Hey Zack, if you want your DIY spots to last longer, try putting them in an empty lot. Installing this in the middle of the sidewalk is not only a hazard, but guaranteed it will be removed quickly.
I have actually worked concrete so I'm surprised to say that I have some suggestions: #1) bust the form after the first day or 6-8 hours and continue toweling the sides to give a smoother finish... that concrete hardens enough in a few hours to take the form off, but takes days to cure( you were correct there) #2) you used way too much concrete than what is necessary, contrary to what the comments are saying, other than esthetics, there is no need for that much concrete, 2 or 3 inches min, even on the ramp. Use a Styrofoam block to fill in the seated area, leave only 2 or 3 inches around for security. #3) the rebar is fine, despite what the majority of comments are saying..I'm a little surprised that you didn't put another bar in the middle of the up ramp but that speaks to the fact that you probably didn't even need any. I would use 4x4 road wire grid in the future, sorta like chicken wire but way beefier... or use chicken wire and wrap it around the Styrofoam and maybe chuck a couple rebar bars in to reinforce. One thing I didn't like was you let the rebar expose to the elements. That is a big no no as it will quickly rust and permeate your concrete and blow it apart. I'd paint before it's too late. But then again you used so much concrete you're probably good haha :) . #4) if you used chicken wire or road wire you could probably get the front lip down to under a quarter inch with out cracking. In conclusion I would have done the following differently: 1) made a thinner form to use less concrete, 2) use road wire grid for the up ramp and just drop a few pieces of rebar in after the concrete is poured so you can keep the Rebar off the edge of the form 3) For the seat use chicken wire or road wire wrapped around Styrofoam block, Or just use the same width as ramp for the seat, but keep the rebar and metal out of the edge of the form... actually, I just remembered someone saying jumbled up coat hangers works best because they are coated.. I would do the whole thing with cost hangers actually. 4) I would have poured on location mixing in a bucket with a shovel and not with a big mixer. 5) Poured the ramp right into the ground on location, that hole where the brick is the perfect depth to tie into the side walk. Now you have a "cold joint," that may crack over time. 5) I would have busted the form 6 hours later and hand troweled the sh#t out of it with a finishing trowel( the thin ones) to make it shiny and smooth.. ps. If you added coping, you wouldn't even need any rebar.

Nice ramp man. Tbh I probably dont know what I'm talking about but my uncle builds pools and he puts a lot more rebar, like maybe every 12 to 14 inches. Since a lot of the pressure of that being ridden is gonna be in the middle I think another cross beam in the center of the ramp woulda been stronger. Hopefully it holds up, looks fun to skate. Tbh you should use more rebar, but lots of concrete diy shit has been built not 100 percent proper and has lasted for time. Like even huge parks. Vancouver and Montreal have some big concrete parks that basically were built diy
The thing with concrete for pools is that they have to build it muuuuch stronger because of the pressure from all the water. Standard spacing for rebar for skateparks is 380mm with the concrete about 6 inches thick. What might work better for this type of thing is to use something like a wire mesh. It would cover more surface area while being lighter
I hope no one ruins your new spot as they did to your others. As far as what diy obstacles i would like for you to build in 2022; anything. I just enjoy watching your videos. 👍
Skater and construction worker here. When the rebar is too close to the surface and it rust through, we call that "burning" this can also occur when organic material is mixed in but in a different way. Concrete is almost never completely dry and is basically a sponge. Two ways to avoid burning are, keep it at least 2" from the surface and use high chromium rebar. 😉 I also like how quickly you figured out how to work that stuff.

Hey again. Another tip or two from a skater who's placed and finished a lot of concrete. When it comes to mixing, less water is better. Not dry, but not runny. Watering out your batch weakens the result. Also, allowing your crete to start setting up a bit, before placing of course, then "breaking", or mixing again to a workable consistency, then placing it creates a stronger concrete. This helps if you need to go thin or anticipate substrate movement, like we get in Canada. You can even do this three or four times, but careful about adding too much water, especially late in the game. You'll weaken the slurry that forms the skin of your pour. Chain link fencing makes great reinforcing bar (rebar). We built a driveway quarter pipe about 10 years ago using chainlink and there's still not a crack.
Ah. That was a good one. Great idea to incorporate diy into the environment so it blends in more. This was small enough to be low key but as you learned small concrete is heavy as hell. Maybe figure out a way to make a kicker or transition that is propped up by an existing element so you only pour the ramp section. Again great idea and creativity.
I like the new Intro, also you should make more ditch DIY spots with like beer can coping. Also I think it would be cool if you made a DIY rail spot. (not like handrail but like flat at type thing)

As some one that does. Foundations and concrete work. That's not how u use it. U should have left the wood rough naturally. It will bond better. But it's not going to bond anyway really. With out an adhesive. U would have been better off just making the entire interior if the form concrete .no wood frame that' wood will rot and deteriorate overtime. And concrete won't so u will have. A hollow weak top half one day. .
You should use a straight edge (a level or a straight bit of wood and place it on top of the form to see if anything would be sticking out the concrete bro 👍 sick video

Most driveways are built with wire mesh, with rebar tied into the garage and street. Wire mesh is the way to go here.
