  • Come along on a little adventure searching the north beach on the Virginia side of Assateague Island; coming across a few things that are not that common on this shore; some pounding waves in the background, make it a little noisy, but fun; feeling like a lone survivor during the pokyclipse or something, only my tracks in the sand, unusual for this place.

What part of the island are you at?

This is on the Virginia side of Assateague, in the Chincateague National Wildlife Refuge. You can part in the parking lot for the Wildlife Loop, then either walk or bike up to "D" dike. From there it's a beautiful 8 mile walk to the Maryland border.
The south beach is open now, a person can go 7 miles south to the end, known as the "Hook". Great place to look for Whelk shells. Please remember that if you want to drive OVER SAND that you must have a current OSV pass/sticker and a sand kit.
