    I heard the Mopar cat back and loved it. With some investigation, and after a chat with Borla, I learned that Borla makes the cat back for Mopar, and it is essentially the S-type. However, Borla’s is cheaper, and it INCLUDES the nicer tips, which Mopar doesn’t. Perfect! I have now ordered the S type for my 2019 Laramie, based on reviews, Borla’s vid, and your video, which was extremely well done. Thank you for all the extra effort and time you put into both the install and the sound video. Very helpful. My (future) Borla hat is off to you!

    • @TonyTheTruckGuy
      @TonyTheTruckGuy  4 года назад +2

      Thanks! A lot of people will complain that the video is too long, but when you’re spending $1k+ on exhaust, it’s better to be thorough and be sure of what you want. If you find the s-type a bit too aggressive, you can always add the resonator option.

      Tony The Truck Guy I couldn’t agree more. You literally walked through every google question I tried to type in and get answers to. I like the option of the add on piece but not sure I’ll need it. The limited has a built in noise canceling system. Plus your explanation of drone or lack thereof is perfect. Did you do the install?

    • @TonyTheTruckGuy
      @TonyTheTruckGuy  4 года назад

      Yeah I believe mine has noise cancelling as well. I did install mine. Only real pain was having to cut old exhaust to get it out, but if you let the axle drop more by disconnecting shocks and sway bar, you can probably avoid that. Video is here: ruclips.net/video/1Nz-Le3qr20/видео.html

    • @TonyTheTruckGuy
      @TonyTheTruckGuy  3 года назад

      Yeah pretty much. Only exception is cold starts are pretty loud and sometimes if you’re trying to sneak into your neighborhood without waking everyone up it’s a bit hard to keep “quiet” under 20 mph because the transmission likes to hold 2nd gear and not up shift very soon so it revs a bit high at that speed

      @@rockninkjunkie1 They only had the 1 size when I got mine, but I'm fairly certain it was 5" since that's what all the links are coming up as that I have in the video description. Stock resonator was retained and this kit bolted up to the back of the factory resonator.

      Thanks! So far, I’ve only had 1 person tell me that they with they went with the touring because the s-type was too loud. But in my opinion, it’s only loud at cold start and if you’re 3/4 or more throttle. Cruising or mild acceleration is fine and I don’t even hear the exhaust over my radio going down the road. You can always add the resonator option if you find it to be a bit too aggressive or see if they can swap the s-type muffler with a touring muffler.

    Great video man, thanks for the info! Question:
    I have a 5.7 hemi Durango RT with an X-pipe in place of the suit case resonator and a pair of Super 10's Flowmasters in the back. I have crazy drone at any speed, but worse on the high when I'm cruising at over 80+. Do these mufflers create any drone? I know you might have a Ram so is it possible the sound resonance might be different compared to an SUV and that's why I have drone?

    • @TonyTheTruckGuy
      @TonyTheTruckGuy  4 года назад

      Sorry for the late reply, 300+ comments were "being held for review" for some reason. SUV's and wagons typically have more drone by design. That being said, super 10's are so tiny I would hardly even call them a muffler haha. You would need to add some resonators or replace the super 10's with chambered mufflers to help reduce drone.

      Yeah I think the coating had a hard time adhering to the stainless. But there’s so many variables too. Like I’m not sure if I got a bad batch, or if I got a good batch but where I live the weather is so extreme. Down to -30° in the winter and 100+ in the summer. Lots of road salt in the winter and plenty of mud in the spring through fall. BUT, like I mentioned in that other video. The coating was already peeling on the INSIDE of the tip when I got them in the box. That being said, I have not contacted Borla yet regarding any type of warranty since they still aren’t awful. A lot of coatings don’t have warranty, but it wouldn’t hurt to contact them and ask before choosing and ordering.

      Check out the 7:38 mark of the video. I'm cruising at 70 and you can barely hear the exhaust over the road noise with my radio off. I always have my radio at 10 or higher, so I only hear the exhaust when I'm getting on it. Basically, start-up and accelerating are the only time that it's loud. I know they are different trucks, but my buddy had a 2011 F-150 5.0 with the touring and he wished he got the s-type. He said it was nice for towing since it's quieter and there was no drone, but unless you're going to be towing all the time, I just don't feel like the touring is a big enough difference from stock for the money you're spending. You could always add the Borla resonator option to the s-type if you decide it's a tad too aggressive. The touring is what it is and you're stuck with it.

I just picked up a 2020 ram 1500 and just bought a borla touring cat back and noticed that the passenger side pipe coming from the muffler is rubbing on the passenger side suspension bump stop. Well I actually never noticed how close it was until you said something. Mine is roughly 1/4” away from the bump stop bracket. Have you tried adjusting the muffler and such in the hangers by trying to shove it away from the bump stop? If that doesn’t work I suspect the muffler was welded slightly off because I’m not seeing much adjustment anywhere. I think even mine contacts sometimes because there’s a small rust mark on the bump stop bracket. If you can’t get it adjusted, I would contact Borla or wherever you got the exhaust and see if they can send a replacement.

      I’d still say the only drone you really get is when the truck is in 4 cyl mode and even then I’ve heard much worse. You could always disable 4 cyl if it bothers you too much. On all 8, you can hear the exhaust, but I wouldn’t call it drone. Still very happy with this setup. Only issues so far is I need to do something to re-center the tips as they aren’t centered in the bumper holes now for some reason and the black coating on the tips doesn’t hold up the greatest to mud and salt but otherwise happy.

      Honestly I’ve never had the opportunity to hear the atak in person, so I can’t say. I will say this though - I wouldn’t have wanted mine any louder. It was the perfect balance to me with the s-type. Definitely loud and there when you get on it, but not annoying on long trips or while towing. You can definitely still hear it in the cab, but it’s not obnoxious. I’m not going to say the s type is necessarily “neighbor friendly” on the cold starts either if that’s a factor, but definitely I rely quieter than the atak. It’s really a preference game. I’m the kind of guy that likes a little extra volume with a lot of extra tone. To me, the atak is less tone and more volume which just isn’t my thing.

      @TonyTheTruckGuy  4 года назад

      Yeah I had a 2012 as well with a glass pack where the muffler was and it definitely had more in-cab noise especially in 4 cyl mode like a helicopter landing on the roof. You can still hear the 4 cyl mode on this truck with the Borla, and it is louder than stock of course, but it’s better than the 2012 for sure and you can disable the 4 cyl mode a few different ways if you really wanted to. I don’t even hear my exhaust when I’m cruising down the highway, especially if the radio is on. I only hear it during downshifts or when I’m on it. If it’s a little harsh for you, you could always add the resonator option that they have which should bring it a bit closer to the sound level of their touring series. Around the 8:20 mark where I’m doing 80 mph is the loudest it gets in the cab while cruising and it’s even quieter at 70 or less. They did a pretty good job of insulating the cabs on these new trucks. Best part is that aside from 4 cyl mode, there’s virtually no drone.

      If anything, I probably lost MPG because I want to hear the exhaust more haha. Although in an apples to apples comparison vs stock, it wouldn't surprise me if you yielded a very small gain.

    • @TonyTheTruckGuy
      @TonyTheTruckGuy  4 года назад

      I wouldn’t say so unless you’re in 4 cyl mode, you can hear a little drone there but it’s not unbearable. You could always disable it. 7:30 ish is a good demonstration of cruising speed if you crank it up. You can hear the exhaust, but it’s not drone

      @TonyTheTruckGuy  2 года назад

      Probably nothing noticeable. Just mental horsepower because it's louder lol. Might be like 10hp or so, but not noticeable enough for me to claim it added power. Mostly for the sound and looks. Probably weighs a bit less, too.

  • @BenjaminFloydHomes
    @BenjaminFloydHomes 4 года назад

    I installed mine today. And ( I never thought I would say this but) it's too loud. I must be getting old. It sounds great but I also carry clients in mine. So it looks like I will be installing a resonator.

    • @TonyTheTruckGuy
      @TonyTheTruckGuy  4 года назад

      Yeah I’m not sure how much the resonator will quiet it down so you may end up going with the touring muffler as well down the road. Mine only seems really loud when it’s first started up if the engine is cold and then obviously if I step on the gas hard. Cruising and mild-moderate acceleration isn’t an issue for me, but I also typically have music blaring.

      Only “drone” I get is when it goes into 4 cylinder, but you’re gonna have that with any aftermarket exhaust. Doesn’t bother me since I’m usually playing music anyways.

      Why not? haha. It's only in 2wd until the rear wheels slip, then transfers power to the front. I probably had it in auto 4 since I was flooring it a bunch for the video and didn't want any traction issues, especially in the rain.

      Tony The Truck Guy Yes but I think I’m going to only the mufflers if I get something as loss as a type S/ Super 44. Maybe get tips if that’s possible but I’d leave the resonator alone that seems to make it a bit quieter.

    Cold start is when you start it with no heater below freezing, wtf

    • @TonyTheTruckGuy
      @TonyTheTruckGuy  4 года назад

      No, “cold start” is when you start a vehicle for the first time of the day. Yes, obviously it’s a more aggressive start when it’s -30° out, but it’s kind of hard to achieve that in the middle of summer. Also if you’re referring to a block heater as the “heater”, I’ve literally never used mine.

    • @jajjjamensan
      @jajjjamensan 4 года назад

      @@TonyTheTruckGuy thats why its only possible to do a coldstart in the winter, atleast by the european meaning of coldstart. When its harmful for the engine, if you use heater its not a coldstart.
      At what temp do you concider it not to be a coldstart or is it always a coldstart when its the 1st time of the day?

    • @TonyTheTruckGuy
      @TonyTheTruckGuy  4 года назад

      Well yeah like I said the colder it is the better of a “cold start” it will be. But if a guy lives in Texas and it only gets down to 50° in the winter, that’s as cold of a start as they get lol. Even at say 80°, it will start differently than if you ran it up to temp, then shut it down and start it right up again. When I said “cold start” in this video, I meant it was the first start of the day, so it’s most aggressive.
