  • Come #shopping with me, Ph.D. Antiques Appraiser Dr. Lori, as I uncover an unusual Duncan Phyfe table, Royal Albert ceramics and dispel an old wives' tale about crystal. I left these bargains for you in Orlando, Florida along with a Bavarian China tea set and caned chairs perfect for a #diy project. #Watch me show you the marks not to miss, the not so typical pedestals and feet on a table and the values for items based on what people have paid.

We bought a table like that as newlyweds. The leaves had gone astray, so we made leaves out of plywood and veneer. What the heck, once you put the tablecloth on, nobody sees the leaves. The main thing is to have lots of guests and have an elegant gathering. 47 years later we still have it.

Not even kidding that is exactly like my Grandmother's diningroom table, only used on special occasions. Thanks for the happy memories !

I inherited my Auntie’s Duncan Phyfe dining suite and it is as heavy as lead! The brass feet on her table were not animal paws, but looked more like tassels. I remember that as a small child, I would sneak underneath the table and sit between the pedestals and read. It was a place that I could read a book undisturbed as the adult conversation bored me… probably because I didn’t understand most of the conversation! I have passed this suite onto my daughter as we downsized drastically when we moved to the Arctic and it is continuing to be loved and used by them.

I once found a small Duncan Phyfe side table at the trash bin where I lived. I sold it to a thrift shop. :O)

My mother had a similar dining table. I recall helping her with a Christmas holiday open house and the table was packed full of food. I can do without the table but not my mother. Miss her.

I grew up with a house full of Duncan Phyfe furniture! I’m only now at age 75, appreciating it. Most of it is long gone. 😢 I do have the pink floral Limoges china. Lovely memories of family celebrations at the mahogany table.

My mom had a table like that with 3 leaves, two pedestals from at least the early 1900s, solid mahogany with 8 chairs that had been with the table. We couldn't get anyone to buy it or accept it on consignment. We ended up donating it. A table like that just sold this week at my local auction house for $100.

I have my Mom’s table and six harp back chairs that came with the table but the brass feet on the table legs are just a plain metal cap, maybe this is a less expensive style of Duncan Pfife?
Thank you for letting me know more about my set, I’ve enjoyed watching you for years, you are amazing!! Thanks for doing these videos for us!!

Hi Dr Lori. Watching your videos inspired me to visit my local Salvation Army. Not only did I have an enjoyable time, I found two Norma Rockwell plates. One is called, "This is the room that the light made. The other is, "Santa in the subway". Both with certificate of authenticity, mint condition and in the box which says, Knowles. I also purchased Mikasa plates and beautiful crystal pieces. Thank you so much

I had a table just like the one you gave all the details to. I didn't know all that, or I would have kept it. I bought it for 10.00. Replaced it with a new Ashley 4 peice with chairs. Great video

Hi Dr Lori and community! So excited because I won my 1st online auction for a jewelry grab bag 😊... It's pendents and there is at least 2 Murano millifiori (spelled wrong, I know 😅) pendents! Wouldn't know if it wasn't for you sharing your knowledge Dr. Lori 😊. I actually already had a Murano pendent and didn't know it. I bought it so long ago because it was so pretty. I completely forgot about it until I dug out all my jewelry and came accross it, I squealed when I saw it and knew exactly what it was. 😊... So when I saw similar ones in this grab bag I had to have it. Thanks so much Dr. Lori, can't wait for more videos to binge on!

Yes, that's just like the dining table in my grandmother's house. Not just leaves to extend the table but custom fitted pads were required. A matching sideboard and china cabinet were De rigueur. I purchased a 50s vintage walnut table with 3 leaves, fitted pads, 2 armchairs and 4 side chairs in excellent condition for $150 at a local second hand store, Abbey Anne's. Since I also purchased an Ethan Allen china cabinet same vintage with all the bells and whistles for the same price the store delivered them for free. Jealous?

Hi:) Dr. Lori , I never comment on videos I love old furniture I found a Duncan Phyfe table similar to that one with 6 chairs to match it was in a small church thrift store for 45 dollars . I couldn’t get out of there fast enough with it . There is a pulley on the underside when you pull it the leaf is attached and pulls it up . My grown children were like mom more old furniture haha . I am going to recover the seats and keep it . What I wanted to tell you your video on winter park fl the orange tree antiques I drug my husband over there just because you were there . Never knew it was there . If you’re still in the area there are two nice antiques stores in wildwood fl . Make sure you have lunch at miss Kathy’s down the road . Love all your videos ❤

I'm moving out of a house ive been in for 46 yrs. Ive become great friends with the GoodWill staff making 2-3 trips a week with donations. Yesterday's visit gave me an idea. Maybe they would let you do a show in the donation area!!Two bins were filled with toys from a little girl who had every girlie toy made. The white unicorn with wheels took the cake as did the doll house with furniture!

Hi Dr. Lori - I heard you way that the Royal Albert platter was worth something like $200, but a quick search on Ebay has several large platters listed in the $30-$40 range. What am I missing that would allow this particular platter to sell for $200? Does "retail" just mean not on Ebay but in a store? Love your videos and thank you so much for all the great info!
