I went bluegill fishing on lake ida with my buddy @JohnnyStabile who is also a charter captain in South Florida. Johnny specializes in Clown knife fish and peacock bass. Bluegill are fun an easy to catch. I show you an awesome bluegill recipe at the end of the video as well. Everybody always fries up bluegill. I changed it up and made bluegill gumbo, hope you enjoy!

Great video Viktor! Had a blast fishing with you and Johnny. The gumbo was delicious. Good times! Looking forward to your next videos.
Next stop Georgia for some GIANT Flatheads!
@@LandsharkOutdoors awesome
Johnny's glasses tan is NEXT LEVEL!
Sometimes I look at him and I'm in shock hahah, it always looks worse on video too
He looks like a racoon😂
I've eaten fried Bluegill all my long life and I love it just plain old fried whole. This was an eye opener for sure and also for folks that are or came up poor like us, soups and stews are a great way to stretch things out. BUT you gotta have some okra in that gumbo son!
What's the most exclusive, most highly sought-after seat in South Florida? A seat at Brook and Vic's table!
hahaha thank you!
Love Jonny's eye mask after a day of fishing, lol
Yes, it is a different species of bluegill, they are a cross with the green sunfish and grow larger and faster than non hybrids. The are more yellow and gold than the darker non hybrid.
There's a pond build guy on YT that stocked them, (The Oak Throne pond)
Thanks for the info!
BamaBass is the channel name. That pond build series has been amazing.
@@scottkinnebrew7924 Thanks, channel named escaped me and I was too lazy to look it up. Yes, informative as well.
@@scottkinnebrew7924 His pets are going to think it's a fishy Golden Corral when he puts them in there with all that forage.
Fantastic fishing, this lake has a lot of fish, Congratulations you are an excellent professional fisherman!
I love your videos!🎣🥰
Hugs and Happy Fishing!👍
Your friend I Is awesome for what he does… that being said the peacocks were brought in for the tilapia that where illegal released in the 80s
Wow... Smoking the fish looks so awesome... Guess, what? Every dish I watch you prepare, I try it with veggies!! Hahaha... Yes, I do... Instead of fish, I use potato!! I am a secret agent in my own kitchen.. Even my wife doesn't know that I do all these.. 😛 Saving it all for a big day!! But, I always love and respect the way you cook.. You always have the same respect for the food and its ingredients like me!! Loads of love from India..
I love yall cooking portion because of Victor forever surprising recipes is awesome 👌 . However, stay blessed and be safe out there 🙏
I love how they're saying no one wants these fish when in reality they are a staple in raw fish Sushi!
Yum, white flesh small flakes. I use a small nozzle on water hose, blast the scales off, from tail to head, fillet and pack into wide mouth jars, fill with a vinegar based pickling solution.
Oh viktor you knew the trinity was green peppers but you just had to have that color from the red pepper.
And you need some potato salad under that gumbo but it looks delicious great job
I like the way you cook. you did that right, lots of people dont stray from the norm.
I'm a yacht chef, captain fisherman, i was thinking you would screw up, you nailed it
Greetings from NYC. You guys make a "city slicker" want to head down south to catch them fish and make that food. Man, it looks delicious. Great video. Thanks for sharing.
i’ve been wait for this one! 😎
Hard to beat bluegill fishing. And I really dig that Last Mango shirt and hat, Captain Johnny! Fins Up!
Don’t know about down there in Florida, up here we scale, head and gut them and fry them up with fins and skin on. Lots of good flavor in the skin and the fins are like potato chips. You just use a fork and the meat slides right off the bones. Gotta give it a try.
Bigggg Bluegill guy
northern indiana hoosier here my fav fish to eat your the first fla fisheman channel ive seen with bluegill never knew you even had them down there lol, cool-always called them blue gill
Cheers from Florida!
Here in SC we have those big flatheads too, we use hand size bluegill
HE SAID IT! You really do make me want to spend time in FL.
Great fun!
In Alabama we call them brim. My brother-in-law used to catch them all the time when I was growing up. He taught me how to clean them too.
always great to see you cuzzin on your A game and focused on family friends and God!
Gary using the Zebco, then breaks his pole. LOL
I KNOW you had fun because I had fun too, and I only got to watch!
Thanks for posting this fine video!
Never get tired of your videos man…. Do some ice fishing soon! I’d love to see that on your channel
Finally a meal I think I could out do Vic. I love gumbo and bluegill.
Happy birthday, Brook!🎂🍻
heat dances around my palette 😂 it's actually a great description just funny and can't take it seriously with the horrible sunglasses tan hahaha
Fun to see freshwater species on your channel. Hit some flyover states sometime. I know you get this in the comments every video. There is so much out there. I'd like to see you guys ice fish northern pike with spears, take a charter trip trolling lake Michigan, catch catfish on the Mississippi in the state where it begins, shoot Asian carp with a shotgun, etc., etc.
😊😊😊😊😊😊😊 I like to fish worms without a sinker as well. There's nothing like watching your line shoot off like a rocket!!!!!
No wounder Vick your food on the grill is magic. Haha that easy bake. 🍲😋 Stop making me want to eat every time I see you cook.
Blue gill gumbo, interesting. I'm on a mission now, but first I have to make a lobster stock, catching the blue gill is the easy part. Great video Vic, Happy Birthday Brook 🎂🎈
Panfish of all sorts are a blast to catch!
Especially on the light gear!
I hit "show more" below your title looking for Johnnie's channel and there's nothing there!
Am I in the wrong place? 😎
I will try your receipe with sun fish up north Quebec , Viktor keep up the good work!
20:36 damn that looks amazing.
So jealous
Every time I see ur friend he always had the mark of his sunglasses
I love being from SW florida we are the Fishing MECCA.
Bluegill are my favorite freshwater fish to eat. Firm tasty
Loved the video, I am going to check out Johnny for a possible charter. We have 2 or 3 kinds of bluegill here in Maine. We call them sunfish, and they don't get that big! Those were chonkers.
Use circle hooks instead of those straight wire long shank hooks. With circle hooks, bluegill, bream, shellcracker, warmouth perch, etc., are almost always caught in the corner of the mouth or around the edge of the mouth.
Always a blast Vik 🤙
With a little smaller flexible knife you can go up and back down on the bones covering the stomach. The stomach piece is the best part of the whole bluegill. I always fry mine in seasoned cracker meal. That "chip" gets very crispy and lots of them never make it to the table.
He's so right!! When I was a kid I was terrified after I got finned and it hurt like hell! Learned the hard way and got spiked by a baby channel cat that was even worse so I had to learn 2 different ways to hold those fish. Lol
They really taste nice fried
Ok try this Fillet method on gills, Cut fillet of w ribs, put knife where rib ends are push straight down to the skin twist knife back up to the ribs and follow ribs out then skin. this will get the pin bones
home boy needs to go a day with his sunglasses! lol
I gotta give u and A for this dish # very creative
Happy Birthday!
FYI- leave the skin on, without the scales, for extra flavor. Give it a try
Man Vik you need to come up to Georgia and we can show you how to can catch some specks and bluegill and some refind and largemouth bass and even spotted bass
Great video 💪💪
Thanks for watching
🔥love the vids
Thanks for watching!
Think Johny forgot to take his shades off for dinner 😂😂
Constant bangers
'Just dances around on my palate...'
Trolling for his own cooking show too?
Great video!
Yum!
HES COOKIN BLUEGILL ITS FINALLY HAPPENING
New fun! Liked
Those perch that yal were catching are call cooper head perch you see the copper color patch on the head
I got some shiny pinkish and kind of golden looking. When i cut it for bait the meat was also shiny, pinkish
I love my bream whole lots of bones but so good
If you haven’t tried them just scaled, gutted and fried until they are crunchy, then you haven’t enjoyed bluegill/sunfish. Even crappie I do like that and they are amazing. For a more simple way at least
And be sure to add a side of hush puppies please!
@@alycerichmond8041 OMG YES!!!
We fry our 'Gills because it is hands down the best tasting freshwater fish!!! I'm sure that gumbo was good, but all those spices and other ingredients covered up the delicate sweet flavor of the 'Gills!
Vik on the freshwater fish 💙
Thanks for watching! Hahahah I can see why you like it so much
Y’all should try lake havasu in Arizona for the bluegill over there it’s world renowned for trophy bluegill it would be an awesome video
They are brim!! Lol best flathead bait in the world
The colours of the fish is really dependent upon the area of water they stay in. Up here in NJ, the Raritan River by New Brunswick, the banks are mostly red/orange clay and slate. So the water gets to be a muddy orange look that the bluegills and sunfish in it also develop a weird orange colour. First time I saw them when fishing there, I thought the fish were infected or something. They were fine, just how the fish adapts to its surroundings. Also, the red belly sunfish and pumpkinseed sunnies have a darker meat than the bluegills or crappies. The sunfish and pumpkinseeds do not taste as good as the bluegills or crappies, IMHO.
Fry em whole ! Best way to eat it or make larb. Look up larb. It's a lao/thai fish
Thanks for watching!
Mine is this weekend also.
Happy Birthday!
Sunday is my Birthday, so Brook and I are crabs. Happy Birthday young lady ❤
Great video as always. I love your videos and I have learned a lot from watching. I do have to say something about the seasoning…Cajun cooking you have to use the Tonys dude! Lol I have a few Cajun friends and they swear by it and won’t use anything else. I’m sure you already knew that but I had to say it! Lol
Whats up Vic?? Them bluegills taste good!!!
Delicious!
When are you coming back up here to the OBX to do some land based shark fishing? Blue gill are delicious and have been a table fare of the south forever. even the tails fried are great and i dont like eating fish usually.
Do IT !!!
Just got in Louisiana to see family. You should come down here for the big catfish we got
Garry and I are talking about setting up a trip
Is Gary catching the flatheads in the altamaha river in ga? I live like 5 mins from the main boat ramp.. been killing them big ol cats!
Bubba, I'm up near Athens. I can I'm game to come fish the Altamaha! Hit me up!
Great video thanks for sharing 🥇 🥈 🥉 💥💥💥
Thanks for watching!
Were I live here in south Texas, San jacinto river ,and trinity are full of big kitty's
yesiiirrrrr
Thanks for watching!
Have you ever tried a shrimp shell and head stock for gumbo vs chicken, definitely better for seafood gumbo. I want to try lobster stock.
Always kills me, you all don't eat the belly meat, carcass, or skin. At least you do use some for stock. But man, I'll take those belly nuggets
To clear the confusion of bluegills. Their are two types of bluegill. The northern strain bluegill and southern strain bluegill which is called the coppernose bluegill. Coppernose bluegill are a sub species of bluegill which have adapted to the warmer climate of the the southern United States hence why they appear so different from their northern relatives. Both species are still considered to be known as Lepomis Macrochirus.
Got to love Google huh buddy
There are a TON of species people call bluegill! And some of them look nothing like bluegills except for size & general body shape.
@@mikemoore1687 😂
Tasty!
Bluegill on the fly rod is proper fun. Little rippers.
Aww man I wish they’d come up for us!
@@LandsharkOutdoors for sure, y’all did it right. keep them coming!
Nice vid Vik I’ve been in the hospital and haven’t seen the videos in a bit. Are you training for a bodybuilding contest.
same fish
Great looking dish- and you are an excellent cook. One very small point of contention...You made a bluegill sauce piquant. A bluegill gumbo would have okra added right after the trinity. Still, I'd eat what you made.
Everything is traditional with Gumbo. If it flies, swims, walks or crawls it goes in the pot.
That’s how my papa used to eat the fish he caught bluegill, catfish.. cook it whole and eat the fins like a potato chip😅
Hi guys from italy!!
Cheers from Florida
Gotta agree with you Viktor, those bluegill are a very unusually proportioned fish, they look like they shouldn't work!

You get a bigger fillet off a bluegill than I can off a sheepshead 😂
💯💯

What kinda of rod was johnny using?
