I convinced my mom to go to the theatre with me to see this. She had a strong resistance to seeing a matinee, but she was a fan of Connery and Sam Neil. For the next 20 years, she would quote Sam Neil’s final line: I would have liked to see Montana.
One of my all-time favorite movies! I can still quote it at will.
The Captain of the USS Dallas is played by Scott Glenn...who was also in The Right Stuff, Silverado, Backdraft, and The Bourne Ultimatum.
I love how Sam's last words are "I would love to have seen Montana" and his character's first appears in Jurassic Park in Montana
He is afraid of flying because he was in a crash while serving as a Marine. The books are amazing!
This movie is so well written and so well edited. I must have watched it twenty times.
Oh boy...this is interesting timing for a movie about submarines...considering the big breaking news of today about the Titan submersible.💯
Call me silly, but my favorite scene was when Ryan was shocking the room with his “Ramius is defecting” theory. 😊
I've seen this movie a thousand times, Great Movie, Great Tom Clancy Book!
Here's an interesting fact. On the Dallas, when Jonesy plays the recorder for the captain, he mentions Russians subs running the Reykjanes Ridge at high speeds cause they had hyper-accurate surveys of the underwater canyons..Capt. Mancuso says "Yeah, yeah! Red Route One." Well, that information was classified at the time. The Russians didnt know we were onto them and had been watching them at Red Route One for some time. When Tom Clancey put that in the movie, he blew our cover and revealed the classified information to the Russians on accident
Stellan Skarsgård plays the arrogant Captain Tupolev.
Ramius
You guys didn't know the mystery, but it was great watching how you figured it out.
When Ramius told the crew their orders he said they would conduct "missile drills" not actually fire missiles at America.
The actor playing the Soviet Ambassador was Joss Ackland, who played the South African diplomat villain in "Lethal Weapon 2"
I've seen this move many many times since it was new and enjoy it every time. I think Alec Baldwin was the best Jack Ryan.
Some of my favorite Sub movies are this one, Crimson Tide, The Enemy Below, Das Boot, and U-571.
YES! One of my favorite movies. Good one to react to!
In an interview with Scott Glenn, he talks about how he trained for being a attack boat skipper by spending a weekend on an actual Los Angeles class submarine. The captain ordered his crew to take Glenn's orders, and had Glenn repeat his orders so he could practice giving orders to a real crew. Glenn says his Bart Mancuso is him doing this submarine captain.
I am so happy you are reacting to this movie.😄 I highly recommend Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger, both based on Tom Clancy books.
