Mother Warns About Vaping After Stepson Dies at 15

- Charlene Zorn from Wilmington, North Carolina, is warning others about what she says are of the potential dangers of vaping after her stepson Solomon Wynn died earlier this month. She says they had no idea the 15-year-old was vaping. Before Solomon got sick, they say he was a healthy athlete. Then one day, he got a cough. Charlene’s goal now is to make sure others are warned and educated. “We now need to teach our children what an epidemic vaping is,” she told Inside Edition Digital’s Andrea Swindall.
I am 17 and I can proudly say that I have never touched a vape, did drugs, drink alcohol, or smoked.

My dad died from lung cancer when I was 12 back in 1992 and his death and what he went through before he died (even had tubes in his nose by being hooked to am oxygen machine and heavy coughing) motivated me to never smoke and I never did. My husband doesn't smoke either and I never wanted to date a guy who smokes. I'm so sorry for this woman's and the family's loss of this kid, he was the same age as my oldest daughter is now and my daughter said she saw her classmates vape before, during off campus during lunch periods and after school and she doesn't to be part of it and I hope she doesn't.

Swap one addiction for another ! My step dad brought a whole tub of lollipops and would take on everytime he wanted to smoke. You can also ask your doctors for nicotine patches (agleast you can in the uk)

my mom got vaping induced pneumonitis and it was the scariest thing ever. ive never even considered touching a vape or smoke after seeing her go through that. she still has breathing issues years later
I work with a 19 year old that says he can't quit vaping and has recently started drinking too! Im going to share this story with him. He is already having health issues.
His mind might be talking a lot and the body just act on instinct to cope on it.

I used to smoke a pack of cigarettes a day and I was having issues breathing at night and I was always tired. As soon as I switched to vaping, my breathing got a lot better and I was no longer feeling tired all the time. I don’t think kids should be vaping or smoking but I find really sketchy that there was no investigation on the substance this kid was vaping! This sounds like another case of bootleg carts that contains poisons in them. I’ve SEEN kids use empty vape carts and fill them with OLIVE OIL and then sell them to their classmates to gain some cash…
I was thinking the same thing either a blackmarket cart or some janky one from a dumbass kid at school. Vaping and smoking is bad regardless but the kid shouldn't have died that quickly.

This is absolutely big cigarette company propaganda. The same with me. I've got ill from cigarettes like twice a year and since vaping I've had covid once (3 days of symptoms) and currently the first cold I've had in several years. Feel much better overall.

I’m in a tough battle with my addiction to smoking. I’ve tried to quit on multiple occasions but I’d always find myself crawling back to cigarettes a month or two later
(this goes for vaping as well).
I really hate being a slave to this garbage. At this point I might as well call a quitting helpline to help me crush this bad habit for good.
I would suggest rehab, but obviously not everyone has the luxury to do it. 2 months is an extremely large amount of time. This addiction was built up over many years, and it won't disappear in a couple of weeks. I'm going through an addiction right now as well, and it's frustrating when you just give in. This addiction was caused with time, it will heal with time aswell. I'm proud of you.

Everyone thinks it’s harmless at the beginning, too many young people get addicted, selfish companies get rich off of their customer’s addiction, and then it’s too late once they all start dying to it. All just because the product hadn’t been around long enough for us to see the true long-term side effects. History is just repeating itself. 😢
Don’t you think everyone would be dying from it if that were the case? Instead of 1 shady news story where they don’t actually tell you how he died, but then at the same time try to frame the whole thing as if he definitively died from vaping?
Not saying that vaping is harmless, just that this is poor journalism. Not once in this video does it actually show evidence that regular vaping is actually deadly, or even that vaping is even the cause of death in this kid.
It talks about vaping itself the whole story but hardly even mentions the kid at all, that just screams propaganda.

I went to a park and this 8 year old boy came with a 14 year vaping and doing tricks. I told him “ hey don’t vape that ain’t good for you, you trying to play a sport?” He said “ yeah but it hard.” I said “ no wonder you vaping and your lungs ain’t developed.” crazy world we live in.

I saw too much of this vaping epidemic in high school. I graduated during the pandemic in 2020. These devices were invented to help people quit smoking cigarettes. Not for high school kids to get high. The worst thing these companies did was to come out with FLAVORS for the devices. This video needs to serve as a wake up call and a firm warning to all high school kids whether they vape or not.
Not to mention, the MSDS of the terpenes (flavoring) being added to vapes, literally say they’re toxic to inhale. “Contact poison control if swallowed. Harmful or fatal if swallowed. May cause irritation of airways. Extremely toxic to aquatic life.” Stuff like that. A lot of people don’t know

when i was in year 7, which is 11-12 years old, someone in my form group was already addicted to vapes. he still is and has gotten ALL of his friends hooked. 11 years old? i was still playing adopt me on roblox.
Now I’m not an expert but they seem to be missing that he wasn’t vaping but was smoking a fake weed pen. Now no kid should smoke or vape to begin with but this isn’t a vape or e-cig this is a concentrate pen. This kid more than likely dies from vitamin e-acitate poisoning if you don’t believe me look it up it’s the main and only cause of death smoking wise on pends that we’re displayed here today. Also a good lesson for why kids shouldn’t smoke.

Ok I thought that there was a difference because I've been using a e-cig for yrs now and I don't have any problems I started so I could stop smoking cigarettes and it worked. When I was smoking cigarettes I couldn't walk a few feet without breathing heavily.

Jesus 15???!!! I started vaping in May of grade 7 at the age of 13, and I was addicted until September 2022 when I started grade 12. What made me stop was whenever I'd use my vape my lungs would get a sharp pain. I though it would be hard for me to quit, but 10 months later I'm doing completely fine and haven't hit a vape since. If I could go back in time and never hit a vape I would 100%. Your future is more important than how you feel during the moment. May this young man rest in peace 💔

Very true. I started smoking cigarettes when I was 13, 10-20 a day, and I smoked like 4 joints a day on top of that. I moved onto vapes when I was around 21 and gave up the weed. I'm 25 now and I feel so much better. I still vape because I don't feel like quitting the vapes just yet, I like my nicotine lmao.

Actually, nicotine, when vaped, is similar to the effects of caffeine. Not a big deal. Nicotine has also been proven in studies that it prevents Alzheimer’s, dementia and other neuro degenerative diseases like Parkinson’s disease. It’s not bad when it’s not in a cigarette containing thousands of other ADDED chemicals.

I smoked cigarettes from 12-30 years old and vapes made me cough so badly! I can't understand how it's considered the "safer" alternative. All cigarettes and vapes should be done away with! The govt makes money off of your addiction, and sometimes death.
Same. I’m stopping today. My chest always feels tight. I switched from cigs to vapes. The vape has me so hooked. From 1 to 3 cigs a day to vaping anytime and everytime I wasn’t in a store or at work. Not a safer alternative.

I stopped a couple months ago when Cali passed a law to ban flavored vapes. Coping without it was difficult at first but now I dnt have the urge to smoke every second now.
Just to take away from this vaping is very expensive I’ll run through a disposable within 4-6 days and to think this 15 yr old died from it he probably had smoked hella. Parents might have gave him too much allowance or he somehow stole money without them knowing.

And this is another reason why smoke detectors tied to fire alarm systems should be required in school bathrooms. My high school is a 1970s building, and only 2 or 3 bathrooms have them because there was a small addition done to the building in 2012 or 2010. But none of the bathrooms in the old part of the building do not have smoke detectors.
Vapes don't always set of the detectors. It sinks instead of rising.
Australia has a pretty big vaping problem with teens at the moment my school tries to do things like putting up posters and doing presentations about how dangerous it is but not many people seem to care about the dangers and just do it anyway. Teachers don’t even see when students do it anyway because they do it in class when the teacher left for a minute or when there’s around except their friends people also advise it very regularly on Snapchat so they’re relatively easy to get.
Would be nice to do searches on their book bags, but idk what their laws is if they can even do that

My condolences to the step-mother, it was a truly tragic loss due to corporation and under education.
I have asthma and while I would much rather live without it, it has helped me realize that the people that smoke essentially have worse lungs than I do. I have never had any temptations to smoke because of that
I like Inside Edition but this definitely has more to the story than what was said. Was he vaping weed flower? Was he vaping e cigs? Was he vaping the vape juice thing that is just to look cool? Was he vaping a mix? Was he vaping cannabis wax/oil? Was what he was vaping with tainted or tampered with? So many more questions that we'd need to know for this story.

I'm a nurse and had an 18 year old patient get surgery for a broken arm. While waiting for him to wake up and recover, this patients lungs took so much longer to wake up than a person double and even triple his age. He's also a football athlete. His history? VAPING!!! It's awful. Glad his surgeon had to suggested for him to stop. Hopefully he does.

I’ve quit just a a couple weeks ago. I started using a 0 nicotine stick, but now I’m done, have nothing, and don’t plan on getting anything else. It’s disgusting and so hard to pull yourself away from.
Juul and other vaping conpanies pulled the same tricks Marlboro and others tobacco companies pulled during the 50 - 70s. People were convineced its just water vapor with no long term side-effects.
Not exactly just the stupid people thinking its water vapor. It clearly says on the packaging that it is propelyne glycol, vegtable glycerin, and nicotine. Also his death wasnt caused by nicotine vapes, nicotine vapes dont have vitamin E acetate oil, which is a common cutting agent for illicit cannabis vapes. Vitamin E acetate in the lungs causes lipid pnuemonia, which if not treated, leads to death.
it sucks that this young teen died. hopefully they'll be able to find out what caused his death and then use that as a warning to anybody who's vaping as well as anybody who's thinking about vaping. 😢

More information needs to come out about the specifics of this. Was it just regular ejuice? I seriously doubt it. It was likely a black market thc pen which can contain unsafe additives. My heart goes out to this mom over the loss of her child. I don't think it's a good idea to put a blanket blame on vaping in general if we don't even know what he was vaping.

I have a friend whos 15 and vape and smokes pot or weed,. I have warned her so many times about the dangers of vaping. She also drinks alchol. I have told her the dangers about that too. one day she will end up in a situation and say "I should have listend"

Ik it sounds stupid but my opinion is that if it comes from her parents or a principal or even the police, maybe that can wake her up. And u dont even have to say that you did it. @B1inded3agle__ see I want to but her mother vapes/smokes too and so does her brother (he's an adult) and she doesn't go to school where I live she's just here for the summer. Her dad as full custody of her butbshe moved in with her sister which I think wasn't the best idea. But it's her body.

I vaped for two years before I was able to quit with nicotine pouches. My breathing quality improved A LOT. I tried to pick up the habit a couple of times since I quit and it hurts too much to even do. I don't know how I was able to vape as much and as long as I did. Yes, I got a health scare before I quit, but it wasn't enough. After watching this, I'm staying away from it for good. You can quit; you just have to find alternatives, and you'll feel better.

I’m 16 and I can proudly say that I have never touched a vape. I went to spend the night at my ex best friend’s house and she was vaping with her sister and her brother and they tried to make me take the vape but I said no.
i keep getting offered vapes at my bus stop for school, sometimes even weed but each and every time i will say no, ive got a few friends who vape and im noticing theyre getting out of breath WAY quicker than they used to.

Been vaping since freshman year of highschool and am an avid runner years later - misinformed
I ride an exercise bike everyday for at least an hour (around 20-22 miles) and I have vaped off and on for five years. Started doing it a lot last year tho 😂. I believe it barely effects lung capacity at all or at least light years less than combustible smoking does. I don’t have any lung issues whatsoever and never feel winded.

I can’t lie, I’m a 16yr child and I’ve vaped about 3x and never did it again. The last time I did smoke was January of 2022 and my parents caught me and I never did it again and I never will do it again…
