Frank Miller reinvented both Daredevil and Batman, arguably at a time when each character needed them most. His vision still stands as the interpretation that most of us hold to this day, whether you're a fan of the characters from the comics or from TV/movies. That gives Miller GOAT status to me.

Great overview Omar. Been a Daredevil fan most my life but I’ve never read the whole of the Miller run. Can’t wait to finally correct that with the Omnibus.
I'm thankful that I have the printing of this and the Companion with that unique red and black design, though not with the obis. I'm guessing that makes them the second printings. I'm just watching this because I love Omar's overviews and also want to encourage others to smash that "like" button!
"THIS IS THE BOOK YOU MUST HAVE....." That line tells us all Omar! This is the greatest comic run of Daredevil that I can recall, and I was there for issue #1!
100% Perfect Overview of this book Omar. Worth a standing ovation. In my opinion this reprint is the one of most important one (Along with Iron Man Omni 1 with a 2 and more to come 😊) this year.
Nice overview. I think this omni actually had two previous reprints (if the internet is to be believed) and I have the most recent prior. I actually would prefer the standard cover on the new release for the classic artwork if I had waited, but glad to had been able to find and read it a few year ago. And as much fun as I had with this one, I thought the Companion was the better volume. This volume may have redefined the character for all future iterations, but I felt Born Again & Man Without Fear mastered him. Hopefully those that missed out will get a reprint of that volume in the next year or so. I know everyone is hoping for an Ann Nocenti collection or two, and I'm sure that would be great, but my own selfish nature would love to see the content of the last two Epic Collections (Purgatory & Paradise and Widow's Kiss) as, outside of The Man Without Fear miniseries, I first started reading Daredevil's ongoing run with issue #353 when Karl Kesel began.
Great overview, Omar! I am very bummed the letters pages aren't included. I mean, couldn't they toss a few onto those blank red pages between issues? I bought a few Miller issues as a high-school-aged fan, but they were snapped up quickly and overpriced immediately. New issues would often be in the back-issue bins for double cover price unless you had Daredevil on reserve. It was a pre-speculator's market circa 1981-82. This is my first and long-overdue opportunity to read the full run and I'm eager to enjoy it. PS: As of today, I still think of the Kingpin as a Spidey villain (and the Kingpin was a serious threat in Spidey 50 through about 80), but I may admit afterwards that Miller successfully flipped him into a Daredevil foe. DD fought Electro in DD #2 and the Ox in 15 and 86, so there's a precedent of Daredevil taking on the Wallcrawler's old sparring partners. Miller clearly loved Spiderman, and my to-date favorite Miller/Janson-illustrated story is Amazing Spiderman Annual #15's "Spiderman, Threat or Menace?"
Nice video! I like the comparison segment, particularly. A good chunk of the extra material is reprinted from Fantagraphics' myriad publications. Primarily The Daredevil Chronicles (which is where the John Byrne art comes from) and The Comics Journal (a magazine by Gary Groth, Fantagraphics Publisher, which was much more popular in the 1980s when it didn't have much competition in the marketplace, but was also not the most popular regular comics publication). Fantagraphics is also known for having published the two-volume X-Men Chronicles (I and II) by Peter Sanderson (of later OHOTMU fame), from around the time Daredevil was becoming more popular and the X-Men were still on the rise, which had extensive interviews with Chris Claremont, Terry Austin, John Byrne and Dave Cockrum. It remains one of the best pieces of history on the "New" X-men from 1976 to 1982. Most of us had always wished that Sanderson would have done a similar book for Daredevil, but he did conduct the interview with Miller & Janson which is included in this volume (also for Fantagraphics, but for the aforementioned "Daredevil Chronicles", which is from a series of index-type books on Marvel comics), but it is a much, much shorter (and, therefore, shallower) dive into the creation of these comics.
I’ve got the second printing and was waiting for this video to see if they updated the spine. If they had I would have upgraded. Great book though and I’m glad people will have a chance to pick it up!

Missed out on the first printing sadly. This new printing will be on it's way soon. Happy Days 😄 Great Overview Omar, hopefully we can get those missing issues voted in and reprinted.
Excellent review of a Daredevil classic. Really enjoy how you compare these new prints with the originals. Remember picking up these issues from the newsagents when I was a kid and WOW!!! This is my era of comics and Daredevil still holds a very special place in my heart. The absolute pinnacle of comic storytelling ❤️🔥🔥❤️
Loved the rollercoaster fight, too, apart from recoloring the outlines of Daredevil's after images to pink. The original newsprint issues had them black, and the new pink ones just seem a bit garish to my eye.
It's almost impossible to overstate Miller's contribution and transformation of DD. He single handedly uplifted him from his C-list limbo to an urban crime fighting ninja with a deep moral motivation to fight injustice in and out of costume. I'm just curious why Marvel didn't use the newly restored Masterwork scans for this 3rd printing. Would've been nice to see a P2P comparison. Sad to see how Marvel is progressively skimping on paper quality to make a profit though I'm glad they didn't raise the price to $125. Will there still be a 3rd cover (2nd DM variant) for this new printing?
I wasn't planning on buying this but you might have changed my mind Omar. Have never read the whole run, only part of it at the start. Seeing it here again you've reminded me how good those early issues were that I did see.
Reading it for the first time. I have the standard edition cover preordered. A quick question - underneath the dust jacket, would the same artwork be identical for both the direct market and standard edition covers?
What's the paper stock like in comparison to other Imak-printed omnibuses? I have Phoenix Omnibus Vol. 1 and would like to know how the paper in this DD Omni compares to Phoenix's?
I am so excited that I get a second chance in buying this since I missed it. But I will definitely buy it in February along with Wolverine volume 3 Jim Lee cover. I had a setback last year and I wasn't able to preorder in time. My finances are not as great as I want it to be but I will sacrifice to buy it. This is worth buying I am excited about this year of Omnis and can't wait for more in future runs.💯💯💯🙏🏽
I had Born Again sitting in my To-Read collection for the longest time and when Echo came out I decided now was the best time to check it out and damn, it blew me away. Seriously one of the best comics I’ve ever read, which made me wanna seek out this book which gave me so much trouble cause I really couldn’t find it with the DM cover with Elektra and Bullseye which looked top tier. I got lucky a few days ago finding it in a comic store in Boston for cover price but I’m really digging Frank Miller’s Daredevil, I haven’t finished it yet but I will definitely get the companion when that reprint comes out.
Joseph, I'm guessing four omnibi? The first DD omni boasts 1-41, the second 42-74. I would hope a third and fourth omni--should they ever be--could cram in a ton of issues since the page count of comics in the '70s dipped as low as 17 pages. I fear omnis are unlikely for the mediocre '70's DD, but the Epics are filling the gaps with Epic #6 Watch Out for Bullseye coming out in March '23. That takes it up to DD 132, so one Epic shy of Miller's run.
My friend and I would race to to general store in order to make sure to get the latest issue of the Frank Miller DD run. it was a glorious time to be a 5th grader. My brother pulled DD 168 as a grab bag gift, still has that issue!

Yes, I can't express enough how completely ground-breaking and suspenseful the Elektra stories were when they were first coming out month to month. I was in boarding school and read each issue on the bus back from town on Saturdays. By the time we pulled into campus my heart was already racing and I couldn't wait to find out what would happen next. The saga also influenced my decision to study Japanese in collage and move to Japan in the mid-80s.
Only William Shatner could do that intro quote justice. I am older than Marvel comics and I read Daredevil initially as a reprint in the UK, and it was just OK, then didn't read it for a number of years, and then for some reason I picked up one of the early issues of Miller's run and was hooked, for sure buying this, please reprint the companion Marvel.
With the various tweaks Marvel have been doing to the spine designs I kinda wish they had kept the Marvel Omnibus logo at the top. Great that this book is back in print!
I was certain the spine would get changed to get in line with the rest of the Marvel Omnis. That makes me happy, cause I already have the book and the spine always bugged me. Nice to know it's still F'ed.
Never noticed the price before on the front of these books (on the Marvel logo) Maybe it's just on certain omnis? I pre-ordered this one. I didn't bother with the last printing as I had the trades already. But they're getting a bit battered now so time for an upgrade.
Thanks for the video Omar. Been really looking forward to this reprint as couldn’t find a decent priced earlier copy. Now I can sell all my original issues!!! Loved this at the time when it was being published - groundbreaking creativity and easy to take for granted 30 years on. Really looking forward to revisiting this run but that size differential is a bit concerning
I'm confused, in this variant cover Daredevil is in his red suit but in the variant pictures I've seen, he's in his yellow. Are the preview pictures wrong?
I tried folding the pages and every from the video to my graphic novel. I accidentally made a small tear in the book. Is that a bad sign or a good sign? So is it?
Omar's mention of the colors made me question one thing: will the Epics use the Masterworks scans of the original colors? Or will they use these particular scans with the sort of "modernized" and touched up colors? Same goes for the Walter Simonson Thor run for when that gets collected in the Epics. Does the Spider-Man Kraven's Last Hunt Epic use the classic colors? Or the touched up ones? If that one uses the classic colors, will the other ones follow suit?
Waiting for the epics for this run but with talk of this being the definitive run, Omar it would be cool to see your top 5 runs for various Marvel and DC characters.
Wasn't there 4 printings? I remember the 1st is yours, thick pages. 2nd was reprinted with 99.99 dollar price. 3rd they actually upped the price to 125. (Same dust jacket and board as the 2nd print) And now, the 4th printing lowered the price to 100 again. ** edited 2nd printing cover from 100 to 99.99

I was certain the spine would get changed to get in line with the rest of the Marvel Omnis. That makes me happy, cause I already have the book and the spine always bugged me. Nice to know it's still F'ed.
I’m so excited for my pre-order, I can’t take it. The wait is OVER!
I'm jealous of those who will get to read this for the first time
I'm confused, in this variant cover Daredevil is in his red suit but in the variant pictures I've seen, he's in his yellow. Are the preview pictures wrong?
I tried folding the pages and every from the video to my graphic novel. I accidentally made a small tear in the book. Is that a bad sign or a good sign? So is it?
Now if we can only get a Denny O’Neil Daredevil Omni that bridges the gap between the end of Millers run and Born Again.
Great idea - and we'd get some Mazzucchelli work too. He did art for several issues before Born Again.
@@Brian_Boru He did. DD 221 is one of my single favorite comics issues of all time thanks to his art.
Any word on when we might get this run in Epic format?
Please, Marvel! Give us a Daredevil by Dennis O'Neil Omnibus!!!!
Klaus Janson is going is going to be at "Phoenix Fan Fusion!" :)
So glad they didn't mess with the
spine and it would be look good with Companion omnibus.
Yeah, I really wish they used the spine of the first print DM cover, at least for the new DM printing
Alright!!!! I got this one on the way.
We need a DD Companion Omnibus reprint Marvel 🙏
This video is only 10 months old and it seems this 3rd printing is already sold out and very expensive, wonder when 4th printing will come out?
Waiting for the epics for this run but with talk of this being the definitive run, Omar it would be cool to see your top 5 runs for various Marvel and DC characters.
Paid a pretty penny for the 2nd printing on eBay last year, but I love the red cover.
Wasn't there 4 printings?
I remember the 1st is yours, thick pages.
2nd was reprinted with 99.99 dollar price.
3rd they actually upped the price to 125. (Same dust jacket and board as the 2nd print)
And now, the 4th printing lowered the price to 100 again.
** edited 2nd printing cover from 100 to 99.99
I've been wanting to read this for a long time. Well, looks like my wallet just got a bit lighter.
Would you recommend me reading this Daredevil omnibus, to get into Daredevil comics? I've watched the show, so I know the basics of his lore.
It’s the one that got so many of us to become DD fans.
if i never read DD before, is this recommendable ?
Absolutely
How bad are the thin pages?
I wonder if when the epics of this content finally comes out whether it will use this book’s source material, or the masterworks version.
I have the older printing) signed by Miller and Janson) so I'm good.
Hey can anybody help me out im fairly new to comics and was wondering how to know ahead of time when these omins are coming . Im eager to collect all the daredevil omins as im a huge fan of the character but when i was going to order this today looks like i was already too late . Is it primarily this channel where people get their news or other places ?
Yes, Omar is very good at announcing when titles are solicited so you can preorder ASAP. Amazon does have it.
@@paulmcgrew2932 oh cool thanks man
@@williambates6060 This is the place, man. Omar breaks everything down for us. He sometimes does video recaps with announcements.
Any sign of the companion omni getting a reprint Omar? Sorry if you've covered it.
Not yet sir. So I tell people to make sure to vote next month.
Amazon now (Dec 23) are listing the companion Omni for June 24, but unfortunately this one is already way above list price.
Didn't the first printing have DAREDEVIL 219 by FRANK MILLER and John Buscema included?
Not my copy and I got it the first week it came out.
That issue is in the companion omnibus and Born Again trade. A classic issue.
