By far my favorite engine (Pre-Emissions of course) along with the Cummins N14. Easy to work on, reliable, good power, all around good motor. They don’t make them like they used to thats for sure.
Harry, emission control has changed the game.
Good video. Hope in the future you can do more brief engine vids like this such as all the different variations of the Cummins ISX, CAT engines, Volvo D12 and D13, etc.
West, great idea for a video topic
nice new facility shop. Hope you make a video about new equipment. Thanks
I got a 2006 4900ex with a 14L took that egr off motor is great! Lots of power
Thank you, I’m new to trucking only know about Peterbelt/kenworth caterpillar and paccar.
Never dealt with freightliner or Detroit engines.

What!!!! I have a 2008 60 serious, that engine is the best!14 liter real reliable engine, the best!!!
I have the 2008 14L d60s, getting a COMPLETE rebuild right now at a really good shop, getting out the shop next week.
Got any advice for me for upkeep and things to do?
@@JayRossTVision how’s that truck running bro ?
Thinking about getting a 2009 the engine was rebuilt 2 years ago.
Got a 09 d60S 14L. Removed all the bs clogging dirty air system and got it tuned in Tampa FL. The engine runs great and I get a nice 7.5mpg. I think all d60S engines are great, It comes down to the driver/owner if he wants to get it running right. Congratulations on the shop your channel is always on point!
Where in Tampa they did your motor thanks
@@smooth267 no sir, I got the computer tuned in Tampa. I personally took the VNT,VGT turbo, DPF and the EGR. Then I took it to Andersons in Tampa to get the computer tuned.
Jay, thanks for sharing and watching.👊🏼🔧👍🏼

@@JayRossTVision I would suggest good oil every 15k-20k miles. Take your time breaking the engine in. Try to stay light on the loads for the first 20k-30k miles.
Great videos, my friend. Subbed and following your channel for a while now. Good stuff.
Question: There are a lot of cascadias now with detroit 60 series. Ppl have been ripping off the dd15 and replacing it with the old-school 60 series. What paperwork do you need of that engine belonged to another truck that might be dead. Do you buy the engine with the old trucks title or !?!?! What's legal? What's illegal 🤔. Perhaps a good topic for another video. Thanks
We need video about pros and cons in diferents Cummins isx engines after N14 was discontinued.
nice video
Hi.
Thank you for all the info about big rigs, I've seen most of your videos, but I was wondering, unless I missed it, how come you don't talk much about Cummins N14?
Hey there. Can you do a video about the N14 Cummins engine?
Got a freight shaker classic 99 with 12.7 recent overhaul, turbo wasnt included in the oh but i can replace it later. Very happy with my purchase, texan truck wo you already know no rust on chasis. No e logs amd no emmissions😁
Steer wheel holder, thank you for sharing, and thank you for watching 👊🏼🔧. Emission 60 series can be a good engine as long as it is properly maintained
And nogood company hires you, great truck..all wires needs replacement
@@ictviamfortruthgoogleisspa5886 im leased onto a very good carrier and i havemt had any wire issues exceot the front bumper lights i recently installed but that was a loose ground
@@ictviamfortruthgoogleisspa5886 by good company, do you mean mega carriers? Lol because theyre the only ones that dont lease on trucks older than 10 years, why would i want to lease onto a mega carrier??
@@Montoya1991 ?i font know no mega carrier's, but yes lots of companies dont take old trucks , what do you mean by Lease? Subcontractor as OO ?
Short and straight to the point.Older models are better
What about the 11.1 L you didn’t mention that one., I don’t know anything about it but my uncle is a diesel mechanic and was just over here yesterday and told me about it a little. Thanks for the info tho 👍😎
2016 Western Star Glider EPA98 12.7 18spd 3.55…can I get a witness 🙌🏻

Nice
Trucking Jamaicans, thanks for the comment 👍🏼
I had a 14L s60 legacy non egr in my 2013 western star 4884fx 4864fx . Only in the nz an oz market tho cause of our heavy weights I believe
Are you saying that in the US is hard to find reliable after-market parts? I am surprised!
Can you do a PAI Parts review?
What you charge to inframe and out of frame a motor
I have a freight shaker fld 120 12.7 have Two million miles on engine block 4yrs ago I rebuild n put a new bull gear just put a borg Werner turbo it's a beast
Jeff, thanks for sharing. FLD definitely can be a shaky ride. Chassis suspension gets pretty worn as well.
@@TATEXPRESSINC I appreciate the flowers 😎
What is bull gear
I'm in a process of rebuilding the head what I have is a 2007 14 l 60 series and I'm wanting to put it on a 2004 engine wanting to know if it will work both engines are 14 l Detroit's they also have different parts numbers and I'm being told that it won't work so can I get some advice from you what to do
Bro how much to rebuild 2 differential on freightliner Columbia ?
I’m getting my first truck soon and its a 60 series 2002 so I guess I’m in the clear
Is a 2006 DD60 on a rv okay, or should I go with the cummins ISM instead? Thank you
You didn’t mention anything about the early 60s series, I have a 1987 12.7 L 60 series. The very first year it was produced. What are your thoughts on those
Bullet proof engine, just like N14.
Do you guys stock reman pre egr series 60's? In the market I a older 98 ddec3 I want to swap out
i have a 94 12.7 detroit its pre emission you said 98 to 2007 original
How about the 1997 12.7? Why did you start with 1998?
Is the 01-04 14L Elog except?
All the trucks I look at have on averge 1 million miles idealistic how many miles can you get out of a 14 liter 60 series be for it requires inframe so I can know how to negotiate $$
How many overhauls can you get out of 12.7 pre emission block
I would like to know
can you assist me when i want to buy horses/tractors or trucks from there?
I stay in the area and came across your video. I got 2014 cascadia dd13, I am looking for good, honest, affordable shop to start bringing my truck for service. Can you help? What is your labor rate?

What happen with the 11.0 L????
Tengo una pregunta si puedo enviar mi computadora de mi camion el cual es 60 sirie distrito lo que pasa es que compre el camion y el dueño anterior le puso otra computadora y ahora quiero saber si uds me pueden retrogradar gracias
I have a 14ltr in an 06 freightliner classic. It was deleted before I bought it. I have a 13spd with 3.42 rears with 11r22.5 tires and I haul big over sized loads. What would be the best rpms to try and get better fuel jugs? I'm currently getting between 3.5 and 5mpg. I'm usually running between 1400 to 1500 rpms.
You should get it checked out by someone with the proper Laptop and Software. You should be getting better MPG than that.
Holly shit, i thought mine 6mpg was bad 😁
I mean, if you’re hauling actual oversized loads you may be getting reasonable fuel economy. More info needed to give you much of an answer. Peak torque should be in the 1250rpm area, that is generally where you SHOULD find the best economy, but in the real world that may not be the case. Also bear in mind that at lower RPM at full throttle there are less injection events per minute, so it’s usually more fuel efficient to be full throttle at a lower RPM than 80% at a higher RPM. Change gears early to accelerate faster. Sounds weird but works.
Just purchased a 16 Cascadia/ DD15/10spd with 482k on Her. At what mileage should I expect to start putting money into her? Thanks in advance!
Save as much as you can for repairs, and i mean as much as you can. When those emmissions break (and they break at around that mile marker, and thats the reason fleets get rid of them at 400k) those are super expensive to repair. Just save ur money as much as possible. Those trucka use less fuel but you need alot more money saved up for emmision repairs. Goood luck
@@Montoya1991 ....Appreciate you adding on. She in the shop now getting a physical. Going to change the DPF filters as well. Again....Appreciate the advice!
True, most maintenance is due at that mileage. DEF filter replacement, DPF replacement, valve adjustment, air dryer, and soot cleaning. Keep in mind all engines require maintenance. Lack of maintenance will increase the cost of all repairs.
@@TATEXPRESSINC ..Thank you Sir! Just watched your live on DD15 video and most common issues with it. I should of watched them first before asking a question. Nonetheless, Thank you for the swift response 🙏🏾.
1 year late but thanks haha
I have 2006 series 60 with 1.8m no overhaul yet
12l or 14l?
@@jaygon2877 14
This is a nice general overview. I would add that the EPA 04 model really isn’t that bad. The EGR system will cause a minor uptick in repair cost and has a couple quirks that can be tough to diagnose, but you really want to avoid and EPA 07 S60. They’re junk. Do not buy one. Injectors and components relating to the regen process are unreliable and cause major issues with repair cost. The cost to overhaul is significantly higher as well, and you should not even consider it an option.
Now I’m going to step on my soap box for a second...
I would also agree with the videos assertion that after 2015 (I would say 2013 with the GHG14) the DD platform stabilized and many of the annoying kinks were ironed out. 2013-2016 CPC shortages are still an issue. Look for a GHG17 model or newer, and if you are buying the new Gen 5 platform there are some more quirks that are being diligently sorted out by Daimler and should be resolved soon. If you are buying a new truck DO NOT SKIMP ON FACTORY WARRANTY COVERAGE. Get all the warranty coverage available to you. If you need it, it will pay for itself. Watch your idle time, bump up your RPM to at least 800 when sitting, and stick to recommended maintenance intervals.
PS, don’t be a dick and buy a short nose cascadia...those 3’ long hoods will cost you thousands in repair cost because it’s so hard to access the engine, you won’t really gain anything from it, and mechanics will hate every second of working on your truck.
11.1 liter wya?

12.7 Detroit since “1998”????
Uhm....
... Nothing really ground shaking here.....
.....I mean-I think it's common with every engine, and I'm a Cummins guy, that the engines get worse after 2004 due to emissions requirements and regulations.
I further think it's common that our 20 year old engines no matter who the engine manufacturer is the parts are getting more difficult to find. I can't understand why Detroit would not be similar.
I did like the reasoning and how the engines became unreliable due to the thinning out the metal in the heads-that was revelationary.
How many employees do you have ? I always see you alone
Which was 1995?
I have 2007 Freightliner cascadia day cab with a 14 l Detroit 60 series is not powerful and he likes low RPMs
MANOWAR, thanks for sharing your experience 🔧💪🏼👊🏼
get it tuned
I have a 2007 14 liter...professional egr delete with pipe removal and tune... 2015 or past? Lmao no
I got a 2009 60 series 😔
How do you like it ? I’m thinking about getting a 2009 as well.
Well that's just my luck. We recently acquired a 2005 Freightliner Columbia with a 515HP Series 60 in it. Of course it would have one of the worst 60 series engines made.
How is that truck going so far?
@@alejandrovelez8840 Apparently it's fairly decent. We haven't put any miles on it to speak of just yet, but it's currently sitting at 1.2 million miles on the odometer. I have no service records, though.
Go too a Cat dealer
Truckin, pre-emission Cats are nice as well. Tough to find one in a solid chassis
uou didnt really say anything about the engine
Just delete the egr lol
Yeah you get 15k and cross your fingers
Miss these motors. These new DD 15 etc suck. they are total junk
