Good idea on the 5 core cable across to the HU. Pillar pod is keeping the interior tidy and uncluttered. And to the untrained eye, that is the correct way to use thread tape 👍 have watched people do it wrong and struggle. Keep it up!
Just another little wiring hack. If your using multi-core wire and you need to solder/connect the wires near the same spot try to stagger the cuts so that when you wrap or sheath over the connections the wire loom is as thin as possible plus it looks much neater. Dude great video's and I'm just about to sell my current car and pickup a GU to start some long outback tours.
Just to let you know, EGT readings can drop over 200 degrees after the turbo so 400 degrees is more like 600 in the engine. Mighty GU is coming together mate, cant wait for the new suspension. 👍
@@andrewcoulter323 this is exhaust temperature. It gets lower through the turbo as the heat and pressure is used to drive the turbine. As above, @ 200 degrees on boost, and not much drop at all off boost.

Gotta go the redarc when on special, you get 3 gauges in one. I run a boost, pyro and trans temp in one, then engine oil pressure, coolant temp and engine oil temp in another, then dual battery voltage and alternator amp in the last one. Neat, quality and every thing viewable at a glance, can also set up alarms. Not to mention it all looks shmicko. Also running a dimmer
I'm liking what I see so far. The one thing I don't understand is big wheels but no suspension. I can just see the damage that will happen if it's not done
Resonator for sure. Might just keep you legal as well noisewise. I got a noise pollution notice and when tested my resonator got me 1db under amazingly. Nice vid mate im thinking of doing a pillar pod and this gave me good info.
A Small Note: because of the way that bung is sticking into the intake pipe it will read a lower pressure than what the combustion chamber is actually seeing. It’s called Bernoulli’s principle if you want to know why.
Great video. Thanks mate. FYI - My gauges came with O-rings. I placed the O-ring on the end of the gauge and it rolls up the gauge casing as you push it into the housing, locking the gauge in place.
The exhaust will cause boost spike problems. Did with my zd30 and cracked a piston just something to keep a eye on. If engine light for boost pressure appears it's to late
For a nice clean and stock looking interior check out some of Kenay customs stuff 👌they have a pretty good range for patrols. I have brought a pillar pod and some custom switch panels and uhf panel but they have heaps of stuff that you would like
+1 for the single hex. Did extractors in my tb48 and they haven't had been taken off since brand new lol. Though for penetrating fluid I prefer inox as it doesn't gum up like wd40 tends to
I know the pain of that air-con line. The ST-L has rear air-con which Nissan made a PITA Y pice pipe which as stated, sandwitched between chassis and body. If you undo whole pipe and get creative (slight bending), you can get it out whole. Welding needs a lot of filler around the known cracking point. When you have done it, wrap it in foild tape or other heat proofing to stop the zorst cooking the lines. Standard Snail is not designed to go to 30 PSI dude, not even close. Para-cord grab handle between top stock screw hole and use the blanked hole further up for the LH drive top handle. Get a muffler on the farter. Open pipes don't sound cool on a four-banger guys.
Hey man love the videos, personally I would put a resi on the exhaust. Turbo spool sounds good but the thong slap up in the high rev range gets annoying and may be bit noisy for your young fella if trying to sleep in the car. As for the gauges yea they look sick but the quality isn’t there, my mate has same brand and his egt shit the bed after 3 months and the boost is inaccurate. I personally spent a bit more on Autometre Cobalt series gauges and they are great, accurate and built well. May not have the colour choice but I like the blue back light that comes standard and just have a dimmer to adjust brightness.

Man oh man, I'm following you closely as you're doing the things I wish to do, except I got a 2¾" Beaudesert exhaust from new, well drove from Bathurst to Beaudesert first on original exhaust. Primarily I noticed the turbo lag greatly improved, it pulled so much better low down. Curious, did you refit that infernal heat guard over the turbo or bin it? I've had mine off & refitted, it's a shit of a thing to work with. My son fitted a 3" exhaust on his Patrol and binned the guard. Appreciate the guidance on picking up all power requirements from areas of head unit, honesty never thought of it, uh. I reckon you'll find the exhaust note a tad annoying on hwy runs. I'd fit a resinator. Keep up the guidance, thanks. Oh, I now know to avoid damage to aircon line, that was really unfortunate, that shit of a guard. Update: Well it's now December and I have installed a Redarc G52-BET with SAAS 36mm radiator hose sensor block as you show in this clip. Truly alarmed by my EGT's easily reached 600°c and occasionally 700°c, not good, water temps hitting 110°c. Too radical for my liking. I have just had a cross country intercooler with fan installed and a tune done, significantly reduced my EGT's, now reaching 450°c where it went to 600°c previously. My torque has increased 67% and power 50.5%. Owned my Patrol from new, it is a significantly better vehicle to drive now, and not the worry it was with EGT so easily climbing into the danger zone. Would I consider a 4JJ1 conversation as you have elected to do? Only if or when my ZD30 shits itself and I'm confident that won't happen now I've got temps under control, so my answer is no, remaining a true Patrol at the moment.

Mate i know the pain on removing that heatshield. Sucks about the aircon. Personally i never bothered with a seperate boost gauge and water temp on mine - just use a scangauge.
With the new exhaust I bet it throws an engine code at light throttle application at around 100kph eventually Overboosting code Have to start playing with the turbo actuator , or take it to a reputable tuner
Must have missed the notification for this episode. To me, oil pressure is more important than coolant temp seeing as you already have a factory standard coolant temp gauge, but only oil level gauge, not oil pressure gauge

Bro heat shrink and solder. Tape eventually looses the glue and comes off and being a 4wd when your off road all the shakes and rattles will ground a wire making it short out and catch fire
Hey mate they are all solderd, I then just wrap in tape individually and then wrap it all as one as the heat shrink is a bit of a pain to work with sometimes on small wires and being so close together

Dulux have a spray paint called chalk or something that's almost an exact match for the nissan grey trim pieces. I have the can in my shed from when I made a pillar pod for my nav and painted it

Best place for trans oil temp is on the cooler outlet in the elbow fitting on the trans. Shows the actual temp of the internals that way and much quicker to show temp rise. In the pan or cooler return shows oil after its been cooled and is nearly useless. Trans is toasted before that oil shows hot. Rocket Rod has a fitting kit for these....
I love the look of the factory s4 front bumper... I can't find a new GU s4 factory front bumper anywhere there rare as hen's teeth these day's lol I had to go with cheap ugly factory alloy bullbar until I can find one
defs need something on the exhaust mate, 4 cylinder straight pipes sound like a wet fart, i'll be the first to admit that and i have a zd30 gu aswell. DO you just friction fit your gauges into place? I use that little C shaped steel bracket that always comes with gauges.
Just watch out with the EGT sensor from Savage, there crap and fail after about 3months atleast mine did, and many others in NZ, you might get lucky with in been lower down and away from the heat source

@@RoamLyfe I had the hotdog version of this kit, lasted about a week before I ordered the muffler. Drone was particularly bad around 2100rpm, which is unfortunately about where it cruises on the highway. At least with 33s and an auto box.
I got a straight through 3 inch manta on mine with a hotdog and it's not overly droney or loud at low rpm. It is manual though and running 21psi boost so it's not exactly quiet
Maybe it's the auto and stock tune, or I'm just getting old! The sound was fine everywhere except that 2000-2200 rpm mark, which is pretty much where it likes to sit on the highway. I've thought about trying a quarter wave resonator, because I do miss the exterior sound. But it still sounds better than stock with just the single muffler. Plus the benefits of 3" on EGT etc.
I just saw this before I watch this video and it is very applicable. "Every 30 minute job is a broken bolt away from a 3 day ordeal"

I heard it gets heated up by the turbo on the way outnsonxinder temps are normally 100° lower, so 400° egts is 300° cylinder temp.... 🤷

That A/C pipe is really common to crack, the later version of that pipe is not welded at that point, it has a clamp holding the two pipes together.

With those gauge pods there's a rubber oring they hold the pod in the gauge trust me it works well

How do you go about plugging in a trans temp gauge? is there a dedicated spot? I've got a TB48, think its mated to a RE5R05A.

I've thought about trying a quarter wave resonator, because I do miss the exterior sound. But it still sounds better than stock with just the single muffler. Plus the benefits of 3" on EGT etc.

1000000% get an EGT (Exhaust Gas Temperature) very useful, can fuck yah car up if you don't care about your EGT.

bugger sucks about breaking the aircon pipes.. the fuse box is under the guages straight to the lighting with a doubble fuse I did .
