I love this video. Purchasing these games and trying out all of these mods was one of my motivations for getting a Steam account and expand from consoles to PC gaming. Interesting tidbit at 3:52; while I love this mod and it makes Light Speed Dash perform more akin to SA2 onwards, for some reason Metal Sonic can’t use Light Speed Dash period which made playing stages like Lost World And Final Egg awkward to play.
"Sometimes the XP bar will go down instead of up" Sounds like an underflow error. The Chao XP was probably only given a few bytes in memory and increasing the number by enough would cause it to loop to 0.
I believe the chao stats going down during your showcase of the Chao Stat Multiplier mod is just the intended function of Animals actually lowering the level bar down in certain cases. They don't actually lower the level or stats, just make leveling up a stat more of a chore if you want to raise a balanced chao. I am of course speaking in normal game means of course, I don't know if the mod actually breaks something about it.
I feel like you should include the "Egg Carrier Ocean Music" mod. Its a small and simple mod but it makes the egg carrier in the water feel so much better and more right (if that makes any sense)

Very helpful list, thanks. Been trying to look into what mods to install for my Steam versions of SA1 and SA2, and while many recommended "use this set" such as BetterSADX.... they didn't really go into detail of what they did, and I couldn't find a good list of which ones to pick. Most people were recommending the "Dreamcast Conversion" mod for SA1.... but that one apparently just turns the Steam version completely into the Dreamcast one, not what I was looking for, I was hoping to use mods to basically put in the best of all the different versions and ports of the game into one, not just completely turn it into a different version. This video really helped to pick out what mods to install. Not going to lie, I am not interested in changing the game to be "easier" or essentially cheat like instant dashes or stat increases or the like...... or add in fan/beta content, but all the mods that fix bugs, give better visuals, put back in effects and features that were removed, etc is what I have been looking for. Thanks
Another small but essential mod is the Perfect Chaos Music Swap mod. It simply swaps the music used in the 2 part Perfect Chaos fight to make the fight more epic. So part one is all tense and threatning and part 2 will then use the Open Uour heart theme. I always hated how it was originally so this is an awesome mod imo. Great video man and its exactly what Im looking for! So many videos claim to list "essential" mods for a game but its really just mods that change the game way too much and takes away from the original experience. Yours however are legit essential and worthwhile improvements. Thanks for this!
I forgot how it works in the original game. So is it Open Your Heart first, and then the less interesting instrumental track second? That's really strange and lame.
I remember you mentioning these mods on my Top 10 SA Improvements video from my old channel. Good to see them in action. I curse my computer for not being powerful enough.
NO. Do not use the Skip Credits option. It stops you from getting the emblem at the end of the story, and stops Super Sonic story from unlocking. You have to watch the credits in full to get them. So it's pointless as you'll have to watch via the character select screen anyway.
What i do is i skip the credits on my normal playthrough then at some point i play the credits of each of the characters and then in that time go do something else
@@oshaio1213 If you have unlocked all the emblems then the only way you can watch the credits is by selecting them from the character select screen. At that point watching the credits is your own choice so the skip credits option becomes pointless.
I thought the light speed dash on action button would make the game too easy, but honestly it really just makes it flow so much better. The way a Sonic game should.
It's not like there's anything challenging with holding down the spin-dash button for several seconds anyway. The mod just removes an unnecessary step.
It's times like these where I wish Sega actually went back to the Adventure style formula, because the Boost style has pretty much devolved and overstayed it's welcome and do wish to play as the other characters that isn't Sonic himself.
these games, specifically sa2, mean more to me than most things in the world. so people ensuring they live on makes me so happy i almost shed a tear lol.. thanks!
I really like how the current version of Chao World Extended [itself an all but required mod for chao enthusiasts like me] decided to leave Bright Chao in but made a buyable fruit available in case you do wanna fix them.
5:39 - Ah, I love me a good FIXED SFX *_VOUME_* modification. :-3 In all seriousness though, thank you for compiling these modifications into a video! :-D
The fast somersault is cool but unnecessary. To those who do not know, you can do something called "storage" where if you spin dash right as you are intended to somersault you will maintain, and in some cases increase your overall speed. It's SUPER easy to do, and has a very lenient time frame. I hope I help some of you learn something about my favorite game today.
3:44 I commented about that mod breaking the Super Sonic cutscene for whatever reason in the past and I’ve since found out that for some reason it clashes with the Playable Super Sonic Mod that comes with BetterSADX since I guess they use different aura textures. So just be warned if you decide to try then together. It seems the only solution is to turn off the Super Sonic mod until you beat the game or keep the Lightspeed Dash mod off when you want to use the Super Sonic one.
As a german, the translation error of the "bernoulli space colony" is really funny. In germany, there were similar tv shows to what you have/had as Bill Nye the science guy and so on. One of them always featured a quiz and no joke, Bernoulli was the answer to a majority of questions.
There are some sick mods you can cover in maybe a future video. Lots of updated SA2 mods now, like an enhanced and restored Chao Garden with updated features
SA2 is one of my favorite games, but that just might be the child hood speaking. I really enjoy mods that help make perfect experiences, some mods I didn't know existed.
There is a mod called HedgePannel that has the Fast Somersault mod integrated into it alongside many more features that enhance the speed stages quite a lot. I recommend you get that instead of Fast Somersault.
I never could get on with SA1 when I bought it, I loved SA2 but could never 100 percent it like I wanted to. Now Ima get both on PC and optimize through mods so I can finally work on those two again.

So in the original 2004 PC release of SADX, you were unable to have full analog movement controls. Being locked to 8 static directions to move in was awful. Is that fixed in these new versions of the game??? (Edit: yes, yes it is)

Came across this months ago and it hyped me up to get it on PC to try out the mods and experience the games again like how I did back on dreamcast but with the definitive improvements. Also fun finding and trying out other mods. Never realized the modding community was so active for the games. Great video man and its exactly what Im looking for! So many videos claim to list "essential" mods for a game but its really just mods that change the game way too much and takes away from the original experience. Yours however are legit essential and worthwhile improvements. Thanks for this!
Affirmative.
I forgot how it works in the original game. So is it Open Your Heart first, and then the less interesting instrumental track second? That's really strange and lame.
@@k-leb4671 Yup, thats how it works. The mod switches them.
I remember you mentioning these mods on my Top 10 SA Improvements video from my old channel. Good to see them in action. I curse my computer for not being powerful enough.
This channel deserves more recognition
4:36 whenever i play sa1 you know i'm re-watching those damn credits
If you want the Emblems, yes.
@@ChiefMedicPururu I just like the credits
NO. Do not use the Skip Credits option. It stops you from getting the emblem at the end of the story, and stops Super Sonic story from unlocking. You have to watch the credits in full to get them. So it's pointless as you'll have to watch via the character select screen anyway.
What i do is i skip the credits on my normal playthrough then at some point i play the credits of each of the characters and then in that time go do something else
i alt+f4 when the credits appear 😭
Unless you have all the emblems and the true final story unlocked so it's all right
@@oshaio1213 If you have unlocked all the emblems then the only way you can watch the credits is by selecting them from the character select screen. At that point watching the credits is your own choice so the skip credits option becomes pointless.
I love this. These changes could take a strong B+ game solidly into A tier for me. I'll have to test these changes, but I'm loving what I see
One of them is glitchy, tho.
@@ChiefMedicPururu Which one?
@@baharry The physics swap one.
Thanks I'll be playing through both of these games soon! These mods will make things a lot nicer!
I thought the light speed dash on action button would make the game too easy, but honestly it really just makes it flow so much better. The way a Sonic game should.
It's not like there's anything challenging with holding down the spin-dash button for several seconds anyway. The mod just removes an unnecessary step.
So many spectacular essential mods to use to have the definitive playthroughs of both Adventure games!
I'm so in on all of this right now.
It's times like these where I wish Sega actually went back to the Adventure style formula, because the Boost style has pretty much devolved and overstayed it's welcome and do wish to play as the other characters that isn't Sonic himself.
From one Sonic Adventure fan to another, thank you so much for this!
these games, specifically sa2, mean more to me than most things in the world. so people ensuring they live on makes me so happy i almost shed a tear lol.. thanks!
Sonic adventure retranslated be like
aw no this aint happenin'
I love the official CGI artwork for SA1 and SA2.
I really like how the current version of Chao World Extended [itself an all but required mod for chao enthusiasts like me] decided to leave Bright Chao in but made a buyable fruit available in case you do wanna fix them.
The voices of the Adventure cast will never be rivaled to me, but the other mods I would DEFINITELY use
5:39 - Ah, I love me a good FIXED SFX *_VOUME_* modification. :-3
In all seriousness though, thank you for compiling these modifications into a video! :-D
That physics swap stuff for the mech stages looks sick.
Wow i loved these games on the gamecube the way they were. But seeing this now has me excited to go back to them
The fast somersault is cool but unnecessary.
How is it a mistranslation?
There are some sick mods you can cover in maybe a future video. Lots of updated SA2 mods now, like an enhanced and restored Chao Garden with updated features
SA2 is one of my favorite games, but that just might be the child hood speaking. I really enjoy mods that help make perfect experiences, some mods I didn't know existed.
Excellent video this. Man the stuff people upload to RUclips never stops impressing me
I was searching for mods like this and couldnt find them, and i dont think im the only one so... thanks
Thanks a lot for highlighting these mods. Now I can finally experience the best versions of these games!
There is a mod called HedgePannel that has the Fast Somersault mod integrated into it alongside many more features that enhance the speed stages quite a lot. I recommend you get that instead of Fast Somersault.
there is a mod called DX characters refined, which fixes a bunch of issues with the dx models and is compatible with DC textures for DX characters too
0:46 is that my name and mod I see over there? 🤔
I never could get on with SA1 when I bought it, I loved SA2 but could never 100 percent it like I wanted to. Now Ima get both on PC and optimize through mods so I can finally work on those two again.
Also try the "Shadow has bounce bracelet" cheat that comes with the loader. I have no idea why shadow can't get the bounce bracelet, it's such a useful ability
I’m very glad I stumbled across this video. I wanted to replay these games but wasn’t sure what mods to look for. Thank you, you just gained a new sub!
Alternative title: “How to fix SA2 to be perfection” mod suggestions
Thank you so much to the awesome people who put these mods together! and Ruby of Blue for making a list.
Listening to the Japanese voices is crazy.
The Japanese voices are so good I love all of them Amy's is so cute 🥺 and sonic just sounds so cool
@@djschannelyep3283 But English=funny
amazing!! ive always noticed some graphical oddities when i was playing sa2b for the first time and i found out later that they came from porting the game, but i had no idea that these things were fixable!
Thanks for the mods! I've got both games, and I have to say, that while I have enjoyed every Sonic game I've played, SA 1 and 2 are my absolute favorites of the lot.
Playing SA1 right now. ...Fuck Twinkle Park... I had around 20 lives, and the bumper car section _alone_ took eight of them...
Thanks for this video, man. After watching a video earlier that reminded me why I love Sonic Adventure 2, this inspired me to buy and install it on Steam.
You know, action remap might mess with the controls as you need the y button for certain actions like magic hands and sunglasses
WOW I’m a huge fan of SA1 and SA2, never got them on the dreamcast but i played through Each on the gamecube dozens of times at least and i NEVER knew about the graphical downgrades on the gamecube version.
Same here.
Arin would still hate it
That being said I kind of want to play these again with these mods... Fluid af
meanwhile he liked forces lol
@@Blurro Ironically, not unironically. He still hates the franchise.
@@ChiefMedicPururu he was saying stuff like how he thinks forces "has made a lot of people happy" while playing it and it wasnt sarcasm
@@Blurro Wait, what?
Do people take Game Grumps seriously?
This will be my first time playing these games (fully- I did play a bit of Adventure 2) so I can't wait to play the best optimized experience on my first run through!
Still heated how sega didnt market more on the Chao garden. Makes me want to say fools
Gonna replay these games in March for preperation for the new Sonic movie. These mods look like amazing QoL changes to these games and cant wait to relive my nostolgia to these games. Thanks for the video! :)
I’m so happy that my favorite games are still getting this love
Please make videos like this but with other games. I would love to see what type of useful graphic mods to enhance my gaming experience and you have a way of saying it. Love the work dude
So in the original 2004 PC release of SADX, you were unable to have full analog movement controls. Being locked to 8 static directions to move in was awful. Is that fixed in these new versions of the game??? (Edit: yes, yes it is)
dude this video is so good, i always thought that the dx version was the best version due to better graphics but never played the dreamcast version of sa1 so im glad that i could have the chance to play the classic version since i dont own a dc
DX is a glitchy mess, anyway, so the mods fix DX.
Ahhhh, Sonic Adventure. The one game, that was hard to play because that one boy, and his brother hogged the dreamcast, in the game room...
Great video and best starting point for getting into/back into Adventure 1 and 2 in 2020, especially with the description links. Came across this months ago and it hyped me up to get it on PC to try out the mods and experience the games again like how I did back on dreamcast but with the definitive improvements. Also fun finding and trying out other mods. Never realized the modding community was so active for the games. Being able to play as Metal Sonic on any stage with an optional spindash and/or ball bounce mod in SA2 brings me great joy, since he's been my favorite character since I watched the Sonic OVA when I was 5. Linked this to a friend the other day who was wanting to play the Adventure games.
There are other mods he didn't talk about since then.
@@ChiefMedicPururu Any that come to mind? One I like is the mod that adds tons of new emerald shard locations in treasure hunt to spice things up, since I actually like treasure hunt. Also a mod to make eggman's stages playable for anyone and a few restoration mods that adds fog back to the forest level and the lighting effects back to eggman's first level. Also the Blaze mod is just cool.
@@Jordunk Do you have the mod that fixes the Ring count for many levels (and other gameplay oddities), the one fixing that crash in Pyramid Cave, those ones fixing the Chao Kindergarden and even the one that fixes Wild Canyon's Big cameo?
@@ChiefMedicPururu Oh, I've seen the level oddity one, but I don't think it works with the shard expansion mod I mentioned, so I don't have it installed atm. I THINK I have the big one, since I've seen other cameos of his on certain stages that were originally removed from battle iirc. Kindergarten mods I have is one fixing the black market sound effect and the kindergarten sign overlapping the hero garden stairs in the lobby. Other chao garden mod I have is the one that restores the dreamcast gardens layout. Pyramid one I didn't have, but just downloaded, thanks.
@@Jordunk You should try at least. Maybe it DOES work. I prefer the oddity one since White Jungle now CAN be Ring-perfected.
gamebanana.com/maps/209833
This fixes the Kindergarden.
Hey Ruby, I've been wondering, since you really love the Adventure games, have you played Spark the Electric Jester 2? It's made by LakeFeperd (the Before and After the sequel guy), and it's heavilly based off the Sonic Adventure formula, while also expanding upon it. Oh and since I know you're wondering, yeah it's got a deep story too. If you haven't played it yet I recommend it, since it will satisfy anyone's thirst for a Sonic game of that scope and scale.
9:00 The EXP bar goes down because animals can take away stat experience for stats they're 'bad at' as well. It won't cause a level-down, but it's always been there.
A bit late, but I've had it happen with Chaos Drives as well.
A couple mods I'm really fond of are the disable upgrade model mods. The original character models looks so clean until you start collecting upgrades but these mods fix this.
No lie, probably spent 4+ years in chao garden as a kid. Its was my favorite part. I had almost every version of every chao. I wish they'd bring it back because it adds so much replayability.
More sonic videos! All right this is happening.
The metal harbor music effects my heart I swear
Is there a voice mod where it fixes the off sync with the voices, I would love to see that kind of mod
There's one for SA2.
Thank you for this video and nice to use the Sonic R menu's song for the end!
Those are all great, but I'll keep with the English dubs. SA2 without Sonic going "I'll make you eat those words!" is worthless.
SA2 dub to subs: You're comparing yourself to me? Hah! You're not even good enough to be my fake!
@@Otome_chan311 SA2 Subs: *THAT'S THE FINAL STRAW!*
Please give us more mod showcases! I just found this video through my recommended and just finished your Halo mod videos. I love watching this kind of content!!
Thank you so much for making me aware of the re-translation mod! I've been playing with a good set of mods, but I thought I was just stuck with these horribly inaccurate subtitles. I'm not good enough at japanese yet to go without them, so it was pretty annoying to try to refer to them and always realize that they're just totally wrong. (Tails crashing the plane in the beginning is so much cuter in Japanese!)
hey i just wanted to say thank you! your modlist actually got me to replay sonic adventure 1! great video!!
The credits skip option doesn't give you the emblem for completing the story though.
Yeah, Ruby forgot to mention this. OOPS! They coded it so you HAVE to watch them to get the Emblems.
Had a lot of these mods installed before but quite a few I didn't know about so thanksfor this. Makes me want to reinstall them again.
Which ones do you have?
You forgot the super sonic in sonic adventure 1 mod that restores a feature that was originally going to be in it.
also theres this if you like sa2 and wished some of it was in sa1(also this mod adds hyper sonic) ruclips.net/video/8ct1mYr06u0/видео.html
chao world extended
oh yeah, Super sonic kinda goes crazy in Emerald Coast. You tend to fly past the orca section and drown...
Thank you, these really are essential and your passion was very motivating
There’s a mod that remaps the Light-Speed Dash in SA2? This is perfect, that solves the game’s biggest issue, it’s what I’ve always wanted!
Also, does anyone know how to activate the slide for the fast somersault?
included in the mod. just a little boolean to modify
Click on the fast somersault mod then click configure (below the mod list) and there you can activate the slide
Thank you so much for this! I absolutely loved this game as a kid!
I didn't mind the English dub of these games Sonic still sounded cool and had actual personality compared to recent games and I do admit the translation could of been better but not the worse compared to Sonic games we have now I miss Sonic from the adventure era to unleashed cause Sonic and characters personalities didn't change much til Sonic colors and generations where everyone makes immature jokes and self aware humor everyone in the recent games sounds like dumbass
Hearing Metal Harbour is very nostalgic. I first played SA2 about 10 ish years ago on the Gamecube and remember all the great levels
