I am using an R7. Double back button. I have my AF-on button set for metering and AF start. I have my asterisk or AE lock or star button set to the eye tracking. I use the AF On to focus in single point, then switch to the star to get the eye. Now with subject tracking on, my box can jump all over. I turn subject tracking off, it seems way more under control. So I keep subject tracking OFF. Now I see that on the AF-On, I can hit Info button and there are a few sub settings. I am not sure if I am supposed to change any of these? One choice is single or servo with a check box. What do you do here. If you dont check the box, does that mean they dont apply? So confusing and there is no info on this anywhere. Thx
Give the R7 a chance, @peterfox2538. The R7 that I used was great at autofocus. I had no issues at all. In fact, the R7 was so good it proved to me that my old R5 had focus issues. The R7 was spot on every time right out of the box. I hope your R7 is the same. Keep me posted.
My best advice, "always" rent a camera or lens first. Don't trust anyone else. Try it and see for yourself. That said, I own two R7's. I have taken about 130K photos with my original one, and I believe it is the best camera on the market > for my purposes < usually small, perched birds. But I think this really depends on ones personal uses. I'd return your purchase, and rent it first. Why take chances with such expensive equipment ?
@@KathyAdamsClark hey, I started with an R5 too :) It was a great camera, but for my purposes, I do better with the R7... which I why I sold the R5, and bought a second R7 :)
@@KathyAdamsClark when my photography buddy suggested I try the $1500 crop sensor R7, even though I already owned the $3900 FF R5, I thought he was crazy ! So I would have "never" just went out and bought it. But I rented it, and loved it so much, I ordered one of my own before I even returned the rental :)
Just got my R7 a couple days ago, and I appreciate your video helping me to get it going while I study the guides in detail. Nice job!
Glad the video could help, Charles. Thanks for the kind comment.
Thanks so much for sharing the video and the information, I'm in love with my new R7 👍
So glad I could help! Let me know if there are any questions.
Thanks, great walk-through.
Glad you liked it, Chris. It's nice to be able to help other photographers.

Thnx, where can i find the settings where u can change EVF resolution to 120fps, smooth mode?
Red Display menu 9 has the smooth feature. It's 119.88fps. I assume that's what you're looking for.
I'm getting a R7 tomorrow but after reading about focusing issues I'm beginning to think should I cancel my order is it really a good camera.
