  • Thomas Sankara was an African revolutionary who led Communist Burkina Faso from 1983 until his murder in a 1987 coup d'etat launched by one of his closest friends, Blaise Compaore. Sankara's death meant the end of Burkina Faso's best chance to modernize and escape crushing poverty. Sankara's reforms, which has drastically improved the standard of living in Burkina Faso, were all undone by Compaore, dooming Burkina Faso to decades of suffering. Many across the political spectrum have praised Sankara's leadership as exemplary and the best Burkina Faso ever had. And so, today we explore what might have happened in an alternate universe where Thomas Sankara was never betrayed, and the Burkinabe Revolution never ended.

I want you to make a clip. What if the Soviet Union had not collapsed? The Soviet Union did a great job of reforming its economy to be free but still being a dictatorship. I really like it.❤️

I was wondering if you could do a what if on if Pinochet’s junta never rose to power in Chile and if Chile’s maintained its democracy through the 70’s and 80’s and how it may have dealt with its position surrounded by US supported dictatorship like Argentina. The point of deprivation is easy to find through the Schneider Affair. Réne Schneider was the commander in chief of Chile’s armed forces and coined the Schneider doctrine where the military should remain apolitical as he was a stance constitutionalist and he was killed around the 1970 Chilean election after his attempted kidnapping was botched and as a result it led to Prats replacing him as commander in chief and the figurehead of the Schneider doctrine and was replaced by Pinochet.

Thanks for the suggestion! I'm quite familiar with the Allende era myself, and have long toyed with the idea of making a what if about this, it just keeps getting pushed back by other scenarios. I'm not sure when it will come out, but I'll officially add it to my to-do list.
      Best,
      Alrighty

@@TheAlrightyOnethank you, I really enjoyed the content you put out and for shining light onto parts of the world that is often overlooked or forgotten by people in the history community. I not only hear alternate history that is very interesting, I also managed to learn a lot about said nation.
