    Just to give your viewers a wee bit of help, when you see 2 or more(typically 3) notes stacked vertically(on top of each other), these are chords, when you see 2 or more chords, this is a chord progression. A chord progression creates the harmony of the song. Below the harmony is the bass line. Above the harmony is the melody, which is a series of notes displayed in a horizontal fashion. Harmony-verticle Melody-horizontal. Hope this helps some of you. 99.9% songs have this structure, bassline, harmony, melody.

      Nope. 2 notes isn't enough for a chord 😉 Just try to guess, which chord is 2 notes: C and F?

    Making the "Counter melody" has always been the hardest thing for me. This helps a lot. Many tutorials out there just have the person throwing notes down and not really explaining outside of "because it sounds good." You showing your thought process helps a lot.

    I recreated the exact piano melody in this video on LMMS just to test it out, and I don't exactly know why or how to explain it, but for some reason the notes seem to be sort of "louder" or "harsher", and the audio of the notes themselves seemed to be too "short" no matter how long I made the notes

    I find myself always stuck after those steps. I don't know how to lead a song into that melody and chord progression, how to keep the song interesting and not too repetetive, how to end the song, how to make instruments sounds good. Everytime I would write a simple song on a guitar I'd struggle with developing it further, I'd find an interesting chord progression and melody but wouldnt know where to go from there, "should the song have a bridge section" or "should it also have a pre-chorus section". Do you plan it all out ahead or you kinda "send it" and shape the song as you make it? Btw, I found your channel yesterday and there's a ton of helpful material over here so huuge thank you for that!

    Something I don't notice right off the bass that you're not talking about volume control. Using volume control allows you to have a smooth and more realistic playing with a piano. Use volume control on the piano roll. I started doing this 6 years back and it's helped me a lot with a lot of smooth transitions. Without depending on automation.
    Another FX nobody ever mentions is FM detuning.

    • @lordxtheth2634
      @lordxtheth2634 4 года назад +3

      Sampling in LMMS is a little annoying, but once you figure it out, it isn't that hard.
      In your rack, you press the little "Add sample" button, and highlight a spot with the empty sample, then with your file thingy on the left you find your sample, then you hold CTRL and drag it on to the sample deal on the rack. It makes the sample for you the right size and same key and stuff. You still have to adjust it to the key of your song or whatever, but yeah. It's a little annoying compared to other programs, but you can get used to it.
