Yes mate keep gaining that knowledge you'll save a lot on materials and on mistakes. Your spot will progress in no time! Concrete really struggles to hold its own weight, stick in some metail to support it an you're golden! Like he said 3 inch minimum.. 4 really
Don't forget to keep it wet after pouring as the cement is curing, not drying. Just give it a light spray every hour or two after pouring for that first day. It will be much less likely to crack if you do that :D
These how to videos are better than any other because you can actually understand how to do not just someone doing a time lapse an then boom it’s done. Also I don’t know how I could have a favorite video because each time he post it is even better than the last.
@@edwallace3704 there's likely a reason this isn't a thing people do (to my knowledge), could be wrong and this might work but it definitely doesn't look like it would
He probably hit it one time and the thing fell down and the lips crumbled apart. You can't make concrete thin enough to skate like he wants to, you have to have thicker slabs and more obtuse angles. This guy's project was great for learning how to form concrete, but terrible for learning how to make a concrete quarterpipe.
Cement has heaps of compressive strength but very low tensile ( think flex ), strength. That's why we add what call reo here in Oz. Also, keep the cement wet for the first day after you've poured it because it's curing, not drying, and there's actually quite a bit of heat in the reaction. It will be less likely to crack if wet. Of course not soaked but give it a spray every hour or two and once before packing up for the day. Good vid and some nice cheap fun :D
Thank you very much for this tip now I have the means of practicing some transition skating without having to go to the skatepark when I'm pressed on time!
What’s going to hold it up. Maybe when I make mine I’ll add a ledge on the inside . Or maybe some rebar that extends out so that I can lock it to a wall. Looks good. Great idea! Great video !
This vid is awesome!! thank you for making it!! make another vid of some skating on it and lets see it get shredded!! if it gets damaged make a vid on repairing it. Thanks man!
I’m doing basically the same thing, but I’m going to treat it like it’s a mold and build it upside down. Using a piece of mega smooth painted fiber glass so the top riding side will be perfect.
I've tied rebar for a living and if you're not building a proper structurally sound building you don't really need tight ties. I knew some people that would tie really sloppy and you'd walk on the bars and the wire would snap. Not fun to slip on. But sloppy or not sloppy as long as it holds while you're pouring your quarter pipe you'll be sweet! Thought I'd also mention the fact that you used pliers instead of wire nippers and still managed to do a good job haha.
Thank you for adding that man!! I didn’t really know to be honest, next time I won’t spend so much time on that haha! Totally used pliers, need some wire nippers haha.
zach...you should look into Ductal or any ductile concrete....it's heavier compared to regular concrete but much stronger & you can make it extra thin.
Hi, I'm keen to get something like this done so I can drop it into a spot ninja style without having to spend time and risk getting caught building on site. A few questions do you think making it a board length wide and adding a lip of about a board width and keeping the base where it meets the ground 3 inches for extra strength would add too much weight? I want it to be movable at least until it is in place. I saw you moving yours around in the vid but and hopefully I can get some help with mine Also as far as support goes I'm thinking of stacking soil up behind it to stop it falling backwards as there is no wall I hope this is enough. Have you had any problems at the base of your quarter where it meets the ground My idea is to dig 3 inches down and bump the bottom of my quarter against the edge of an existing concrete area so there is no weak connection. I suppose this was more or less your original intention for your quarter. Anyway good job chief I'd been thinking about this sort of thing for a while but never got round to it.
Use something that vibrates like a sawzall to vibrate the wet concrete into the form too. It’ll make the concrete more dense and hold to the rebar better.
where there a bunch of pebbles in the concrete mix? every time i buy concrete i cant get it smooth because of the pebbles in there and i just need to know so i can buy the right one.
Weird question... can i use wire fence as chicken wire for a shitty manny pad i wanna pour at my local diy spot 🤔 i built the wooden form and have some rusty rebar just no chicken wire :/
This is dope sick to see the whole process, but a question I have is if I wanted to start getting my basic building tools what should I do or what's going to be best?
Love your videos man!!! I have a question on the concrete mixture you use. Can I use it to resurface a pavement and fill small cracks? ✌whenever you can answer my questions
watched the whole vid to see how you set it into the established crete and dude ended before completing. also, materials and tools exceed 50$ if you count tools. I assume you use a hammer and an angle grinder with a mason bit to cut out the footer? Still, stoked on the method.
If all 4 bags used. 240? Seems w enough rebar you can go a tad thinner IF doing something wider w less height? Thinkin 4' wide by on 12 to 15" high... let's see if cracks haha.. if so not to night of a fall😂
What's stopping this quarter from sliding down and away from the wall? I'm fairly sure the reason he didn't skate it at the end is because is just doesn't work.
Keep it up man! I know u always try to do budget but one subject DON'T skimp on is your tools especially electric power tools or battery operated invest in good brands don't get cheap sorry Ryobi and Black and Decker stuff just save invest in good stronger stuff will pay back 10 fold when doing DIY project for skating especially concrete hammer drills for anchors...trust from mistake and invest in your tools take care of them and they will take care of u
I always wondered how they poured those types of quarters, this gives me a sick idea!
Same!! Stoked it sparked some inspiration!
This makes me happy😂

Hit that "thumbs up" button under the video if you want me to install this bad boy in the desert, forest, or similar!! Hope you guys enjoy! 🤘❤️
Let's see the most gnarly, unlikely spot to find two opposed quarter pipes installed and ready to schralp.
when you think he’s gonna shred it at the end but he doesn’t haha! love your videos man keep it up
Yeah I wouldn’t ride it either. Lol. Nothing about this build looks rideable, safe or stable.
@mountainmilk how could it be done any better ? Have you got any videos we could learn from ?
@@mountain-milk not to mention the lip at the bottom, both that and the almost certainty it'd slip off immediately

Someone at my local skatepark build a little bank kind of thing by a planter. It’s pretty old and crumbled but it’s so sick. Keep it up man!
Not sure what it is exactly (im from australia) but I always love the added aesthetic that your old car gives to the content, very cool.
Concrete being smoothed is so satisfying. Your videos are amazing!

Way to bring the real diy tips out! Would love to see one on beer can coping
Should have showed some footage of you skating it!
Such a good vid I wonder where i might be able to put something like this..
I respect your humbleness.. I’ll be following up on your future vids 100
Vids are coming out great man we all love them keep it up 🙏
Really cool to see the build of it! Would love to see how you secure it and skate it now too!
Very cool, can’t wait to see you ride it. I would like to see more wood builds too, because I really like wood, but this is very cool.
I'm so glad I found your channel! All of your content is so well produced and really helpful. Keep killing it man
Great content man, keep up the work. I see this channel going far
Zack, effing love this channel. I'm 31, and your vids get me hyped on skating like I'm still 16! Mad props bro! 🤘

Nice feeling watching you making this beauty! Thanks for sharing.

bro, if you could put it together with another one so it's like a mini wall ride halfpipe that'd be so dope!
Damn homie cant even add a couple skate clips at the end? Sick vid but lets see this bad boy in action.
i hope i find this when in a couple years when i got my back yard to build up something like this !! this is awesome 👏🏽👏🏽
I just finished a 5 page english essay on this video thank you for being in depth

Your probably one of my fav skater RUclipsrs
Thanks man!
I love this channel!
Love the way this ones edited together 🙂 makes it really interesting to watch
You can build a complete bowl using that timber form method but you leave the screws sticking out a bit to tie your rebar to 👍
NIce, it came out looking awesome man

looks rad af but a little bit thin, keep on bro, great video !
Hell yeah Dowdy! That thing looks sick, wanna see you ride it!
Cool video. Start cutting out for footers ( or finding existing edges ) and these spots start locking together.
Bro this is dope I want to do Something like this at my house.
Well done! Pretty sweet little quarter pipe!
Right On!!! So no backside smith?
Great work Zack!
Thanks for all the inspiration. I have some pics to send u of a spot u and the aussie DIY diaries inspired
Sick!
You could frame up the sides and pour concrete behind it to reinforce it too
Wow, that quarter pipe is looking smooth, and the concrete had separate from the mold because it is dry... Nice video for sure.
Really like the diys, wanna see some clips of this one being skated ✊🏼

Also how many bags of concrete did you use?
Truper!! around the wolrd!!
Amazing work. Will you add mortar to the base to smooth the transition from flat? Would have loved to see you skate it
Can you make a concrete box/manual pad DIY video?
If you're worried about cracking, keep the conc wet and cool as long as possible. Mix it as dry as possible to pack out the mould
Use something that vibrates like a sawzall to vibrate the wet concrete into the form too. It’ll make the concrete more dense and hold to the rebar better.
@@thekyledebacker pro-tips as always, in the comments 😎🤙🛹
What’s more costly, building the concrete piece like you did, or just continuing with the forms and making a wood quarter pipe?
Lumber is VERY expensive, sorta depends.
@@ZackDowdy I suppose, you could reuse the form many times over. At that point, all you are consuming is rebar, chicken wire and bags of concrete
Wouldn't it just snap in half without any support underneath? Did it work out?
Cool content! I love your DIY mentality, but in this case - talking about movable ramps, why using concrete instead of just wood?
Concrete is a lot cheaper and doesn't wear out like wood.
been watching ur videos for a while im tryna skate with ya zack
Good shit man 👍
thank you so much this inspired me tons

tomo_moton Wire fence typically is a great alternative to chicken wire. The key is to create a “cage” type of form so the concrete can bond around it.
You sound just like J.G. Quintel aka Mordecai off Regular Show. Its actually really crazy how similar you guys sound.
‘Take’ the concrete quarter pipe...🗽🇺🇸
The tapered down part looks under 1"? Did that crack? Looks like it's under 100 pounds unless you are super 💪?! You moved it pretty easy?
Seeing this made me see how easy it really is. Damn I’m lazy.
Can you tell me if this method works for a 7 foot ramp?
This is dope sick to see the whole process, but a question I have is if I wanted to start getting my basic building tools what should I do or what's going to be best?
I would start with some basic concrete trowels, a starting wood float and finishing float. Also the Rub Brick is one of my favorite tools.
@@ZackDowdy any good options on like saws and other tools for constructing molds or ramps?
Great video! Just add some shreddin in next time
Awesome dude
Love your videos man!!! I have a question on the concrete mixture you use. Can I use it to resurface a pavement and fill small cracks? ✌whenever you can answer my questions
Yes, mortar is best for that. I’m working on a video now using vinyl concrete patcher that’s a good option too
Sweet quarter pipe. Did you need to cure it like keep it wet for a few days after you toke it out of the mold?
No, I didn't water cure. I watched it as it tried to make sure no crumbles. But after the initial concrete was dry I didn't touch it.
is there a reason that you build all your stof of cocrete insted of tree ?
crazy video quality how did the youtube algorithm get my here just now?
Good effort.
I may have missed it if you said it but how long did you wait to pull it from the form?
I pulled it from the form about 24 hours after the concrete was dry.
watched the whole vid to see how you set it into the established crete and dude ended before completing. also, materials and tools exceed 50$ if you count tools. I assume you use a hammer and an angle grinder with a mason bit to cut out the footer? Still, stoked on the method.
Dude how u not gonna skate it afterwards? Let me c that b/s smith u were talking about.
Now that you got the mold, make a couple more, see if you can put them back to back and have a spine
Sick video
Thank Zack!
Does it slide down, or do you need something to hold it in position?
Next step is to secure into position using more crete, I'm not sure if I want to install it at home or somewhere with epic scenery.
Concrete anchor bolts drilled down in the front would keep it from moving. Then just smooth over with concrete.
This is interesting there is many of a teacqneuce I would like to encourage you to create ok
I've never seen a quarterpipe like this. Would it hold up? It looks really thin. Or is there gonna be some structure at the backside?
No structure on backside, with 3 inches of concrete it's going to hold up!
Does anyone know what shoes he's rocking ? Adidas obviously, but there are so many out there...
brb running to Home Depot real quick
Wow so I can make a cast for ramps? That is sooo sooo sooo useful to know, now if they remove my miniramps they won't be hard to replace lmao
So roughly how much does that weigh once out of the form?
It's heavy for me alone but 3/4 dudes could carry it super easy. Hard to put a number on it.

What's the best plywood thickness for transition forms?
You can really use any plywood for the forms, but for the transition you'll need something fairly thin. Masonite is the easiest option.
That is awesome👍
What's stopping this quarter from sliding down and away from the wall? I'm fairly sure the reason he didn't skate it at the end is because is just doesn't work.
Checkout my recent video for clips skating it
