Looks like a great place to start and build my base again and polish up(since all i know is bits from here and there). And see that you haven't posted in a month. Hey, I had a question about patterns. Is it possible to make a custom painted image with a cutout of randomized patterns?
Do you want to use a pattern that can also be randomized? If so, then in Custom Paint Job the pattern will not appear as you would expect. However if you want it to be constant (Not changing per drop) then you can apply whatever pattern on your model in Blender, bake the material and that's it (Basically what you would do with any other skin).
