Water overdose is not a joke!!! Happened to me last summer, began with the worst migraine of my life. I kept drinking water, trying to stop the head pain. It was shortly followed by throwing up litres & litres of water. Heaving for hours with a brain-stabbing migraine is not something I would recommend. Thankfully I eventually threw up enough water to avoid a trip to the ER & managed to fall asleep as the migraine wore off. I'm glad my friend recognized the signs of water toxicity and potentially saved my life.

Respect to this guy. He made spaghetti, found an ambulance, and even got shots of places contributing to the video, all for a 12 minute video of a mom who wanted a Wii.
Christian Bertuccio I dont think he actually filmed anything, it was probably just stock video clips and the youtuber doing random stuff to match the story
Well he actually didn't do any of those, the woman was not the winner of the contest, she was second, she didn't make it to the hospital she died, her husband won 16 millions.
I grew up on that station and I still think of this event on a fairly regular basis. IIRC the station no longer exists. The hosts were all fired and replaced afterwards and it just didn't recover. Either they scrapped it entirely or moved it to a different station number and name. I was mostly raised by my mother growing up, so the idea of a mother dying from an event she participated in to win her kids and family a new gaming console just shakes me. My mom bought me a Wii for christmas, and theirs died from the aftermath of winning them one in a contest. It's one of those random intrusive memories/thoughts that still frequents my brain. I just can't imagine that kind of trauma.
Reminds me where I was having an allergic reaction without knowing. Accidentally ate a single pine nut and had to experience a painful stomach cramp the entire night, it was so painful that I couldn't fall asleep. The cramp stayed with me for more than 10 hours.
I find it interesting how many people learned about this case in school for specific reasons related to different majors. I learned about it in radio school, for obvious reasons 😐
But tbh in theory If they add appropriate amount of salt in those water Contestants probably won't be having any issues apart from urinating for the next 6 hours
I feel so horrible for her. She wanted to play with her kids. Her kids and husband must feel so bad. I can’t imagine dying like that or having to come with someone you love dying like that.
exactly, even there is no risk of dying. Drinking this much water without peeing is inhumane. Whoever designed this competition is a total moron without any common sense.

When I was little I was having a competition with my brother of who could drink more water in a day, I told my mom that and her immediate response was “Don’t do that , drinking too much water can kill you” at first I thought she was exaggerating but now I know why she told me that
Me and my friend would just fill up our water thermoses at lunch and see who could drink theirs the fastest. It was only 20 oz, so I guess it wasn’t very dangerous.
This makes me sad, this story was changed to help students understand how to help rare cases, but the darker reality is the woman actually died six hours after the event in her home. She sadly did not get help in time...

Yeah which is why contests shouldn't be ignorant or you get ignorant results. They could have done a million other things instead of this. A drawing, art contest, a raffle, apple bobbing, ect. ect. the list goes on and on of safe things you can do but eating contests any kind are not safe. Drinking contests are worse. I started having pretty much identical symptoms to dehydration or heat stroke, drank more water, sat in the shade, when it didn't stop getting worse in a couple minutes I called for emergency services, luckily I was on a well known trail, and not horribly far in, they dragged me to the hospital, and they took blood, sat me in a waiting area, let me have some water.. I'll never forget the doctors face when he came into the area and saw me with the cup of water and said "Stop it, Not another sip." they gave me an IV of that high sodium fluid. I learned that day, to put a small amount of salt, or pedialite in my hiking water. scary scary stuff, because the presentation can be the same for if you're dehydrated, only drinking more can kill you...

@Jay-Jay Hibbs no the quote was "makes me mad at the ones who made the game" which comes across ad referring to the Wii console since it was the prize, the prize of not a game but a contest. She died due to the type of contest, not due to a game.
@Jay-Jay Hibbs apparently you need to learn what double negatives mean. And no the original comment isn't directed at the contest. Or it would say contest. A lot of people uninvolved with certain tech call it by wrong things. Like how people still call controllers "paddles" or how some say they will contact PlayStation or xbox, instead of sony or microsoft.
When I was in high school a girl challenged me to see who could drink more water. At the end of the day I won by 1 bottle. Later that day she wasn't feeling good and ended up in the hospital. In an attempt to find out what was wrong they gave her a spinal tap. Ultimately she had water intoxication. For my English final paper I wrote an essay on water intoxication. This video reminded me of that situation.
It's even sadder in real life - the real woman drank much less, much slower, and it wasn't even distilled water but normal table water, but she didn't make it to the hospital, quickly died at home right after the contest, after placing second, leaving behind 3 children and a husband. She didn't even get a Wii for her sacrifice.
Certainly not my response to the issue. But then again i like in Sweden, where medical services are a lot more practical. (Meaning a hospital bill wont clean you out)

Watching your videos makes me realize how incredibly brilliant modern medical treatments are. Treating something like this, not with special drugs, but, "Hey, if we make her blood saltier, theoretically, she should be okay," is a testament to problem-solving involved in diagnostics.

I used to watch his gaming contents but then i got super interested in his medical content , keep up the good work man ^^ !
Turns out he is better at being a doctor than being a dietician or a coach or sports psychologist... Maybe university teaches you stuff you can't Google... 😁 I'm sure he was a great gamer though I must look that up
I love his older videos! He has so much personality but that rarely comes through on his med vids. I've watched him for years also and I'm so proud of everything he's accomplished.

Cristina Rose and Ornstein I never said money could bring her back, compensate her death or it's ok. It isn't. No decent person would do that and no matter how insensitive it sounds she deserved everything that happened.

On the other hand, and this is something that I learned the hard way after having moved into a desert, where I was living had well water.. turned out it didn't have much for content of anything except the actual h2o, and being who I was I was out in the desert, Hiking, Climbing mountains (high desert in the sangre de cristo range) Turns out lots of sweating, plus lots of water consumption can lead to hyponatremia.

I drank like 5 cups of beer and every minute i pissed i think i saved my life at that time and i didn't vomit
And it was my first time
@@jordanriley3062 you felt like that after 5cups of beer? Sheesh 😂
I did the same thing, was chugging water to give a urine sample at the hospital. I felt so weak, was peeing every 2 minutes, and was miserable. Plus, I did this on an empty stomach. I was diagnosed with water intoxication. I will never do that again.
He explains everything rlly well
Asha right? I learnt more from him than any of my science teachers 😂
The fact that she died makes me so mad at the ones who made the game!!
A wii is not a game, it is a console. Without actual games purchased they can only serve as a pretty paperweight or screensaver.
@Jay-Jay Hibbs also I didn't add any scientific explanation. Unless you think a linguistic knowledge is scientific for some reason.
@Jay-Jay Hibbs it's called be civil, and don't be a hateful jerk
When I was in high school a girl challenged me to see who could drink more water. At the end of the day I won by 1 bottle. Later that day she wasn't feeling good and ended up in the hospital. In an attempt to find out what was wrong they gave her a spinal tap. Ultimately she had water intoxication. For my English final paper I wrote an essay on water intoxication. This video reminded me of that situation.
This was extremely informative although sad...Thanks for helping educate the masses!
Reality Realized "the masses" lmao
"Moooom, I feel like vomiting!"
"Drink some water"
*HELL NAWW*
Dead💀😂
Chaos Seeker
Niagra falls who?
Good name btw
"Fuck Off"
*me 24/7*
Drinking water is something you should do after vomitting in my experience. When I drink water before, I just end up vomitting up all that water.
Crying from terrible headache +Losing vision in one eye (Takes her home to take a nap)
ignaucio witherspoon yeah, weird.
ignaucio witherspoon You can't fix stupidity hun! He should had took her straight to the nearest ER.
Certainly not my response to the issue. But then again i like in Sweden, where medical services are a lot more practical. (Meaning a hospital bill wont clean you out)
Live* In Sweden. Sorry about that typo.
😂😂 everything couldve been better if he took her straight there
What a jacked up contest this was! I can still remember hearing about it…
This happened to me, during a time when I had just been diagnosed with PTSD, I drank so much water and I wasn't eating very well, my sodium level dropped so low I woke up in hospital after having 2 seizures. I have made a full recovery as it has been 2 years since that aweful time, and my PTSD has almost gone completely
So glad to hear that you are doing well!
Glad you’re doing well
here is tip from Slovakia,... Drink Beer, it may be safer,...
God bless you
Yay!😺
I remember when this happened. I listened to the station the day after as well. It was found out that people were calling in warning the station that it was medically dangerous and they went ahead with the competition anyway. They immediately off aired the show and it was replaced with music. We all thought it was ironic that day they went off air one of the selected songs played was How to save a life by The Frey.
Fuc kYourAds exactly. And if she hadn’t taken the drug to prevent her from peeing then she would have survived. All the other contestants survived. She was just a FUCKIN CHEAT.
James Lamken
Hope all the families sued.
was it ironic? or was it a tribute to a negative situation? meaning someone could have done it on purpose. so it was "not" ironic.
T Bone she had some sort of disorder, he just compared it to a drug that prevents peeing, did you even watch the video?
James Lamken Wasn't it a Sacramento radio station in 2007?
Me: *Looks at cup of water*
*Puts cup down*
Yup that's me
you do know that if u dnt drink enough water u can die form that. buh u jus commenting n i understand that
tasnim miah r/whoosh
r/Whooooooooosh
I just drank a whole water bottle in a minute
...
*GETS SCARED*
I remember when this happened. I was just a kid at the time, and it freaked me out for a long time. Also, unfortunately, in the real story, she died. Her husband sued the radio station if I am not mistaken.
I learn more in these videos then I ever do In school...
Same
no you don't, this is simply interesting facts and knowledge, you don't get to do the excruciating pain of memorizing all the medical bits and pieces like in school or college(it's the same for all other degree).
I guessing your age is 17 or below
Lol
@@pnaixe yes but you can remember the basics of the video. such as not to drink too much water is the takeaway from this video. another example is the cookie video. not to eat too much food when you are starving.
pnaixe productive notes and watching these everyday? You'd be pretty smart if you were under say 14.
I remember when this happened, it was back in 2007 in Sacramento. I was living there at the time. Tragic story.
Me too. Horrified. I left Sac 3 years ago.
This story is used in colleges to remind people not to feed tons of water to kids at initiation rituals to get into fraternities. Yeah I live in Sacto and remember this case, nurses were calling the show and begging them to stop as somebody was going to get hurt. The radio host was like "You can't die from drinking water." Tragically stupid on many peoples part. Nobody bothered to just google it?
Was the Radio guy punished?
I remember this too it was so sad
TRAGIC STORY MY A**. JUST DUMB PEOPLE BEING STUPID. THERE WAS NOTHING TRAGIC ABOUT IT.
damn this KC woman has been through a lot of shit
KC is a survivor to test all illnesses
This dude really gets off on this shit
Leena Ahmed all of that for a Nintendo Wii
The guy that made this video was wrong, her name is Jennifer Strange
He purposely uses random names to keep people anonymous
The beginning of a legend
No they should do a video about what happens when you eat Tide Pods.
Dennis Thompson He finally did now.
Molester Moon yes, but it dose "interesting" things to your body; I recommend you watch his video on the Tide pods. (It's something like "kid eats 3 tide pods, this is what happened")
Dennis Thompson he did
If you havent seen, he has now done one
He already dis
And that´s how buying a WII would´ve been cheaper than going to the ER.
Wdum cheaper then going to the er
poor mom :( :( i guess her kids doesnt even care about the Wii now they just want a healthy mom :( soo sad
She's dead.
JoeDoesGaming2000 No, watch to the end of the video. (I think)😦
This was an edited version of the story.
JoeDoesGaming2000 Nooooo so she died??😟
samantha mcmahon no you idiot she is still alive listen to him
Why is it a happy ending here when the lady died in the actual story?
For the first video of this series he probably didn't want to make it have a bad ending immediately. He usually only takes inspiration from actual cases instead of directly telling the exact story. There's multiple of these videos where the patient sadly dies.
A man continuously watched tens of videos of Chubbyemu channel, this is what happened to his eyes.
😵
Looooooool
Did he dieded?
that's me!
Tony Sparks No he became blind
Watching your videos makes me realize how incredibly brilliant modern medical treatments are. Treating something like this, not with special drugs, but, "Hey, if we make her blood saltier, theoretically, she should be okay," is a testament to problem-solving involved in diagnostics.
Techinically, they are powerless, this is not an active treatment, rather a passive one.
Adam Johnson and it didn’t save her anyway.
or maybe just how stupid humans are.
In real life she died, sadly.
Yeah, she died.
In the medical school case study, they tell the students she lives because death implies the doctors did something wrong, but here, the doctors did everything they could do and she still dies.

That was the most expensive Wii ever, it cost Jennifer Strange a 28 year old mother her life, it cost the husband his wife's life plus medical bills, the children their mother, and it cost the radio station 16 million dollars in a lawsuit.
she didnt die tho
The story was altered, she did die...
Yeah, this case here ("KC") was mainly made to demonstrate the treatments used for such a scenario. "KC" was lucky, Jennifer was not.
@sonikolied strange was the secondplace winner. She died for a pair of concert tickets
natejames11 but you have to admit that was stupid of her
its insane what so many people DONT call the ER for. my first & only ER call was when i did not stop throwing up (and, once my stomach was empty, violently retching) every 10 minutes for a good 40 minutes... which wasnt at all unbearable (like the head-splitting pain described in the video), but still pretty draining... and worrying, obviously, but nowhere near as worrying as this story
This case was actually mentioned in my toxicology course.
Mine as well! 😶
Why don't you have more subscribers? All of your medical vids are so good and have over a million views. It's like I'm watching an episode of house only without all the fluff.
Dang that dinner looks pretty good
Dominic B. Let's first teach you to spell
Dominic B. Seriously, idiots, literally, you're, damn, seriously, idiots, it's. Got it?
Dominic B. She didn't die though?? Did you even watch the entire video?
A 6th grader... American education system right here folks *slow clap*
You don't ... care how to spell? Why the fuck not?
For anyone who is still worried about drinker too much water, even if you have normal vasopressin function, just know that the body has natural mechanisms for making sure sodium content stays relatively stable. The kidneys can reabsorb water as well as sodium.
