🎸💁♀️🎶Dad sat me in a chair to hold a guitar when I was a toddler to play with my parents’ band. As a young girl, my guitar hero was Blackmore. But since the 1st time I heard Michael Schenker, he’s been at the top of the list.💖 What more could anyone ever do?😊
Hello 👋 marla How're you doing, it's been a long journey, and I'm nothing without amazing fans like you who appreciate my musical craftiness, All love to you and yours ❤️
It is very disappointing to not see my favorite guitarist, Micheal Schenker, on most of the “all time greatest guitarist” list. I cannot understand it, but the truth has prevailed because most of those top guitarist have faded into oblivion while Micheal Schenker still rocks on. After 50 years of rock this guy still tears it up. He is still as sharp as ever. Forever Micheal Schenker!
@@mickeyjohn2442 That is true. The Anglo Saxons that control the social order, still want to beat down the Germanic people. So, they will fill the racial quotas in the United States of America, and put Jimmy Hendrix in the top 10. But, he could not come anywhere close to the skills of Michael Schenker.
This was the first time I heard Michael Schenker. It was on Swedish tv and radio in early 84 if I remember right. My favorite guitar player ever since.Amazing performance.
You remember right! I believe it was shown around New Years in ´83. I was away at the time and made sure my parents recorded everything on vhs for me to enjoy when I got back home. And, boy, did I enjoy it. Three hours of hard rock/heavy metal. It was like a godsend in those days. I must have watched that tape a hundred times - at least. Then someone borrowed it and it was lost. Thank god so much can be found on youtube these days. :)
This time of his life Michael was at his best. Very clean and precise playing. He is still amazing but I have never seen him play better then he did at this concert.

I've watched Schenker play with UFO in 1978 and MSG in 83, and he's a monster, as you can see. He's one of the best guitar players. The UFO album Strangers in the Night shows his skills.
Definitely the most talented Schenker on guitar right here and his best look, IMO, with the leather jacket, faded jeans and white shoes. I always felt like his songs were written around his solos, and not the other way around, which is cool. Michael could have certainly stepped in for Randy Rhoads and probably done a great job, but he didn't want to play other people's songs. I get that. My God, the amount of talented guitarists on this bill though....Michael, Matthias Jabs, Jake E. Lee, Glenn Tipton and KK Downing, Dave Murray and Adrian Smith, Phil Collen, Steve Clark, Carlos Cavazo....it's just mind blowing. If George Lynch and EVH had also been there, you would've had guitar royalty of the early 80's.
@@1Phepsi Yes it's Ted. Not easy to see him in short camera flashes but obviously it's not Cozy's distinct drum sound. In my opinion if Powell was great with MSG - as well as anywhere else - Ted did a fantastic job as Cozy's direct successor in the band.
I've seen them on that tour in Würzburg Germany on the third of December 1983. They were opening up for Iron Maiden (Piece of mind Tour). One hell of a concert. I've been standing 3 m away from Michael and hell did he influence my musical life. I've got a Flying V ever since. Different Flying Vs in fact, but this man opened the door to Rock'n'Roll for me. Unrivalled!
That's exactly how it went. Never heard of Schenker before and a total Maiden Fan. I was blown away and remember every vivid detail of that night up to now. Merry christmas btw!
I had a feeling. Great story. I never got to see him in the 80's but I have seen him 5 times since 2004. Heres a good one; I went to see Schenker at some dive club in a town in PA. George Lynch's 'Lynch Mob opened for him. There were 2 Dokken heads that went with our group and beforehand they were in shock that Schenker wasn't the opener. Needless to say our group was in the first couple of rows and by the middle of Schenkers set the Dokken heads looked at me with their jaws dropped and said Oh, thats why!
i was 1983 in Munich when i saw MSG the first time live. MSG was the opener for Iron Maiden! A few days later i bought my first guitar! Michael was amazing! A fewe weeks later a few friends of mine and i started a Heavy Metal Band called SkullFracture.... Was a good time!
It was great following Michael Schenker and Gary Moore at this time. Each was a fan of the other, but they seemed to be in friendly competition to produce the most impressive guitar on record.
I loved being one of the few rockers in my school that new about UFO and MSG in 1977 to 1984. Even though I was a big YES prog rock fan, there was nothing as pure hard rock as ther Michael Schenker tunes. And he's still shredding in 2024
Most underrated guitar player of all time. Think of all the shit grinder guitar players that are considered guitar gods! Everyone talked about Van Halen back on the day but even VH admitted he inspired by Schenker. Listen to Somebody get me a doctor and UFO Get Ready you can clearly hear the influence! Have a great day everyone!
Always remember listening to Tommy Vance's Friday Night rock show and it featured MSG Reading festival 1982. Stunning and for me the best recording of Lost Horizons. Amazing tone and shredding with a purpose and feel.
What a shame this band is so over looked in rock history. With this line up, they could rock with any band in the world. Schenker is unmatched as a soloist, and for some reason I like the albums with Gary Bardon more than any other MSG singers.
Yes, the guy can play..I gave up my efforts about the time I saw this to be more than a hobby guitarist. Good call probably to have a full time job :) Still try though, haha!

Bonnet fired himself. Exposing little Graham on stage is not very helpful for long term employment. But yes, Gary Barden isn't in Graham Bonnet's league as a vocalist.
Ted McKenna had such a groove. Nice guy as well - v friendly to me as a pimply 16 year old MSG fan. RIP Ted x
