Wow! Thank you so much for showing us DIY makers some love. It was great having you guys come by the garage to see our caveman process. My only regret was not introducing myself as "my name is Jonny Manak and I'm a skateboard maker from the San Francisco Bay Area..." Much love from the Manak family!
As a furnitute maker I've been in a bunch of shops... This isn't a high end shop but it's a smart shop. You can tell that the maker is bright, he gets it, all of his little jigs make so much sense. That isn't stuff you can just buy, it's custom for what he's doing and he's making it work. This is all about the end product. I love it.
Jonny is one of the nicest guys you could ever meet. Awesome dad, his family is rad, and his music is the best and has been featured in all kinds of skate videos and TV shows. If you've been skating for a while you've heard it and probably don't even realize it. Go Jonny! Shout out to Danger and Zo!
Loved this. Coming from an art background, the screen printing part was familiar. But the rest was fascinating. You guys should do a short run collab with him and offer some of his boards in your online shop.
Love this video SO MUCH! Shoutout to Jonny for being so down to earth with the process and also for shouting out all the homies in the board building community! He's got it right: anyone can do this!
Hi just wanted to say you guys are my main inspiration for skateboarding and I broke my arm recently and you all are really helping me make it through the hard times I’m having I love watching ur vids when I’m bored
Hey man just dislocated my elbow recently. Haven't been able to skate since; almost there though! I know a broken arm is way worse! Enjoy yourself and stay positive! Look at all the skaters that constantly break bones over and over, and are still skating pro to this day!
This is so cool. I love how it doesn't skip past anything. Really makes a lot more sense why skateboards are pricey, so much work goes into making a quality board.
beautiful deck work and design. I'm an 80's kid so my first boards were variflex, vision and powell peralta, so Manak definitely hits my aesthetic craving. Thanks for sharing.
The old school brands had sick graphics and almost every model had a different shape. I'm glad some companies brings back different shapes, even though most are standardized. My first board was Santa Cruz Rob Roskopp, then an Alva Craig Johnson and a Powell Peralta Steve Caballero. I never got my hands on a Vision deck, but they had the coolest graphics and shapes. I remember Vision Jinx and Vision Psycho. These Manak decks looks awesome btw!
This was truly amazing! True craftsmanship does not only stop at jewelry or furniture making! Thank you @ManakSkates for showing us how you proudly create a master piece!
I like finding old videos like this. I know I’ve seen this before. But it’s so refreshing seeing love for skateboarding. This guy makes and sells skateboards but has videos showing you how to do it yourself. A true skater wants everyone to skate. I want to run off to Lowe’s and make my own board now. Well I don’t think they have that exact ply but. I want to do this.
Soooo cool. Thanks for Sharing Jonny Manak...i def believe a crafted deck like this is gonna skate stiffer and have more pop...i love small batch decks. Super cool process.
Thanks Aaron awesome video nothing better than a backyard skateboard business done the old-fashioned way from scratch the way I remember and the way I use the screen print exactly the way he described it🔥🔥👍🏻👍🏻
handmade with love will almost always be >>>> than mass production with several flaws and inconsistencies love truly is one ingredient that can NOT be replaced with any kind of other substitute, i promise... in everything.
I've recently discovered your channel and spent a bit of time going through your back catalogue of videos. I like all your varied videos I've seen so far, but really love this one.
This vid is amazing, taking working from home to a new level. 3 broken elbows and lifelong love of boards just got my kid his 1st skateboard. Really interesting insight into how things can progress in the production process while recycling 🤟🏴
Big big props for all of the diy in this video, especially the screenprinting which is a huge passion of mine, love seeing people doing amazing things with what they have
This might be the first video where the title and thumbnail are underwhelming. This was so awesome to see. It’s one thing to see Paul Schmitt do his thing, it’s another when you see a dude doing it at a much more diy level.
Shout out manak skates! Jonny is a great guy I skate with him ofthen. Hes local to the bay area and a true skater. I purchased a board from him last August and rode that thing for almost 6 months. The board never lost its pop or integrity. Best board I've ever had. Just hit up manakskates with the size and shape you want. Its a quality board and You won't be disappointed!!!
19:29 you can tell this guy loves wht he does! MAn he knows so many mechanically inclined ppl! they could market some of those things they made for him! So awesome to see talent come together, especially during Covid!
Thank you Johny and thank you Aaron for making this stuff coming out of the garage 🙏🙏 Such an accomplishment for Manak and such help for all of us garage shapers trynna make things moving in background Much love to Braille
I would 100% support and buy a Manak skateboard. Yall should post their stuff in the comments. Know yall are trying to make money also but we prop each other up.
As someone who's looking into making a functional custom board from scratch that has a unique deck shape, this 100% helps me get a grasp of the available methods! thank you! Currently in the researching segment of the process, but we will get there!
Hey Jonny love the product and the way your boards are made. The time and attention to detail cannot be matched by any of the big brands. I'm going to buy one so be ready to ship one out to Nebraska very soon
Hey Jonny thanks for the behind the scenes! As production keeps up you may want to look into a respirator mask or other breathing equipment to keep saw dust and wood chips out of your lungs.
Wonderful video, thanks for making this. I need to get some old school molds to make some skateboards. You guys gave me so much info, really appreciate it
Have you made a video on riding the board, how it feels? I’d love to see a follow up. Also great episode. What an awesome DIY process.. so much craftsmanship..
Bru that's so dope! Ima have t give your boards a try homie. I love the style yo keep it up man! I really like how it's all done by hand and each one is unique.
I love how the dude is making his boards on his backyard with not so much tools and manage to make quality boards, I'd love to spend some times there 😎

Wow so much craft and love goes into these boards! I'm a new skater and my board is mass-produced. I'd love to see the difference between mine and a hand made one since mine feels a little wonky sometimes.
Really cool, thanks for sharing this. I just watched the VICE season of KOTR on RUclips and it made me want to get back into skateboarding haha I moved to Spain but it turns out there are skate parks in the small town I live in as well as each of the towns nearby. Looks like I’ll be buying a board today 🎉😂
We paint, gloss and rub oil on the wood so it releases from the concrete when we make molds, but I was nervous and just blabbed out "wood doesn't stick to concrete..."

Sometimes concrete sticks to wood. Depending on the mix and wood. I've used Diesel and Crisco as form release doing concrete work. Results may vary.
Hmmmm
