When doing projects like this you should dress like a construction worker (safety vest and hard hat) and do it on a weekday. No one will mess with you.
Nice. I would cut pvc in half then zip tie back together, fill and cut zip ties. Probly would straighten a metal coat hanger and poke wet cement every 6 inches or so to get air bubbles out. Probly lube the pvc before to de shell easier.
This is incredible content man. I just started building ramps at home due to covid and the DIY tips and tutorials are absolutely bringing out my creative side again. Appreciate all you are doing man!
You could water cure with the cans on if you wanted to. If you have a really good mold that’s tightly sealed, you can periodically spray the exposed part of the concrete and cover it with some plastic. It has the same function as water curing. Also the bottles that Smart Water comes in make amazing coping molds.
Another Killer video Brother! Love all the DIY videos. Another great way to make beer can coping or parking blocks is to use 2"-6" PVC pipe. Cut with a grinder using a metal blade. Will cut pvc like a hot knife through butter! Cut in half and to length for a perfect round coping. Just choose your size, use plugs for the ends. Use some wd-40 to coat the inside to make it come out easy. Pour concrete and wait 24hrs. Bam, beer can coping as long as you want in a single piece! Keep up the good work Brother! 👊🍻🤘
#Concrete mixing tip: add water to wheelbarrow prior to dumping in concrete. Makes things easier. Roughly 3/4s of a gallon per 80 lbs bag. You can also wrap any concrete in plastic to keep in any moisture on concrete that exits the concrete through evaporation. That will create the water curing process as well. And concrete takes roughly 28 days to reach full PSI strength. And add some moisture to the coping cans to help bind them to the new concrete you’re laying down when installing. Aside from a skatehead, I’m a fence/concrete contractor. That’s why I share these pointers. Rad to see you doing these DIYs.
I need to find a place where I build my own skatepark. Honestly all your videos I watch just make me so inspired. Lets pray that I can make my dream a reality.
if your spot has mad tiny cracks flex seal spray works perfect it slides like lacquer you’d think it would be sticky but I use it a lot to get rid of cracks in curbs
Damnnn what a mission! I was super worried when the clip of the officer came up! Glad you didnt get cited with anything on this one, hyped the spot turned out so good!!
I like it that you are trying it for your first time and showing the process with the trial and error. Makes it enjoyable even though I'm not building a skate park.
Put the canopener sideways so it cuts around the rims outer edge. Takes a sec to figure out but once you get it, it's easy and doesn't leave a sharp edge. Great video :)
I went completely pepe silvia trying to identify this spot lol was so satisfied when I spotted it, now I guess I have to make good on the intel try to get a grind on it. Maybe you can do tutorial on that blunt and I can try that? Love your videos Zack, thanks for helping me appreciate the grittier side of skating from the polished parks, rekindle the old joy of a horrible curb behind the grocery store. Now wherever I go I see potential DIY spots calling out to me
Yesss! Been waiting for 'Dowdy Does: Beer Can Coping' without even knowing it 😅 Tips - you can cleanly remove can tops by sanding them on some smooth concrete. - Use the tallest cans you can find, more grind less gaps. 🤘🤙
@@NOAH1995able hold the bottom of the can in your palm, then scrub the top ring down in small circles til the seam gives way. Leaves a nice edge if done well. 👍 Search for 'how to remove can top without tools' or just use a can opener.
Thank you!! I was thinking that same thing, taller cans would make for easier grinds for sure, less catching up. Maybe keep the smaller ones for corners and such.
Definitely one of your best videos!!! I skate also and I made a petition to get a skatepark in my town. I am definitely going to make this. Thanks🤙🏽🤟🏽🛹
My brother, im at 14 beers right now because i live a bit out of town and all my friends chickened out but i think i found the perfect opener for beer cans. Its those ones that have a circular blade which you click in and then just turn around a few times. Leaves it nice and smooth and you dont cut off your fingers after 14 beers. Whatever theres some Idiot in Germany that likes thy videos, keep on building and keep on what ever the fuck you wanna keep on keeping on!
In terms of removing the caps I know with a food can you can rub the top of the can against the tarmac/concrete until you wear through the crimp of the cap and can. Maybe you can do the same with beer cans and should be quicker being aluminium
All purpose kitchen scissors from the dollar store worked for me to get the tops off. But you gotta cut where the top curve of the can is. (Where the can goes straight) working on this today!
Thanks for this one dude been building a DIY with my homies and said I wanted to do a beer can coping however the way I would have went about it was wack so thanks now I can do it proper aha
Youre a G my man 🙏 i know you had help at night which is understandable, but given a different situation you would of finished it! Just wanted to say the videos I've seen you DIY stuff you've almost ALWAYS done it solo. I respect you for that its dope my man 🤙 vids are great man keep it up 🔥
The tops of the cans are crimped on. With a good pair of scissors you can cut the very top edge (1 or 2 mil down from the top). And the top will come off super easy and with no sharp or jagged edges. This also keeps part of the ring I place which keeps the top rim stable.
Not gonna lie, one of the more creative approaches I've seen here. This is pretty genius tbh, im definitely gonna have to give this a try!! Thanks bunches for this vid
yoo! I never noticed it was concrete, i thought it was just like the metal can with concrete inside. This is like pool coping thats so sick and it gives me a lot of ideas!

drill a hole in the side for the rebar and one on the bottom for good luck - the bigger cans especially have trouble sometimes staying together on the ends when you take the cans off. orbital sander till it bleeds a little out the side hole. before you stick the rebar in. two nights in the can seems to help a lot of them survive being skinned - also might help keep the rebar peg in there solid. then submerged in a bucket of water for two weeks. that's it. i've tried making blocks (w beer cans) but it seemed to need more material (than traditional block thickness) to join them up. pour in place seems better. rapidset hi strength mortar to embed them is expensive but it has worked (so far). i've heard you might be able to cut that stuff w regular mortar too but i havent tried that yet. okay then. peace everyone.
Love this! Have you tried “pour in place” coping? You’d need a coping trowel (which you could make out of plexiglass) and normal concrete or Rapidset (which cures super strong really fast)

Zack, being that you are down in San Diego beer crowlers are probably even better to use. Sometimes breweries have to throw away cans that don't seal properly or you could ask employees if they could save the cans for you.
Make sure to LIKE this video if you enjoyed this process! It was such a blast making this skate spot, can't wait to go back and get a full session.
