  • We’re back again at Appletree Surfboards in the repair room. Last year we did a video about how to fix small dings on your wing board and on your carbon fiber board. And we got a lot of good response. We want to make our boards as strong as possible, but unfortunately little dings can occur.
We want to show you how easy it is to keep your gear in tip top condition and what you can do yourself. Of course, if you're afraid of this stuff, take it to a specialist, but we think that a lot of the normal, like small dings and small repairs, you can easily do yourself. So because we had such good feedback, we wanted to do a complete series about more common ding repairs on both our kite boards and our carbon fiber boards.
And in today's video, I want to show you something that unfortunately does happen, not often on our boards, but it does happen on a lot of surfboards and kiteboards, and that is the fin box blows out or it needs a fin box replacement. So in this video, we're going to show you how to.
02:30: Step 1 - Completely remove the old fin box from the board
03:40: Step 2 - Remove the loose bits of foam
04:46: Step 3 - Fill the cavity with foam
    08:56: Step 4 - Sanding
    09:50: Step 5 - Re-routing the cavity for a new box
11:15: Step 6 - Installing the new fin box
13:30: Step 7 - Glassing over the fin box
17:21: Step 8 - Sanding the cured epoxy
19:00: Step 9 - Final layer of epoxy resin
    19:07: Step 10 - Final sanding
    Done!

Great demonstration 🤙🏾🤩… Can you make a recommendation for a good resin and shop. I bought my last one in amazon and it was really bad…

Hi, Yes sure. We like the products by sicomin, they do a surf-clear epoxy which is really nice, they also offer the epoxy faom. There are shops (viral surf in france for instance) that offer smaller amounts of this resin. they also offer the boxes needed.
