i've spent 2 days trying to find out how to connect my Arturia KeyLab to LMMS, and then i saw your vid. The trick was to launch LMMS after connection - thank you soooo much 👍👍👍👍
“I haven't found a way of getting them to work. Frustrating I know... Soundfonts do work, as they have different notes mapped to different drums. You'd be able to map a single custom sample to the drum pads and do it that way if you're desperate, but no way of mapping custom samples that I know.”
Hi, i have a keyboard that has a midi usb cable, and windows recognises it as a device, but not a midi. so when im in lmms tryna choose a device for midi input, it doesnt show up. help please?
I cannot get the volume knobs to do what you show in the video, my MK2 Mini just makes the "solo" thing go read when I turn the knob and no volume change. Great tutorial anyways! Please help if you see this.
That was a very detailed video. I need something like that, but in the other direction. You mentioned other videos using the OUTPUT of MIDI to a instrument. Can you suggest one? I am using MIDI to play a Simmons SDS7 drum synth. I am interested in MIDI DRUM MAP capability for when the LMMS MIDI output does not match what the JL Cooper interface expects. Thanks!
ErickVlog hi, firstly make sure your keyboard is plugged directly into the fastest USB port you have (I.e. not using a hub) and then go into settings on LMMS. There should be a slider at the top that says buffer size, and when you change this the latency displayed below it also changes. Experiment with this and find the lowest latency you can without compromising playback (another tip to get this lower is bypass any demanding plugins). Aside from that I haven’t found any ways to get closer to real time midi input (another choice is perhaps to find a lite version of a software such as Ableton, which supports midi a lot better, and export midi files from there which is a bit fiddly but if you base your compositions on midi playing might be worth it) - hope this helps

is it possible to connect more tracks to the midi device without playing back all them at once, i mean if there were some solution in the midi tab to put one instrument to channel 1 other to channel 2 or something like this for now i was not able to solve it
everything works here, but notes get stuck - like on piano if you keep pressing the pedal - everything works fine with low velocity, but as soon as I press harder one gets stuck then all of the following notes get stuck like that
yes, the button next to the record button (looks like a play button inside a circle) records midi whilst listening to the rest of the tracks in the song editor. if you want to start the tracks from a particular point (i.e. you're not recording from the beginning) you can use the loop markers in the song editor to start playback from that point. Hope this helps!
I already know how to control the knobs with the dials and assign the midi keys unto a certain preset, but how do I make two or more presets sound individually and not at the same time when all (two or more) are connected to one midi device? Another thing as well, the drum pads cannot be assigned with drums or any sort of percussion. It just plays the lowest octave of the preset on the input of the midi device. It has been a week since I bought the Akai Mini and I'm still stuck at setup. I'm losing hope and is already planning to sell it.
There’s currently no way to do this in LMMS as far as I’m aware, as there’s no way to individually add a single note to a single key. I recommend using the drum map feature on the program REAPER, which is essentially free
Utterly disappointing. My friends are Ableton users, but I'll just stick with LMMS in the meantime. Maybe they'll be able to add this feature in the future.
You can set the AKAI pads to output on midi channel 10 [it defaults to sending on channel 1 but this can be changed to any midi channel] and use that exclusively for triggering drum sounds.
Hello, thanks for this clear tutorial. I just bought a M audio Keystation49MK3 and connected to the computer with Usb. It works in LMMS but. If i record notes in the piano roll, and move the pitchwheel i hear the notes changing and SEE the main pitch switch moving, but that movement is not recorded. In other words, is it possible to record keyboard knops on the fly, so without an animation track. Thanks a lot.

Hello, I have a question, how can I make the notes I play not necessarily align with the grid? I would like there to be a slight shift to make it more natural! ^^ Sorry for my English Thanks !

You've explained a lot in these short 8 minutes! Thanks, man! You gave me a slingshot into LMMS.
What about the drum pads? I simply can't find a video where explains about how to configure your drum pads into LMMS
seconded!!!
Same
Hi, sorry for the late reply. I’m afraid there’s no way of doing that so far, that I’m aware of. Hoping they add it soon!

This was a helpful tutorial but yes, I'm also having trouble doing that myself and that's why I was looking for videos like this.
it would be very useful to know this :) - if anybody get a solution pls tell us ! :)

Thanks dude this helped heaps !!!!
For the pads: the pad keyboard has to be configured to send value 1 as 1 and value 2 as 0 in toggle mode. This works for Alexis Vimini Midi keyboard.
Can u explain how to do this with each step I’m pretty new to this
What about the drumpads? Can they be used in lmms?

You have to use a drum kit, and use the pad as if it were a keyboard.

I'm thinking of doing a video on my favourite LMMS native effects soon, which include those used for trance :)
