a separate entity so, when she looses her legal battle (eg trespassing, encroachment etc), the asset would not be part of her estate and contested. A trust will naturally cost more as it requires hiring a lawyer when anyone can write a will on their own. Also, with the amount of children she has, it will be problematic to manage it in the future, especially considering the low value.
I hope she gets a better offer and sell the property to have less headaches and better living for her kids and the rest of her life. Sentimental value is cool but rarely worthy in the long term.

I live and was raised here in the area, about 2 miles from her county..and its awful all of the development that's going on all at once. There's been a big stink about overdevelopment in both Beaufort and Jasper counties. I've been of course following this story locally and I'm so glad its getting national press. I can’t hate more when individuals, corporates, realtors & investors buy residential properties just for the investment purposes. This is the No.1 reason why rent & house prices keep going up. Anybody who works hard should be able to afford a decent house at decent price.
